- The Italian P.108A Serie 2 is an Italian Bomber that's been converted to house a 102mm anti-ship cannon! Today, I tried to use it to kill tanks!
The P108A is a fun meme but it's very unwieldy to fly and is a HUGE target for planes, anti-air and even tanks fire their main guns at you.
The P.108A is equipped with a 102mm cannon that's hand loaded by the crew inside the bomber. The projectile is mostly solid shot with very little HE filler. It regularly will completely over penetrate even medium tanks causing some frustrating moments.
Although the plane its self can tank a few shots, it's very easy to set on fire and you'll constantly be regretting your decisions every time you bring it out!

The 102mm is so much overkill, we need the serie 1 with the 90mm.
Fun Italian plane fact: the 102mm cannon was specially developed for this plane, it is based on the 90mm (same gun as the breda) they bored out the 90mm to the max and they got to 102mm. They to my knowledge didn't use the gun in any other way, Italy performed a lot of tests with the plane and shot a lot of shots but in the end they weren't able to use it in combat as they flipped sides at that time and there wasn't a need anymore.
The IAR-81C is legit my favorite plane in the game, it's just so much fun to play

Hey OddBawz. I just wanted to say thank you for your videos, especially your commentary on what you are doing. I learned a bunch of little things like changing volume settings, how enemy players are likely to react, etc. that might seem obvious to you skilled players but I never thought of. I am actually getting 5 plus kills on occasion now. I even got my first ever double ace in the chaffee today. I used to feel lucky if I got 2 kills.... even my total RB K/D used to hover around 1. Please keep doing what you do, and thank you again

Keyboard controls are absolutely essential to get out of a compression dive or reengaging quickly. I really should bring this out in tank rb because ive been using it in air rb almost exclusively.

If you have the vertical targeting setting enabled, that may be the reason you have to aim so far down in gun based ground attackers, since the setting automatically compensates for bullet drop when enabled.

Having had this plane in my Italian tree for months now for this same reason (unsuccessfully), I am filled with a ridiculous amount of excitement for this video.

Been enjoying the format lately, keep it up OddBawZ! Have you tried swapping to the pilot gunsight or virtual cockpit to do gun cas? I've been doing it more often and found that the sights are so much better without the misalignment of third person, might help with these yeeter planes.

Just a Tip for this plane:
Don't go so fast as in this video when you are shooting. Try it on a speed at 250km/h:
More time to aim and shoot and you can use the flaps better ( very nice to get better manoeuvres)
And sometimes it's better to use the cockpit view ....

The p108a turrets are amazing
5:08 The Chaffee is a good tank, but it’s so small and compact, so if you get hit in the right place your pretty much toast for other players
It helps to change gun convergence to 800m gives you a chance to hit targets at longer distances and centers the shot more towards the crosshair
"Gun Convergence" only applies to wing-mounted guns. It's the point where the left-mounted and right-mounted fields of fire converge ahead of the plane. Nose-mounted weapons always fire directly ahead. ;)

I love to imagine something like a B-29 equipped with America's 240mm Howlitzer. What a plane that would be in Warthunder.
Oh, flying this thing is a simple matter, you just have to slap yourself every time you even think about nosing down to re-engage more than twice in one pass.
Tfw your plane shoots bigger rounds than your tank
On paper, the P.108 Serie 2 is a beast. In practice, even a test flight is frustrating. For an anti-ship gun, the thing can't even pen a cargo ship. The repair cost is negligible, at least (640 to 1000 SL, if I remember correctly). If you get one kill, you're sure to get a profit.
You can get the hang of it in cockpit view, I spaded it in Sim, believe it or not lol. With a flightstick. Though Ground RB CAS seems like you would need to rethink everything.
They are lowering this and many of the cannon aircraft, so it will be 2.0 come next patch. Which is amazing, that 3.3 I think it started at was ridiculous.

My record in the p108a, never to be achieved again, was 3 kills in a game of ground RB.
That thing looks like an absolute mutt to fly! The M3A3 is fantastic though
You have to be careful when lowering alt, cause the gun’s weight can drag you into the ground. It would do better in Naval if it didn’t have patrol boats and flak barges to deal with. Honestly, set it to max dispersion range of 800 meters and keep speed up if possible. And if you fly over someone, swap to gunners and fire rear lower turret at the target.

I am an Italian player myself and I have had some fun bringing this plane out into Air RB and knocking out planes which don't know of the 105 in the nose. But it's not very useful in Air RB to be truthful! I love your videos by the way!
Every once in a while you get the odd player that will try to head to head with you because you're in a bomber and you get to make them sorely regret that decision and it's fantastic.

For whatever reason, I have no issues with that gun. I find it quite easy to aim in cockpit, and I love overpressuring pumas. It also has nice gunship properties. And it’s pretty fast for it’s br

I use this thing, not for the kills, but for the joy of blasting 2.7 tanks with a 201mm cannon

Try using the gun sight when aiming planes with guns like the P108, it cancells out the Mandella effect, and you can aim a little bit more accurately.
This also works for something like the Duck, and Ki109

Ground target is better than armored at the br its at. You get alot of assist kills

To be fair I don't understand why Breda MGs do so low damage in game, compared to a US Browning M2 .50 Cal which has a cyclic rate of fire of about 500 Rounds per minute and a muzzle velocity of 863m/s the 12.7mm italian MGs have a RoF of 700 rounds per minute and a muzzle velocity of 765m/s (574 rounds per minute if shot through propellers), they should punch harder than they do

This is, hands down... by far and away, my favorite plane in WT. The P108Aserie2 is my baby. I love big guns, and she brings the biggest with the MOST ammo!!!
I've snagged six kills in one pass before. I've snagged a 3Km+ shot in ground sim against a moving KV2. I've snagged several air-to-air kills... there is nothing this thing can't do.
Especially with the newer ship models on some EC maps, I can plug holes in ships from stand-off distances and sink an entire convoy unless a fighter finds me .
The bit about fighters focusing you even if they have a bunch of fighters on them... that is too true and now I am crying.

Very good little tank, only problem is that it very long and an easy target from the sides
But good mobility, solid APHE, surprisingly good armor

Starting to play again a year later, is there a way to fix the reticle hanging so low from where your "cursor" is? It's really just uncomfortable and a pain in the ass.
Does your audio driver have a loudness equalization option? That, or fiddle with the bass, treble, and midrange levels until the game stops hurting your ears.

Correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve only used a plane that has cannons, once. But. Isn’t it easier to aim in the cockpit view? You have the sight and stuff. I think you can try that and see if it works for you.

I suspect the flight model is slightly busted for one. Big aircraft in general are really silly heavy, (617 on a couple of occasions dive bombed in a Lancaster, try that in war thunder), i also would bet that in real life using the cannon involved a specific dive starting altitude and a specific throttle setting, might even have done it slow enough to come down with flaps deployed.
How about me410a-1? This is some underrated CAS plane.
Of course artillery is loud! 100mm+ shells landing within 50 meters of you will cause permanent hearing loss. And it gets worse when you're inside of a tank because the sound reverberates.

I would love to see what you can do with the american/Japanese phantoms as CAS... they seem to have absolutely ridiculous bombloads for a fighter.... also the phantom 2 and japanese phantoms can take an additional 3 gunpods with vulcans... I feel like 4x6000RPM could make for somewhat interesting moments!
