I went from someone who never reads and had 8 books on my shelves at the start of the year. I now have 65 and this year I read 33. Not the best, but I still found myself in a place of being proud because I’m fairly sure I finished not even 5 last year. But, I love you la la because you’re so inspiring and I LOVE your photography.
Congratulations 🎉 That’s awesome!! 👏🏻✨. Isn’t that sense of proudness just the best? 😸 I myself have not read much over the past few years. I found book tube in April & was extremely motivated to pick up reading again. I read 38 books from then until the end of the year. Which is currently still blowing my mind lol
I never comment on videos BUT - you really are an inspiration. I had a baby this year and fell out of reading HARDCORE. I discovered booktube in October and your channel shortly after that. I binged your content, loving every second, and managed to read 29 books from October to December. Your channel helped me realize that you're never "too busy" to read - it's about prioritizing. Thank you for doing what you do and posting for a bunch of internet strangers. I can't wait to continue to follow you in 2019. :)
I appreciate the fact that you took the time to stack these up so many different ways, go deeper into the stats, genres, numbers, showing your bullet journal, and map, etc about what you read in 2018. Most people I watch don’t do that and watching 2018 wrap ups can get repetitive. Kayla, you have always been creative and putting so much work into your videos and the results are always entertaining and some of my favorites. Please continue this in 2019❤️
Wow, 134!! I would love to hear how you have read so many books! I didn't read as much compared to 2017, since I've had a very stressful personal year (So happy to start fresh with 2019 :) ) I ended up reading 26 books. I'm not upset, because I read some AWESOME books, but I definitely want to surpass that for 2019. So, I'm making my goal ~52 books but I hope I get to read more!
I always love watching your videos, and your end of year stat videos always inspire me. I'm hoping I can do something similar at the end of 2019. I didn't do a stats video this year, but I did keep track of some of them - I read 277 books, 75% of which were written by female authors. I just scraped in with 51% of the books I read being adult reads (as opposed to YA) which was a change for me. My most popular genres were Fantasy, Paranormal and Sci-fi. Thanks as always for being one of the most inspiring people on Booktube - your videos always make me smile. Happy New Year!
Oh my god! This video was so incredibly thought out, you must’ve worked so hard on it. It is amazing to be able to visually conceptualise what you read in all those different categories. Happy reading for 2019✨
This is one of my favourite videos of yours to watch! So much work goes into it and it's so fascinating! It also makes me realize how long I've been watching your channel!
Thank you for this video. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this video. I really liked learning about all the books you’ve read this year. ☺️
I'm mostly a "lurker", but watching your videos always makes me happy. I - too - geek out with all kinds of metrics tracking the things I read each year, and it's so fun to see someone else get all nerdy about the "numbers" behind the books, as well. This year I'm trying for 150 books read, which will be more than I've ever read in a single year. Going to watch your 2018 Favorites video now; don't know how I missed that!
This is so amazing the way you keep track of your reading and break it down. I love this video! I have Sawkill Girls on my to-read list and can’t wait to get to it.
I'm so glad there are other people in the world who track stats like this. I'm a spreadsheet fiend when it comes to my books! I'd rather watch a video like this than "books I'm excited for" and stuff like that any day
Yay Lala! That is a lot of books. This is my 4th year on booktube and I think it's insane how different my reading has been year to year. First year I read 180 to this year I read 84. I didn't finish a book in December last year which is a first for me, but I did end up finishing 5 this December. I love your stat videos and always vow to create one for myself at the end of the year, but I'll just live vicariously through you because that girlfriend is a lot of work. Good luck with your reads in 2019!
I did some reading stats this year--age, genre, star rating, how I acquired them (owned, bought, library, audio, etc), if I kept them after (if owned), and the star rating. Was very interesting. I read more true crime, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Thrillers than ever and read a variety of ages and genres. Was happy with what I read for the most part! YOU by Caroline Kepnes, Big Little Lies, The Prince and the Dressmaker, the Speak graphic novel, She's Come Undone, Columbine, What If It's Us, and The Couple Next Door were some of my top faves.
I don't know what she does, but I keep track of a lot of similar things and I like to keep it in a spreadsheet so I can customise what I'm keeping track of (in addition to my Goodreads)
There was a booktuber last year who came out with a spreadsheet for all these stats. portal in the pages i think is the channel name. You can google it and it should pop up. She has a link where you can download her spreadsheet in her description box.
I don't track it anywhere lol, I just keep track of the books I read on Goodreads and then at the end of the year I look through all the books, think of, and tally up all the categories I want to discuss haha
I love these stats video! 😍 I am currently reading “The Woman in the Window” and I am in struggletown! It is so slow, I don’t really care about any of the characters and so over women alcoholics in these types of books. Really struggling to get through it - might have to DNF. But I hate DNF-ing books. 🤷🏼♀️
Hey! I only just discovered your channel but I absolutely love your videos! We have quite a similar taste in books! Also, I really liked the visuals of this video (the layouts and the monthly piles etc) - it was so original and interesting!
Booknerd data! I love it! This video was great. I try to track my stats over the course of the year. I have moderate success. You shared some great tracking ideas that I took notes on and hope to incorporate for 2019. I need to finish compiling my data for 2018. I wish you a great reading (and life) year!!!
Interesting stats on what books you read. I used to read all the time, but stopped after going through some rough patches the last 4 years. Reading again is a NY resolution and have already started reading (Lee Child). Anyway, thought the video was very good.
I love Listen to Your Heart by Kasie West! I read quite a few of her books last year, but most of my reading of 2018 were rereads, such as the Adrian Mole series by Sue Townsend, the Vampire Beach series by Alex Duval, Beware of Kissing Lizard Lips, and then some Twisted Tales of Disney, As Old As Time and A Whole New World.
