      Thank you for pointing this out! 💖
      I was born and raised in the church. I'm currently an inactive member (Meaning I still consider myself LDS but I don't actively participate by going to church or church functions.) My inactivity is primarily due to some issues I have with the culture, not the actual heart of the doctrine. I can attest that Utah and Idaho are considered over zealous and fixated on image to an unhealthy degree. Two of my sister-in-laws are from Utah and I can still see bits of that culture in there behavior even though both have moved out of Utah. Even so, most members are honest, faithful people doing the best they can to follow the doctrine and live wholesome lives. Still, it's nothing like what this show portrays.
      There are so many crazy stereotypes about the LDS church and so much misinformation out there. It often feels like the only portion that gets attention are, like @cinnamessinger said, a small percentage that just went off the deep end.

    I live in Utah and have a friend who is a social worker
    The FLDS have found a loophole where if they live in separate apartments, sister wife A can babysit sister wife Bs kids and get paid by the government to do so
    Edit: FLDS are not the same as LDS, I know. I’m formally LDS (baptized and all) and currently live on one of the Temple Streets in SLC. I know LDS don’t do this.
    The FLDS usually live in isolation and dress like they’re from little house on the prairie. They are usually abusive and have a weird culture where little boys compete against grown men for their cousins marriage.
    I am talking about the FLDS who live in places like Hiawatha or Lowa at least, the super isolated groups. They find ways to get into welfare unfairly

      @@caseyw.6550The reason OP brought up being a single mom is because a lot of people judge LDS single moms as not being "Mormon enough" because they either had premarital sex or got a divorce. There's a HUGE stigma against divorce, even if it's for valid reasons like infidelity or abuse, and huge pressure to get married if you get pregnant, which happens more often than they'd like to admit because they typically don't get very good sex ed.

      @lindsaymontoya9899 Місяць тому +39

      @selenophile5256 as a "Mormon Wife" myself, I would say:
      Swinging: It's definitely not normal, and it definitely goes against the fidelity teachings of the Church.
      Early marriage: While the average marriage ages in the Church is lower than the national average, 16 is not normal. 20s is normal (I got married at 26)
      Controlling husbands: There is nothing wrong with speaking out against controlling husbands, but the issue of having a controlling husband in the first place is not normal. The Church teaches about the roles of husband and wife being united together to lead and guide the family and to counsel together in all decisions and aspects.
      Will some say that these ladies are "normal Mormon wives", sure, but from my personal experience and other wives in my area, I would agree that they are not normal. It is all relative based on where you live/your own experiences/etc.

    I really appreciate the time you took to actually research the church and its beliefs! I will say, as a Mormon myself, there is a very distinct cultural difference between Utah Mormons and those outside the “bubble” as I’ve heard it called. I grew up on the east coast, but had a lot of family in Utah that we would visit regularly and it was always strange to experience the differences.
    But yes, no body is perfect. Every organization has those people that take it to the extreme and it’s very unfortunate. I feel for the women who lost their childhood and/or are experiencing abuse. Neither of those situation are ok, whether or not they are condone by certain groups within the church or not.

      I mean this respectfully..
      I'm also LDS. I grew up all around the world, but have lived in Utah for my entire adult life. I honestly really don't like the perpetuation of the "Utah Mormon" stereotype, as if people outside of Utah are somehow living a more true gospel. Every location has its own quirks, but Utah members are just as great as any other members. People in all groups respond to the circumstances they are placed in, and Utah honestly has some of the most difficult for members (of all levels of activity). I think we need to stop talking like this. It gives off "America sucks" vibes from someone who grew up in the US but then did a summer abroad and thought it was so sophisticated but they actually didn't understand where they're from or where they visited fully.
      The church is true, and it is taught the same by the same converted Christians all around the globe. As President Nelson has recently said, we need to unify and remove any idea of -ites from among us ❤️
      But as for your main point.. AMEN!

