  • When the swell comes straight into the reef at Cape Solander in Sydney simply its too dangerous to paddle hence the only way to go is tow.

So if someone has been towed onto a wave, anyone else who is in the line-up (waiting to paddle in), just has to give it up to them. Not sure if the 'don't drop in' rule is very fair if you are good enough to get out there on a day like that by rock jumping. Don't want to start a war or anything, just saying, that would give me the s**ts. Or am I wrong and it isn't as crowded as I thought it was?

the guys towing are pests. sooner or later someone will get runover by the ski or hit by the tow rope and badly injured and marine authorities will ban PWCs in the area. the towers need to figure out a different angle into the wave when theres a pack of people trying to paddle in. kudos to the guys with the balls to paddle

That is one nasty slab, the guys towing in need to learn some surf etiquette, seemed kinda dickish where they were setting up, guys were paddling into it getting sic ones and they were dumping ropes right in front of em to get da wave

Seems to be 2 distinct skill levels on display here. Some serious ability required to paddle into these. To tow you need a) cash for a ski or a mate with both and b) balls. How good would it be if the tow teams gave some of the paddlers a tow from time to time?

As an old man, who learned to surf before jetskis I'm kinda anti-tow. All of the gear: inflateable vests, helmets, padding, ski ride out, ski ride if you're caught in the impact zone, no need to paddle, drop in, pop up, duckdive, etc. To me, it just isn't surfing. That being said, the gear opens up many spots that paddle surfers couldn't ride. I'd think, given the choice, paddle when possible, tow when impossible. Most tow spots have now been paddled into, but most every tow surfer can shred surfing "old school."
I didn't realize this was Cape Solander. It must be a rite of passage or something. A way to avoid some crowds, get a picture in a magazine, IDK. Kipp is an INCREDIBLY Talented surfer IMO, but at 5:00 I am just lost. He just stood up & the wave formed around him. It's like riding the backwash & you stall, stall, stall, until the face hits you & KA-FCKN-BLOOIE you snap your stick. Fcknuts, Kipp can barely foldup into that tubeit's so small. Definitely not worth breaking a board. But there are a few other spots with exposed reef, greater size, extra sharky. I'll take a bodywhomper here before I drown at 'The Right," "Shippies," "Cyclops," or that other right I only saw once. It too broke over dry reef. Maybe it was Laurie Towner who surfed it. It didn't have a name & wasn't popular. If anyone recalls the spot or video name/surfer please let me know. Thx.
ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO !! THANKS FOR POSTING !! Respect to all chargers regardless of method or ability. Pushing our limits is how we grow to open new doors.