I read 175. Twenty-three more than last year. So, I'm like "whoa". I look forward to this year's videos, LaLa. Reading "Watching You" by Lisa Jewell now.
I love how visually appealing this is! I also track stats of my reading (through an excel doc), and when I do my recap, I'd love it to be this aesthetic, but I have the opposite situation of a majority of the books I read are from the library, so I'd have many more "dummy books." So I think I'll stick with my graphs and charts
Wow that’s a lot of books! I finished my challenge of 50. I have to agree that Daughter Of Smoke and Bone was not a good one for me. I dragged my entire October out reading it. Congrats on finishing your challenge and more! Good luck this year.
I'm so glad you did this video! I had fun reading my stats, but I loved how you showed everything! You always put so much into your videos and it shows ☺️
Enjoyed the video as always, Lala! Sadly, I only really got around to about 40 books. I will say though that they were all over 400 pages, so that's something. Can't wait for another year full of bookish content!
OMG I looooove the photo recaps. So amazing! I may have to incorporate something like this into my stats video. So glad I found your channel this year, it's been a joy to watch =)
I’m working on editing my book stats video...but I’m so amazed by your way of doing it. I love that you pile up the books instead of doing charts or graphs. I recently bought Save the Date by Morgan Matson and I’ve heard such mixed reviews that now I’m nervous to read it, but we’ll see.
Only getting to this video now, but I do love some bookish stats! I used the excel spread sheet made by Brock Roberts (is the guy, who I previously couldn't remember the name of). I've enjoyed and been surprised by that, because my goal was to read more classics, and by the end of the year 23,3% (14 books) we classics! I also read quite a few graphic novels 20% (12). Many books being classics meant that those books didn't garner many pages total, but 22 books out of 60 were published before the 2000s, which I found a bit surprising, but also not after realizing how many classics I picked up this year.
I did not think I'd love this as much as I did. This was so neat and nerdy. I may have to do something like this next year. 💙 Made me think about some of my stats
I read less than I hoped to, because I had some slump months, but that's okay. What I lacked in volume I think I made up for in quality, as I found my new favorite book! Wicked by Gregory Maguire has been sitting on my shelves for ages, and I was always too intimidated to pick it up from what I'd heard about it. When I finally hit a wave of reading energy, I decided to challenge myself to read it, and I was enthralled. Hands down, it moved into the top spot at my all time favorite book. So for me, it was an excellent year of reading just for that discovery alone!
Just a little tidbit for you (from an Australian): Tasmania is part of Australia (it is actually literally joined to Australia) and not a separate country.
If you want to scratch off some places on your map I suggest The City Of Saints and Thieves by Natalie C Anderson. You visit Kenya and The Congo and it’s a really good read I enjoyed it
Stats videos are the BEST! They're right up there with reading goals as some of my favorite yearend posts. If you're still interested, I just put a reading stats post up on my blog: danisbookshelf.com/2019/01/06/2018-reading-stats/
I'm really happy with my reading this year (146, 47,000 pages) but I definitely want to try to read a few more classics and series next year, I got out of reading for a few years and I feel like I am spending all my time reading new releases and missing out on a few older ones, so I hope I can balance both things better in the coming year. I did read some great books though and discover some authors I'm really excited to read more from.
I loved watching this so much! All your stats are so fascinating. You're such an inspiration to me both as a reader and creator. 💕 Do you track all of these stats on a spread sheet throughout the year? 😳 Oh, also! I could be wrong, but I think books that are contemporary and set in present day, but have fantastical elements are categorized as "magical realism" vs fantasy. It's probably something you already know, but thought it might help distinguish those two categories for you, since you happened to mention it during the shot of the books split between genres. 🙈❤️ Thank you for making such thoughtful and amazing content-- I hope you have a wonderful 2019!
I got through 61 books this year, which according to goodreads is the most books but not the most pages I ever read! A lot of my reading was determined by the read harder challenge, most of them I only thought were ok... I am a bit burned out by challenges so my only goal for 2019 is to enjoy my reading and go for whatever I'm in the mood for :D
me: I'll be super creative with my stats video. lala: *takes it to the next level* me: well... maybe next year hahah GIRL YOU ALWAYS SLAY. Hope your 2019 is just as successful. I can't wait to see what it brings you (no doubt a play button plaque. You deserve it so much
Well, you should try to read Indonesian book this year, Lala... :) maybe you want to try Mantiger or Beauty is a Wound by Eka Kurniawan, Paper Boats by Dee Lestari, or Rainbow Troops by Andrea Hirata :)
one of my favourite books of the year were the poet x, final draft by riley redgate (ya contemp), and nujeen by nujeen mustafa and christina lamb. which i highly recommend. it's about nujeen and follows her as she flees syria to europe in a wheelchair.
How do you keep track of all this!? It’s fantastic! Also, do you have a video about how you track your reading in your bullet journal? If yes, I’m going to go watch it. If not, you should! Your setup looks really cool! :D
Congrats!!!! I hope u keep it up this year!!!
Lillie Nguyen thanks! And in spirit of it I almost finished a book today, January 1st, just to kick it off right.
Congratulations 🎉 That’s awesome!! 👏🏻✨.
Isn’t that sense of proudness just the best? 😸
I myself have not read much over the past few years. I found book tube in April & was extremely motivated to pick up reading again.
I read 38 books from then until the end of the year. Which is currently still blowing my mind lol
BooksNovelsDisney I hope you had amazing reads 😀 reading is all about becoming a habit!
Dhana Skye 👏🏻 good job! I think booktube definitely helped
I read 74 books this year and was so proud, 134 books is great! You're a legend
i read exactly 74 books too
I read roughly 74 books as well! I need to do a final count to be sure, but it's right around 74! :)
I appreciate all the effort that goes into these videos each year. It’s very interesting to see and I love all the statistics of it.
Marti M true 🤗

