  • Playthrough of the Marshall JCM 800 Kerry King Signature amp. This is basically a modded 800 with KT88 power tubes instead of EL34s. Its got a Kerry King signature mode called 'The Beast' with two adjustable controls: 'assault' and 'gate.' The assault knob controls the amount of the built in Kerry King signature EQ boost. The gate knob is a built in noise gate, which does a good job and comes in handy for sure. You can hear the noise gate working around 2:30. When The Beast mode button turns red that means the noise gate is clamping down. You can set it according to your preference and it doesn't cut off your lead guitar sustain unless you set it too high.
    I personally like to get as much drive as I can from the Preamp gain and use a little bit of the Assault control for a boost. I think it sounds better that way but thats just my taste. You can use an overdrive pedal with the regular JCM 800 mode to boost as well.
    Anyway, please let me know what you think...

    If you can afford one....get one. These things are beast.
    One Marshalls best heads.
    And the louder it is, the meaner it gets.
    My 2203 KK and my TSL are the only heads I'll ever need.

    This thing sounds badass here. This is what a Marshall should sound like and more people would be using them today! Marshall rarely does well with modern metal tones but this seems gr8!

      A boosted JCM800, DSL100, and a bone-stock JVM say otherwise. The JVM is one of the most brutal amps I tried.

      i found they might not sound the most impressive right away, but in a live setting they cut through the mix really well.

    Crazy how many legendary death metal albums used these JCM800s, I never really knew that until I started looking into it. Every time I’ve seen Nile live they’ve had the old JCM800s, I’m sure they boost them but couldn’t see well enough to tell.

    Got mine when guitar center was blowing them out when they were discontinued. Been through a dozen Marshalls thru the decades. Only two I have kept is the KK and a Langner mod 800.

    Just bought a used one off reverb. this amp is way underrated.One of, if not only Marshalls most brutal amps.This amp could easily compete with a Mesa Rec ,or Peavey 6505, Engl.

    Would love to hear this boosted with an OD0808 with the beast mode off, and compare it boosted with an SD-1. Thank you for making this video though there aren't enough high quality demos of this amp on youtube it sounds great.

      I don't even think this monster needs a boost with the Beast Mode.

    Maaaaaaann i love my JVM410H, and its a total beast that dont need the gain over 12 o'clock on the OD2 channel in red mode for metal but im definitely gunna chase down a 2203KK!!!!
    I couldve had the halfstack for a steal about 6-8mths ago but i didnt want the hassle of getting the cab freighted with the head and he wouldnt split them and im fuming i didnt just get it now 😫

    Hey Hani, great Demo of this Beast -)
    Do you think it needs some sort of Booster to get really tight ? I mean that sounds already pretty nice but i think my JVM and EVH5150 are a bit more tight !

    • @HaniTaqi77
      @HaniTaqi77  6 років тому

      It depends on your style but its always good to have a tube screamer handy in case you need it. Those amps you mentioned are probably tighter. Thanks for your comment!

    I'm no expert but it seems those EQ knobs actually do something unlike the original JCM800. Has anyone compared the 2203 against the 2203KK?

      @HaniTaqi77  7 років тому

      Thanks for your comment! Yes I still have the amp and I'm glad I bought it. It does traditional metal to thrash very well. You can get some great classic rock tones too if you switch off the assault mode.

      im using it with an 2x12 orange cab. i get the slayer tone but i wish i had the recto cab. what do you think about it using with the recto cab?

    • @erszebet

      im a die hard slayer fan

    • @HaniTaqi77
      @HaniTaqi77  8 років тому +1

      +erszebet The Orange cab is good but a little darker sounding. Recto cab is brighter but has a lot of bass too if that makes sense. It works fine with the Recto cab and obviously with a Marshall 1960 cab too, which I use also.

    Miced with just one SM57? Sounds excellent! I have to get this amp. Shame on the stupid tribal decorations, but you can propably get this cheaper than regular 2203 because of those.

    • @HaniTaqi77
      @HaniTaqi77  6 років тому

      Yes always one 57. Yeah its a little cheaper. I will do a comparison with a regular JCM 800 (with the assault mode off of course).

    Have you use an overdrive on This amp? Like horizont precision drive. Maybe can do well modern metal?

    • @HaniTaqi77
      @HaniTaqi77  4 роки тому +1

      I've used a Tubescreamer. It sounds good with one. I think it can do modern metal no problem.

    does anybody know if kerry put his eq pedal in the front of the amp or does he put it in the fx loop?

    • @justinp173
      @justinp173 Рік тому

      I'm guessing he put it in the front. A lot of Kerry's 800's are surely of the older variety, without a loop. I could be wrong.

    do you use an overdrive pedal? post processing etc? because this is the angriest sounding marshall ive ever heard

    I have no experience in this kind of guitar tuning, can you explain me what guitar/pickups and strings I should use to get this kind of tone with my jcm800?

    • @HaniTaqi77
      @HaniTaqi77  7 років тому

      This is a 7 string guitar tuned down a half step. EMG pickups. Nothing special really. Do you have a regular JCM 800 or the KK version?

    • @lovecraftmusic8717
      @lovecraftmusic8717 7 років тому

      I have a stock '89 800 that I boost with an sd1 and a ge7...and I use a dp100 pickup

    • @HaniTaqi77
      @HaniTaqi77  7 років тому

      That's a cool setup. This amp is a modded 800 so it has a lot more gain on the Assault channel. You can get an amazing tone out of your amp with your setup, but not exactly sure how to get this exact tone because this amp sounds different than a regular 800.

    • @lovecraftmusic8717
      @lovecraftmusic8717 7 років тому

      +Hani Taqi no worries, I just wanted to know about lower tuning and a more modern sound by tweaking the guitar, since I've always played standard 6 strings and standard heavy metal-death metal tunes. check my videos if you want.
