Yes, the archaic English is more precise with "thee" and "thou". How is it that English ended up eliminating distinction between singular and plural forms of the second person? This still causes problems to this very day with different speakers using words like "y'all", "you guys" and "all of you" to distinguish the plural second person. I understand that languages evolve but losing such form and function is seriously a de-evolution.

The original 1966 RSV Catholic Edition didn't make any changes to the Old Testament. The Second Catholic Edition, by contrast, did make changes: it eliminated the remaining instances of Jacobean English and adjusted a few theologically suspect passages (most notably, Isaiah 7.14, which now reads "virgin"). Basically, it's like a middle ground between the original RSV and the ESV. I got a copy of it as a gift. It is very impressive. I am not a Roman Catholic, and the RSV is not my preferred translation, but this is worth reading through for comparison, and the notes.
Father bless, you might already know this, but the 2nd Catholic Edition fixed a few of the things that I found most annoying about the original RSV, like fixing the "young woman" passage in isaiah, leaving the long ending of Mark (though there is still a footnote) and consistently using "you" in the OT to match the NT. I still personally prefer the NKJV but I think it's better than the original RSV or NRSV imo.
@@BenjaminButler. The content of the OSB is Orthodox, of course, but the St. Ignatius Bible does set the bar higher, in terms of what a Study Bible ought to do. So for Orthodox people, I would still recommend the OSB, but future revisions of the OSB ought to try to cover similar ground as well.
I ordered this one and have the earlier Entire NT. There is a problem with this study bible. There are so many notes that you are constantly skipping back and forth. I suggest reading one to both pages, then going back and reading the notes for what you just read. 4:00 shows that there is half to more notes than scripture, which is a good thing but can easily confuse jumping back and forth. They also have maps where useful, not just at the back and small essays on topic where it appears in the Bible. 7:19 I believe that information is inside this Bible. In the very front somewhere. I believe there is much more in the back than what was mentioned. Forgot to add the notes are not in microman size. where you can just make out the text but need a microscope for the notes. it is the same size. Some Bibles have their notes so small they are unreadable
@dave_eclectic I understood you just fine, Dave. Thanks for the additional details. This truly is a treasure chest of a study Bible! Good tips on how to read it with minimal flipping (as a Liturgy of the Hours devotee, flipping is SOP but never enjoyable). I have a Dake's study Bible and at almost 60 am at the age where the microscopic font on the notes is proving a challenge, so glad such is not the case with the ICSB.
My old eyes love the 10.4-point font of the already published Ignatius NEW Testament Study Bible. I want to see an Ignatius OLD Testament Study Bible in 10.4 font someday! This new 2024 edition of both testaments has a 9-point font which will be fine for most people, but a tad too small to be comfortable reading for me. I have the Ignatius New Testament in 10.4, and I will continue to collect the larger-font single Old Testament Ignatius editions (Genesis, Exodus, ...) in the meantime.
@@DiscipleDojothe Dueterocanon has been in the Bible since it was compiled. By what authority do you remove it. Martin Luther’s? John Calvin’s? Your own?
Excellent overview! I just tabbed over to Amazon and sprung for the bonded leather edition. I can already tell from your flip-through this will be a keeper and oft-used. It's still on pre-order, so I'm hoping for a Christmas miracle so I can make it my 2025 Bible. I'll be eager to see what notes they have for Genesis 3:15, which the traditional Douay-Rheims translates as "she shall crush thy head" and which the RSVCE bowdlerized to "he shall bruise your head." A huge difference! This is a linchpin verse in Mariology. PS: Just picked up Fr. James Mawdsley's book "Crushing Satan's Head" drawing on this potent passage.
Very glad to see this. I hadn't seen a review with the hardcover yet. Looking at the size, I was leaning more toward the hardcover since it didn't look like the type of Bible to be carrying around. Now that I see it in hardcover, I will definitely be getting it.
As a Catholic here in the Philippines, I would love to have a copy of the St. Ignatius Catholic Bible, but unfortunately, it’s beyond my budget since it’s priced in dollars, which makes it very expensive for us. If any kindhearted follower here is willing to sponsor a Catholic Study Bible, I would be deeply grateful. It would mean so much to have access to this valuable resource to deepen my faith and understanding of the Scriptures.
Come home to the true church the universal church founded by Jesus Christ and handed down through apostolic succession from Jesus to Peter and so on. Come home to the fullness of faith. And break from the heretic Martin Luther who protested the true church and splintered her into 60,000 different denominations that we have today which has watered down what Christ truly wanted and taught and who all believe different things and do not agree with each other. Sola scriptura is not right it’s scripture written and oral teachings which the Catholic Church follows. Do your research dig deep study the first church fathers and come home. I was Protestant, I am currently in RCIA and will be confirmed at the Easter vigil. Most sacred heart of Jesus have mercy on us immaculate heart of Mary pray for us! 🙏 God bless.