Your bullet journal is so pretty. And that's an amazing amount of books.

am I the only one shook by the background change? lol... good shook? bad shook? idk but shook.
I was just thinking how much I wanted a Lala video and here she is! The Queen delivered!
Omg 🙌🙌🙌
So much effort must have went into this video! Wow!
Wow, 134!! I would love to hear how you have read so many books!

I am. So impressed with how much you read. I can't believe this is the least you have read in the past 4 years!
Thanks girl 💕 💕💕
I've been waiting for this video since your 2017 version. your end of the year wrap up and stats are by far the best of the best !
You are seriously the BEST booktuber! I love your style. 💗 it’s obvious how much time and effort you put into the things that you do.
Thank you for this video. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into this video. I really liked learning about all the books you’ve read this year. ☺️
This is so pleasing to me. It calms my soul.

Your attention to detail is just amazing .This is the best video on this topic.
I love all the stats video! It's amazing how well your reading went with a full-time job and everything.
I'm so glad there are other people in the world who track stats like this. I'm a spreadsheet fiend when it comes to my books! I'd rather watch a video like this than "books I'm excited for" and stuff like that any day
Your stats is what I live for every year! It soothes and fascinates me!
Well, this is just great! A book every 2.7 days...I'm blown away! You are an inspiration!

how to do you keep track of your stats? just your bujo and goodreads? do you just add everything up at the end of the month/year??????? I NEED TO KNOW

@@Jazzy1230 I personally use a pretty intense spreadsheet myself, I just wanna know how Kayla does it lmao
I don't track it anywhere lol, I just keep track of the books I read on Goodreads and then at the end of the year I look through all the books, think of, and tally up all the categories I want to discuss haha
your end of the year stat videos make me so darn happy!!!!!

if you want to read a book from Turkey I would recommend Elif Shafak. I picked up one of her books and fell in love with her style

i love data, so these are my favorite kinds of video. Neverworld Wake was one of my favorites of the year, such a great surprise!

