RIP John Amos. The absolutely perfect Admiral Fitzwallace. One hell of an actor.
And a fine human being, by all accounts (which in itself is pretty impressive these days too) 😢❤😢❤
At 6:05: "It's an honor to meet you, Admiral." And the priceless response: "I imagine it would be, yes." Classic! RIP Admiral.
“I’m an admiral in the US Navy and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Beat _that_ with a stick.”
-Admiral Percy Fitzwallace
RIP John Amos
Thanks for putting this tribute together, team!
Rest in peace, beloved John Amos. 🫡❤️
RIP Mr. Amos. Fitzwallace was a real one.
Fitz owned the screen whenever he was in a scene. RIP to a great actor, John Amos.
My favorite Fitzwallace scene is at 14:34, when he and Leo start out talking about shampoo and he goes into his speech about how he can't tell when it's peacetime or wartime. Brilliant writing by Sorkin, but excellent acting as well.
Nice speech but factually inaccurate.
When the British archers were captured at Agincourt, the French cut off their thumbs so they could no longer draw their bows.
@@dechala70 Um... It's fiction. There was never a President Bartlett nor a country called Qumar. Doesn't make it any less powerful.
@@markshaw7253 I didn't know you needed thumbs to draw a bow.
@@theresesolimeno4651 he was talking about an historical event that actually happened.
Thank you for putting this together. RIP John Amos - a real class act.
Fitz was absolutely one of my favourite characters and I loved the episodes he was prominently featured. John Amos was a treasure.
He dominated every scene he was in. Brilliant writing of course, but wow John Amos was a absolute Boss. "Beat that with a stick", "The laws of nature don't even apply here". FARK
Of all the roles I saw John Amos play over the years, Admiral Percy Fitzwallace is my favorite, by far.
It was John's favorite as well.
The role he was born to play.
@@jamesrawlins735 So happy to hear that.
The cadence - his speech-perfection..
Mr. Amos was a fabulous actor. Thank you for sharing your talents with us, Dear Sir. Rest Easy.
17:05 "He can't cancel the trip Leo. You've got to tell him he can't cancel it."
One of my favorite lines in the show.
When Sorkin wants a line to hit hard, "You've got to..." is one of the ways he does it.
RIP John Amos, legendary actor, incredible performance on The West Wing. I was so sad when they wrote him out.
Admiral Percy Fitzwallace: Have you changed shampoo? You have, I can tell. 'Cause your hair seems bouncy and more manageable.
Leo McGarry: I like to look good for you.
This guy had such range! He could do drama and he was funny as Hell. You are watching a true actor.
"Is this gonna get ridiculous?"
"Absolutely."
Thank you John Amos. Your work was loved by many.
This is perfect. RIP.
I live in The Netherlands and have been a huge admirer of TWW from the beginning. I have the complete DVD set and watched it time and again. In my humble view, it shows us how a great nation and the most powerful military in the world should be run. With extremely smart, good, honest and hardworking people. Percy Fitzwallace of course being one of them. Who knows, maybe one day...
Man, Mr. Amos is so good. Every scene he was in is spectacular. RIP
I love that first couple of scenes. When Bartlett gave the reasoning of a disproportionate response I was completely on board with him. Then Fitzgerald gave him the disproportionate response and explanation of why they shouldn't do it I thought, well there is that.... Perfectly written.
too bad that in real life there were no military men like that when Bush the idiot plunged us into a criminal war because his daddy was dissed.
Rest in Peace, and thank you for all of your great works!
I mourned Fitz, I will mourn Mr Amos - they both made me feel better, more hopeful about this beaten up old world...😢
Name one TV series that came after The West Wing and equalled its quality. What an amazing parade of first class actors.
John Amos….ABSOLUTE GOAT on the West Wing. May you Rest In Peace Admiral Fitzwallace.
Admiral Fitzwallace is one of those, "Guest character that feels like a main character." Same with Danny Concannon. Considering how much they both stick out in my memory of the show, it's weird to think that both got maybe a few minutes in a few episodes per season.
21:51 just classic. "You guys getting strippers or something?"
RIP Mr. Amos!
This was my favorite role Mr. Amos played. His recent death stands out in my mind as a heavy loss. He was on my short list of actors I truly enjoyed and respected.
Not to mention losing James Earl Jones around the same time.
John Amos was not on my radar until I saw him on TWW. His first appearance, I thought, isn't that the guy from Good Times (which I didn't really watch)? He's good. How come we don't see more of him?
With his passing, I read more about John Amos. He apparently clashed with the Good Times writers about the characters saying essentially that's not how black people think and act. All the writers were white. He got canned for it. So kudos to him for that in trying to put out a better product.
Loved you with JJ...loved you with Akeem...and especially loved you with The West Wing.
Thanks for the memories. You are sorely missed, Sir.
RIP John Amos
Loved Fitz! ❤
John Amos was perfect for the role of Admiral Fitzwallace.❤ May he Rest in Peace.
Thank you for sharing a great actor and a very very wonderful gentleman. Condolences to this gentleman and blessings to his family!❤
Sat next to John Amos on an airplane for 5 hours. Let's just say he got the armrest! Nice guy he was.
I love this show and have watched the entire series a few times. John Amos was my absolute favorite guest actor, and one of the best that has ever lived.
RIP John Amos. Such an incredible actor❤🙏
The eagle carpet in the oval office is REVERSABLE.
At 15:00 Fitzwallace delivers a powerful scene... The Laws of Nature don't Apply!
John Amos, by his character's stolid demeanor, terse comments, subtle humor, and eloquent silences, was able to affirm who and what he was far better than many of the other actors in WW's fine ensemble cast. That's a mission accomplished.
TAKE YOUR REST SIR
Johm Amos RIP. The best admiral ever on The West Wing.