I look forward to knowing how this compares with the Didache Study Bible. There are notes that put me off getting the Didache as even just wanting to know something about what the Catholics believe, I don't want notes that cast doubt about the Bible itself and believe there a few of that type in the Didache. From what I have heard, I will like the translation of the RSV2CE
@user-zo2ge3oe8d Book Introductions like Genesis JDP Hypothesis, Isaiah and Daniel. I am going by a review in which some of the text is read by Grant Jones.
No such notes on the Didache bible. The Didache bible has notes connecting scripture to Catholic doctrine found in the Catechism. The Bible with the horrendous notes that virtually all Catholics cringe at is the NABRE. Nothing wrong with the translation itself, but the notes border and sometimes ride on the skeptic line. The New Catholic Bible is a better translation than the NABRE and with more theologically orthodox notes.

@@r.a.panimefan2109 we can’t win more converts by using scripture alone because (drum roll please) we don’t believe in scripture alone! It’s true! And not only do Catholics not follow the Bible alone, but no where in the Bible itself does it say to follow the Bible alone. In fact nowhere in the Bible itself does it tell us how many books are even supposed to be in it! Wouldn’t Jesus have told us that if we were meant to follow the Bible only? Actually, how *can* we follow the Bible alone when the Bible doesn’t even tell us what it is? How do you know what books should and should not be in the Bible when the Bible doesn’t tell you? It’s almost like, dare I say it? Jesus didn’t leave us a Bible, because He left us a *Church* . And then, after many years the *Church* decided what books belonged in the Bible! That’s what actually happened! After all Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would be with His *Church* and He prayed for all members of His church to be One! And the Catholic Church is still one, even all these thousands of years later! The Protestants and Orthodox slowly split into more and more schism, while we Catholics have remained one!
Not only good for your brain and soul, it works your biceps ( I just got mine)
We need this one with Larger Fonts!
Try another edit; I have no idea what you are trying to say.
Looking forward to this. The New Testament was my most cherished study Bible. Will be getting this OT and NT one.
I'm excited to see what you make of it.
Mine is already on preorder. Hopefully, it will be delivered on Christmas Day!
4:29 - *Deuterocanonical
@@davethesid8960 not to me. ;-)
@DiscipleDojo I'm really not trying to be mean here, but this is where having no authority leads: everyone is there own pope.
So excited!
Many thanks. That will take you a while to read the study notes.
I am looking forward to the review😊
As a Catholic here in the Philippines, I would love to have a copy of the St. Ignatius Catholic Bible, but unfortunately, it’s beyond my budget since it’s priced in dollars, which makes it very expensive for us. If any kindhearted follower here is willing to sponsor a Catholic Study Bible, I would be deeply grateful. It would mean so much to have access to this valuable resource to deepen my faith and understanding of the Scriptures.
That looks like an EPIC treasure
Thank you from Perú, may Jesus bless you more.
I ordered this months ago , waiting for mine to arrive
Mine came last week after ordering it in like April or so, not too long after the opened up pre-orders. It’s a scary huge Bible but I know it’s going to be well worth the time and effort to get to know it! Enjoy yours when it finally comes!
Same, Iordered in September. I just checked my email and it shipped out 12/4 and it should be here Monday.
It's an excellent conservative Catholic study Bible. The Bible books with notations came out individually over 10 years ago.
Love your shirt
Can't wait to get mine! Any day now! It's like Christmas!... oh wait..... =D
Hey. I’ve been using the Didache Study Bible for many years. What are some of the notes that cast doubt on the Bible?
Looks good, thank you for
It looks like you helped me decide on my next Bible. I love my old NAB, but it is a standard binle, not a study edition.
Excellent overview of this long-awaited study bible! But, your Bible reviews are always well done, so it was not a surprise.
I am looking forward to your full review of the complete Ignatius Study Bible. Even if I own a copy by then, your comments and observations are always worthwhile.
The RSV CE2 is an updated version of the RSV where they made corrections (e.g. Isaiah 7:14, etc.) It’s almost identical to the ESV.
The RJPS makes a cameo appearance at 2:47. Looking forward to your review of that!
Awsome shirt! 😅
Is this the one Scott Hahn produced?
Yes.
Nice survey of the ICSB.
Thank you
Yes the real Jedi master training!
Took 'em 26 years. :-D
Wow Is it available in Spanish???
🙏
I am waiting the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible to compare.
That's a brick. I can't wait for mine to come in
Can you please look into whether there is a difference between the New Testament in this version versus the New Testament in the original version
@@Ben-kh7wh no. I do not have the original version.
Bro does this study bibel ever get translated to german? I need that
Can you do the ostrog Slavonic bible or Duoay Rheims?
@@LazarúnZalonír no, those are translations, not study Bibles.
@DiscipleDojo but could you do them?
@@DiscipleDojo There is a Haydock Douay Rheims that is packed with study notes and quotations from the Church Fathers. It dates to the 1800s, I believe, and I consider it a predecessor to today's study Bibles. It's expensive and a little difficult to get, but would be worth a look if one ever crossed your path.

