    In the show, I do believe Elizabeth loved George, I never read the books, so I cannot tell on the behalf of that.
    She married him for money at first, but George has always treated her in the best way possible, never looked at other women, always tried to buy her the best things, dresses, jewelry, provide for her child, as he pays for Geoffrey Charles’ schooling. I feel like she learned to love him, or at least a liking of him.
    I, personally, really enjoyed them as a couple, I think George is a best fit for her, they are truly meant for each other.

      Yes! She chose him for a life of ease and she got it. Ironically, Ross is the most unfaithful of the 3 leading husbands.

      I think it's interesting that for the supposed "villain," George turned out to be a completely faithful, far better spouse than many of the "heroes."
      I also think George was correct in his realistic (and surprisingly humble) reading of Elizabeth's feelings for him when he proposed. I think she must have at least liked and respected -- if not loved -- him at the time. I believe the film version, at least, indicates that her feelings did warm to love eventually, even if it wasn't as deep as his love was for her. There are a number of scenes in which Elizabeth initiated tenderness towards him, which you wouldn't expect if she didn't love him.

      In the book, it's hard to decipher how she felt since we never got to see inside her head like the other characters. We always 'look at' Elizabeth. I actually agreed that she might end up loving George in her own way but not open enough with him (i.e Valentine, for obvious reason). But I can tell for sure that George did sincerely love her. He's faithful to her, treated her very well and missed her even after she's long gone and he's remarried to Harriet.

      I always felt that Elizabeth for George was a trophy, a culmination of his ambition to be accepted by the old aristocracy, and a symbol of his victory over Ross. George never seemed to be a person capable of love; it never mattered to him who the people in his life were, only to what they could be used for. Yes, it was mentioned a few times that he and Elizabeth understood each other rather well, and that she even impressed him with some of her qualities, but I would never call it love.

    While I think George and Elizabeth played their parts wonderfully. Elizabeth being love with George not once was she convincing on that part. George was "means to an end" for Elizabeth once again only thinking of herself. George I believe truly loved Elizabeth that pretty clear from the beginning, but I thought it was a possessive/controlling kind of love. He was obsessed with her which I found to be pretty creepy.

    I think she did care about George but I'm not willing to go so far as to say she was in love with him. She married him to avoid poverty and loneliness after the death of Francis. Her main concern was the comfort, happiness, and social status of her children. She wanted George to believe Valentine was his so that Valentine could inherit and have good standing in society. So, she took the concoction to induce pregnancy so she could say that she always has her babies at 8 months instead of 9. God only knows what was in that bottle. George is an enigma to me. On the one hand he is horrible. He is mean just to be mean. He has no scruples, compassion, or honor when dealing with others. On the other hand, he truly loves his wife. He's a good husband to her (except for the fact that he wanted to be rid of Geoffrey Charles since he was not his son). In the books, Elizabeth does the same thing she did in the show so she could ensure Valentine's place in society and his happiness. There's 12 books and she dies in book 6 or 7. The story itself spans 37 years so there's a lot that happens after her death.

      @@sofiab2920 But George didn't treat Geoffrey Charles badly until the kid persistently showed contempt to him. He was a generous godfather when GC was little. Later, as his stepfather, he paid for GC to go to a posh school, something neither Francis nor Ross could have provided him. GC never expressed gratitude to George for that, nor did he ever appear grateful that George was paying for all the expenses and maintenance of his ancestral home. Instead, he frittered away his money on drinking, gambling, and prostitutes. The kid thought he was entitled to George's money without showing him any respect. If I were George, I wouldn't have any use for GC either.

      @Qwertyuiop exactly George loved those who were his own. He literally grew a heart in his empty chest for Elizabeth. He probably would have embraced Geoffrey a bit more if it wasn't for Geoffrey constantly taunting that he believed his dad and Ross were better because they were Poldarks. Elizabeth also realized too late the manipulative power she had over George and could have helped with George accepting her 1st son more in the beginning. She could have actually made George a better man but sadly. But either way George will always dislike or hate Poldarks and Geoffrey will always be a Poldark

      @tracys169 11 місяців тому

      @@valrfl I agree. If Geoffrey Charles showed George any type of affection, George might have been less hostile toward him. But nope, both are firmly opposite as Geoffrey Charles is a proud Poldarks and most of the Poldarks (except Demelza and her kids), would view George as an upstart in addition of just being a horrible human being.

      I don't think so... in my opinion, Elizabeth might have been the only person George really loved (except for their son, maybe). He truly did everything for her and he kind of forgave-forgotten the fact that he wasn't sure Valentine was his child.
      He learned to love all of her children and previously accepted Francis as her husband.
      Okay, he hated Ross, but he had his own reasons.
      He made himself rich just because he wanted to be enough for her.
      What kind of person does that for another?
      Don't joke yourself, c'mon.
      I'm not saying George is a good person, but doubting about him loving Elizabeth is too much cruel and unfair.
      Love's not a game, babies. It's sacrifice.

      @limelight1397 3 роки тому +3

      @@chloeprice3784 'Her' husband you mean, I think.
      George didn't love Geoffrey Charles. He wanted him out the house and when he was studying and away from Elizabeth, George could pay all his attention to her.
      Elizabeth let George swore on the bible that he believed Valentine was his son and took Ross his advice for granted to have another child with George to secure George's love for her. And it worked.
      To remain that love she took a big risk, by having an early delivery of Ursula because she knew that George was always doubting if Valentine was his own son.
      How men could have such influence on women's life in that time, is really scaring.

    I love Ross saying in front of Elizabeth that Demelza is the love of his life and Demelza on her sick bed waking up saying did you come to take you and Ross responding no my love she can never take me…
    Later in Season 2:5- 9 Elizabeth play games to get Ross attention thinking it will make him chose her over Demelza but all she gets is a one night stand because Ross acts in a moment of weakness and anger angst George marrying Elizabeth but never thinking about the consequences but afterwards realizing that Elizabeth was just an affection from the past
