Late 1990s. I'm about 8 y.o. and watching "Some like it hot" for the first time on TV. Cold winter night, Siberia, small town in the middle of nowhere. 90s were terrible in Russia, crimes all over our little place and the whole country (paradox, it rhymes with the beginning of the American film about the 30s). I can't describe the amount of happiness I got that night. This film is what a STORY should mean, timeless classic. Adored in Soviet Union and Russia till these days. Probably my favorite Hollywood film. And Mr. Lemmon made this movie legendary. Rest in piece, Sir, your Genius is eternal.

I had such a crush on Jack Lemmon when I was a girl. I still love him. He was so funny in The Odd Couple and so sad in The Days of Wine and Roses. The interviewer was alright but I wish he hadn’t rushed Jack and bustled him on to the next thing when Jack wasn’t finished answering. Jack was very accommodating and gracious. What a gentleman.

How lovely it is to hear an intelligent conversation, sans cursing. These were times when people automatically held themselves to reach a higher plane. He was a true and charitable person. He never took himself too seriously. One young writer, whose name I don't remember, was invited to a cocktail party. It was full of bigwigs, and crowded. He knew no one and vice-a-versa. Then the famous Jack Lemmon came over to him and spoke with this young man at length. That is the definition of "class." RIP, Jack.

The interviewer was a real doofus. Didn't even know that Lemmon won the Supporting Oscar for Mister Roberts. His insistence on moving to more obscure early projects leaves out Lemmon's most strenuous, and important time, as an actor. I know this is supposed to be about his TV experience, but he needed to spend more time on Lemmon's career AFTER early TV. Talking about how his MOVIE experience was based on how he learned from TV, might have made for a much better 2 hours.

Great actor, however describing himself as middle class is puzzling, middle class kids did not go to Rivers Country Day, Andover Academy and Harvard (he is an alum of all three). at Harvard he lived in Eliot House and was an active member of several Drama Clubs - and president of the Hasty Pudding Club[- as well as a member of the Delphic Club for Gentleman, a final club at Harvard (hardly middle class). Very good actor Jack ----but sounds very flat . Perhaps he was prone to depression in his life ?

John Walton Yeah mate, try and track down his appearance on Inside The Actor's Studio if you can. He confesses as much on there. I don't know whether it was common knowledge at the time or not. I only saw it on a compilation/clips episode, haven't seen the full episode.