    Edit:
    The 'Mormons don't call themselves Mormons anymore' thing is just that members of the church were asked to use the full name, in part because otherwise it removes the name of Christ and many people end up thinking the church isn't Christian. It's not really offensive when used though.
    I can say a lot of the show is not normal/doesn't follow teachings in the church. Swinging isn't normal, being a 'Saint' because you're in a first marriage isn't normal, being married at 16 is very not normal.

    Hey Kris, I really appreciate that you keep things factual. I grew up LDS/Mormon and it always makes me sad when the religion and people get judged based on the history of the LDS church. So I was very on guard when you started talking about the history. But thank you for not being judgmental while giving your opinions and thoughts. I wouldn’t say I agree or believe everything with the church history either and have my own opinions about it. I also think that there can be vastly different cultures within the LDS church, especially in Utah. Between adjacent cities or even within different wards (different groups of people in the same area based on boundaries). So it’s not surprising that some people experience different things and agree or don’t agree with the portrayal of Mormons in the show. But again, thank you for your thoughts and opinions and making a factual and educational video 😊 I really enjoy you and your content!
    Edit: I agree, they go by LDS now, but I do still use Mormon as a term to describe the culture if that makes sense? LDS religion and members, but Mormon culture.

    22:10 so yes, we do refer to ourselves as mormon sometimes because that’s just what we’ve been known by and called for so long, but technically the correct name or referral is LDS member, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or member of the LDS church. it was changed and we ask to be referred to as an LDS member because it just more accurately depicts what we believe and worship, but we’ll respond to both, we just prefer to be called LDS members. hope that makes sense and clears things up!

      @WindchymeK9 Місяць тому

      @@QuestArt16 OR.....Satan loves that church, after all it distorts and adds to the bible (which the bible prohibits specifically) which he is all there for. And you might just be getting a hard time for representing yourself as Christian when that is not true. Your beliefs depart SUBSTANTIALLY from the bible. And then there is the things you believe and how you are controlled which has allowed and supported people from your church completely going off the rails and doing horrible things. The beliefs of the church actually support that kind of thinking and behavior. That kind of cultivation of that thinking and behavior is a danger....to the membership, and to the public otherwise.
      But I get it, calling it the "true church" makes people feel like they are in some important, exclusive club which tends to shut up any further questions because you're stroking their ego, and blaming it on satan relieves everyone of any responsibility to investigate the why's. I'm surprised you weren't also told to put it on a shelf because it isn't for you to understand....or were you told that. Another convenient way to shut down questions. Cults are good that way.

If they identify as Mormon and haven’t been excommunicated, then I don’t see why random internet people who don’t even know them get to decide whether they’re truly members or not. Active Latter-day Saint living in Utah here. Thanks for the respectful history at the beginning. Been enjoying your videos for a long time.
    I think it's important to state that these women are more representative of a subculture culture in utah and not the church itself. The culture of the members in this state has always been different from members elsewhere. And I wouldn't even say all of Utah. Mainly Salt Lake and Utah counties. I'm around the same age as these women and would hear about these "couples swinging parties" all the time in college. It still shocks me, not going to lie. That clip you shared of Taylor saying she's afraid to tell her bishop because she'll be "excommunicated" is 100% true. She would be. Excommunication isn't permanent, though. If someone wants to come back, they can. Just have to take the proper steps. I have family who has. Anyway, these women can claim to be "Mormon" all they want. The facts are most of them aren't living the actual values and standards of the church. But that's between them and God. Not my place to judge.
    ***sidenote: when you kept saying all these women look the same all I could think was "it's because the polygamy less than 200 years ago." We're all related in some way in this state lol

    Actually funny comment from the beginning of the video, my aunt was actually married to one of the Lebaron brothers. Since it was during a time when women didn’t question their husbands she naively went along with it when her husband joined his brother’s cult. When her husband got a second wife who abused her kids and she was outcasted to a cockroach infested trailer, her husband told her she could leave, but only with her kids and what she could carry. She then made it back to Utah in the 70s with 4 kids, no income, etc. She luckily escaped and made it back and everything’s fine now, but she was likely on their hit list. That whole story is crazy to me.