Who is God in Islam?, God (Allah) is One, eternal, and unlike anything. He is the Creator, merciful and beyond human limitations. Surah Al-Ikhlas, This short Quran chapter declares: God is One., He has no equal., He wasn’t born, nor has children. A simple, powerful message of pure monotheism!

Catholism worries me with the continuous unbiblical views
Nothing unbiblical about the church created by Jesus Christ himself, and continued through apostolic succession.
Matthew 16:18-19 "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore, go forth and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have ever commanded you."
God bless.
@TheFreshestPrince jesus didn't start the institution u call the catholic church.
The church is the body of the believers.
That is seriously the only arguments u have.
Why is it with these discussions u
Never apeal to the scriptures other than your rock verse.
And a few other out of context ones.
It's always this church father or that church father or well the catechism says such and such.
Can u for once actually look at in good faith of the argument see that the bible disagrees with
Xyor z tradition.
Haven't u noticed that protestants are consistent when looking at the latristics and saying they r not infallible.
There little better than reading c.s. lewis. That's all they r. Men with opinions
He didn't
Vhrist says repeatedly that man's traditions choke the word.
But u say that becuase of one verse saying christ did more things not written down we toss the near 100 instances saying not to add.
Can't u just meat the argument
U would win more protestants if u argue from scripture within context
I encourage all my Protestant brothers and sisters to read church history and realize that “the Bible alone” does not work. Best of luck friend, I’m praying for you ✝️🙏🏻
@@jaycefields756 I thoroughly don’t believe in Sola Scriptura but for most Protestants it’s the heart of their beliefs, which is misguided, but using it can be a good path to truly understanding the one holy Catholic Church and why it’s important for every Christian to be unified in it, why the traditions established by the apostles and the church fathers outside of the Bible are just as relevant, I say this as a recent Protestant to Catholic convert myself.
@@r.a.panimefan2109what does the Bible say is the pillar and bulwark of truth? The scriptures, or the church?
