    Very good video! My Fall Season starts here in NY on October 20th and October 27th in NJ. I started in 1989 in the Fall mostly with just Pheasant dogs. Keep the videos coming Matt!

    Your videos are always helpful! I've been stumped and frustrated trying to find turkeys this fall because in spring they were darn near anywhere. I thought I was going crazy...but what you said makes sense. Now the rain just needs to let up...

    As an avid Arkansas turkey hunter for 32 years this video is a little depressing. Don't get me wrong Matt it is an excellent fall tactic instructional clip! I remember in the 80's hunting in the beautiful fall woods sittin next to my grandpa as he yelped on a Lynch box call with his old Victor single 12 across my knee. Sadly fall turkey hunting in Arkansas is a thing of the past. My son will never get that experience here. In 2009 the GFC voted to close fall hunting indefinitely and for good reason. We have had a steady 14 year decline in turkey harvest. From a high of 20,000 plus birds in 2003 to a low of 7,885 in 2018 for a 16 day spring season. Down from 10,000 plus in 2017. Arkansas isn't the only state there are many seeing the same trend. Unless habitat is restored and predator hunting/trapping resume I fear spring hunting is doomed as well. Good luck to all you guys/gals that have a fall season you are blessed. Take a kid with you so they can enjoy it while there's still time.

      Come up to Missouri for some fall turkey. I'll be happy to share some southern Missouri public land scouting information.

      @@beararms3703 Thanks Joshua! I was lucky enough to to hunt Missouri with a buddy the spring of '92. We traveled to the town of Eminence. We both tagged out it was an awesome experience! The wife and I have been talking about a family hunt back to Missouri someday. God Bless

      The trapping part of this statement is key. SInce I started trapping my huting ground every year for coyotes and other predators the turkey population has been on a steady rise. Good enough that ol Matt here came down and shot the biggest gobbler in Oklahoma lol.

      I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but briar patches really helped the turkeys of Wisconsin. Not only this but by planting tall grassy areas, the birds are thriving. Although, the male birds are adapting to hunting pretty rapidly and don't call or respond to calls like they used to. I've had far better luck stalking, with or without a decoy. This fall I am going to try to nab one with my bow.

    Hey Matt thank you for your review. I would just like to know if you suggest hunting with decoys or not during fall? And if the answer is yes what would you pick? A jake? An open fan gobbler? hens?

    Do gobblers strut in the fall as well? To assert dominance in the flock? Would it be useful to put out full strut tom decoys?

    For me personally I don’t get the excitement from fall that I do for spring. This time a year I am all about archery season but I still like to go out for fall. For me it’s just killing a turkey for meat. I can use a rifle for fall turkey in my state so my tactic is pretty much run and gun and shoot the first bird I see.

    I love the fall season. I usually hunt squirrel and run into turkey every year and my 22 mag does the trick. Come spring time turkeys are ghosts. This year all month only heard 4 gobblers. 3 on opening day and one answered me but ran out of hunt time

    • @mustafam956
      @mustafam956 4 роки тому

      Do you need to hunt on farms or can public undeveloped land work too in your opinion?

    • @mikecase9365
      @mikecase9365 4 роки тому

      @@mustafam956 in my opinion it only matters two things. One are you legally allowed to be there and shoot? And two are there turkeys? Generally around here I run into turkeys all year except during spring. In fall it's easier for me because usually it's about food and with a light dusting tracks become very evident. They seem to really like acorns so when I'm squirrel hunting I cross paths. In my state the fall is either or and no restrictions on weapons. Since it's my squirel gun its scoped for head shots at 50yards. So hitting neck, head or body shot to vitals is pretty easy.