Your stats videos are always so intriguing.

I love videos like this! Lists and nerdy book stats I’m geeking out here! 😁
Love your stats-y videos. Would love to see a video comparing the last 4 years of stats

I did not think I'd love this as much as I did. This was so neat and nerdy. I may have to do something like this next year. 💙 Made me think about some of my stats
This is one of my favorite videos that you make. I love all the nerdy stuff!
I’m so excited to see what video ideas you come up with this year! You are amazing!!
This is the most satisfying video I've ever watched. I love this!
Now I’m feeling like making my own book stats for 2018
I read less than I hoped to, because I had some slump months, but that's okay. What I lacked in volume I think I made up for in quality, as I found my new favorite book! Wicked by Gregory Maguire has been sitting on my shelves for ages, and I was always too intimidated to pick it up from what I'd heard about it. I love your bullet journal! 😍 Stats are so fun. I read 89 books (my goal was 70).
these are always my favorite videos that you upload!!
Just a little tidbit for you (from an Australian): Tasmania is part of Australia (it is actually literally joined to Australia) and not a separate country.
I've been waiting DAYS for this so thanks for making my year
I always love this stats video and this year is no exception! Well done.
I read 138 books this year! I'm hoping to reach that mark again or even bypass and reach a higher mark and clean out my tbr!
Ngl, I’ve been sitting here for days waiting/hoping/wishing for this video! 🥳
If you want to scratch off some places on your map I suggest The City Of Saints and Thieves by Natalie C Anderson. You visit Kenya and The Congo and it’s a really good read I enjoyed it
These are my favorite videos of yours!
This is the most complete Book Stats I've watched !!
I just love your videos so much! And HAPPY NEW YEAR!
This is always my favourite video of yours every year 😍
Stats videos are the BEST! They're right up there with reading goals as some of my favorite yearend posts. If you're still interested, I just put a reading stats post up on my blog: danisbookshelf.com/2019/01/06/2018-reading-stats/
Lala, you getting sick was the worst. Missed your videos so much 😭😂😂
This had to have taken a lot of time, so proud and appreciate you!! This was so interesting ❤️
Oh how I love this video every year :) i'm so glad you did!! the book nerd within me thanks you
More booktubers need to make stats videos like these
I love them!
How impressive! I did really good on my GoodReads goal by reading about 80 books! I hope to read 90-100 books in 2019!
The map was such a good idea
I love every video you make. You are so creative
This is my favorite video I love looking at the stats for your books!!
This is my favorite video you do all year! I'm so excited ❤❤

Omfg all your perfects literally broke me but god was it amazing!!! I wish I could give it 10 stars
i always love your stats videos so much !!
I really wanted to make this type of video but have only kept track of my reading since June. Am already looking forward to next year to make one 🤩
I love these videos. I am still gathering up all my stats but plan to have a video eventually.
You’re such an inspiration & Your hair is frickin beautiful 😍😍
Just curious, what book did you read set in Tasmania? I am from Tassie and have never read a book set here and would love too!
I got through 61 books this year, which according to goodreads is the most books but not the most pages I ever read! A lot of my reading was determined by the read harder challenge, most of them I only thought were ok... I am a bit burned out by challenges so my only goal for 2019 is to enjoy my reading and go for whatever I'm in the mood for :D
me: I'll be super creative with my stats video.
lala: *takes it to the next level*
me: well... maybe next year hahah
GIRL YOU ALWAYS SLAY.
The books that won The Lala Award need to be read!
Where did you get your country scratch off map? It's awesome, and I never thought to tailor to books I've read!
This is my favorite video you do each year! I started doing my own reading stats video on my channel because I loved yours so much!
i love stats video! hope you’re feeling better!
This is the most satisfying video. I love it.
one of my favourite books of the year were the poet x, final draft by riley redgate (ya contemp), and nujeen by nujeen mustafa and christina lamb. which i highly recommend. it's about nujeen and follows her as she flees syria to europe in a wheelchair.
How do you keep track of all this!? It’s fantastic! Also, do you have a video about how you track your reading in your bullet journal? If yes, I’m going to go watch it. If not, you should! Your setup looks really cool! :D