Astonishing actor RIP John Amos.
Rest in quiet peace John. I loved and respected your wonderful acting in the West Wing. Thank You.
I had the honor of meeting John Amos over a decade ago when he had his one man show “Halley’s comet.” He was such a nice man and was willing to spend a moment talking to a fan. I have a picture with him. RIP legend.
Thank you.😌🎉
such a Legend!!!!!!
RIP...I wish they would have added the scene where he tells Leo he's got honest to God real battles to fight...
That scene where he pops in the meeting with Sam and the guy says "ohmigod" and they stand tall when the admiral walks in...
Yeah I'd have the same reaction, too. He wouldn't even need the uniform, and it's been over 30 years since the military...
YES, YES, YES, goddammit I'll buy more seasons to watch. Awesome acting all around.
Fitz and Nancy McNally were brilliant in every scene they were both in. Really a highlight of the show. John Amos was also trailblazing in "Good Times." RIP John.
Admiral Fitzwallace was my favorite recurring character! RIP John Amos.
RIP John Amos! Legendary actor and Admiral Fitzwallace was one of the best recurring characters ever written.
RIP John Amos. Great actor! You will be missed. 😢
Man, John Amos was such an underrated actor. He was absolutely brilliant in this role. He'll be missed.
The 1st scene was bartlett first time in the sit room and the consensus was that jed has not served anywhere so he would not be able to handle/ decide on military issues but boy oh boy did jed show that he can go toe to toe , round to round with fitz! This scene sets the tone for the remainder of their relationship! Jed always had respect for fitz but he felt fitz did not respect him back but all of that was put to one swift end in one scene at the beginning of season 1 :)
It's not good to piss off the most powerful man on the planet, especially if he had skin in the game. I loved this show because passion was as real as an actor can make it. Martin Sheen and John Amos are two of the best.
One of my favorite characters on TWW, and brilliantly portrayed by Mr. Amos.
RIP, Fitz.
I loved John Amos in this role. He was perfect for it. Rest in Peace Mr Amos. What an actor.
My favorite character on the series. So good.
Ahhh now here's what I was waiting for! Good job, channel!
God we miss them soooo much 😢 💔.. Thank you for 😂the wonderful works 💪...
Perfectly casted for the role! RIP John Amos.
We have watch for a year what the non-proportional response would look like as the Israelis take on the Arab world after the October 7 attacks.
Of the many great performances on West Wing, John Amos always delivered such a strong, moral character in a show that dealt with often less moral out comes. From what I understand, that moral fiber existed in his off screen personal life also. Rest in Peace Mr. Amos.
Funny enough that’s a good point, though I’d argue they don’t have the luxury of dealing in proportionality given their geopolitical reality. But an interesting point and connection to the scene nonetheless. Ah John Amos…what a loss…
Amazing that he was only in 22 episodes. He loomed so large he felt like a series regular.
The *GREATEST* show in the _History_ of television.
“Alright, you guys getting strippers or something” cracks me up everytime.
Colorado State University grad, met him a couple times. Nice guy.
So relevant this very date😊[
I miss both these men so, SO much.
I've watched TWW about 10 times and I can't believe I never copped that was John Amos!!!
John Amos was as honourable as the admiral he portrayed. RIP
One of my favorite subtle bits. The President smokes. Not a lot. Maybe 2 a day. But, anyone who is in his orbit carries a pack and a lighter with them at all times. Just in case. My favorite one was the Secret Service agent who has never smoked in his life, still carries a pack of the President's brand. On the off chance he asks for one.
And yes. John Amos was the perfect person for this role. RIP King.
I loved his character on two and a half men. I mean to be so totally secure in his sexuality and masculinity to do that role at that point in his life ... Incredible. Same goes to his partner in that role. Keach
This Admiral was Admirable. RIP John Amos.
Nice!!! I, for one, would have liked to see the clip where Nancy McNally calls him Admiral Sissy-Mary.
John Amos had gravitas on tv even when not playing an admiral. Great actor all the way back to Good Times.
I thought this was one of John Amos' best roles. He was excellent for the part. RIP
RIP King
RIP one hell of an actor. He could do either drama or comedy, well.
“Mr. President, are you suggesting we carpet-bomb Damascus?”
By god… we could. This unrest in the middle-east must stop. I’m American, but I also lived in the UK growing up. I’m 38 now and my friends live in the UAE, I visited them in Dubai in 2020 at the height of the pandemic. This MUST stop, you cannot shoot missiles at someone to solve a disagreement. I’m sorry if I sound harsh or not-understanding of the local geopolitics for not living in the region, or being a naïve American who only visited on holiday. I spoke to my taxi driver, Pratik, in Dubai, he told me how he sends money home to his family, in Pakistan, and hoped to visit them that winter. I hope he was able, before all this shit-show started.
Best show on TV!
6:02 David Wallace vs Admiral Fitzwallace! 🤣
That’s a kind of a man I could follow into HELL and I am talking about the Admiral
Nobody going to mention how he picked up a danish, moved it around in both hands.. and then put it back on the plate.
Admiral Fitzwallace and Admiral Greer close to a month apart (James Earl Jones).
R.I.P. Great actor!
Amazing actor all around, we lost a giant.
I never agreed with the politics, but I love this show to this day. So smart.
Thats the way it should be. Both parties wanting the best for America but debate the policies that we disagree on.
The light glints on his glasses....2.38.
Amos was excellent in this role. Great character.
He was the best.
RIP, Admiral.
Great actor RIP John Amos
A really impactful actor. I can’t imagine many others who would have done better. Vale John Amos.
Always bugged me how he didnt finish his danish
RIP Admiral.
One little nitpick ... William Pitt was born 300 years after Agincourt.
God he was good in this.
RIP Fitz
