In my home when you buy or get a new perfect object its a tradition to scratch it or make some superficial damage to it. We then say 'there its not new anymore' and the idea is now you won't be afraid to use it or afraid of ruining it. Clearly Wabi Sabi is embraced by many cultures in different ways. :)
@@aysepersona4194 My family is career military all the way back so they could have picked it up anywhere. But i was told that the (Europe centric) Rom had a similar practice as well.
Eh what if you want to send it back or resell it someday? Damaging something on purpose is just wasteful in my opinion and not really fitting minimalism
I was so sad that you hadn't uploaded yet and then! It was another meaningful and peaceful video. Thank you for the constant high-quality content. :) We all appreciate it.
This is me. I always wait for the perfect time for something to execute but that time doesn’t come. We need to embrace what we currently have and deal with it. And not to forget, always enjoy the moment, not the past nor the future.
I really needed this video. I have been too focused on the downsides of imperfection and this was a lovely reminder that it's ok not to have everything be perfect, myself included. Thank you.
The concept or practice of Wabi-Sabi sounds very beautiful. Life is truly an experience that incorporates the "imperfect". What some would view as flaws, others view as character and uniqueness. Coming to terms with a life that is not only about existence but about embracing aging in a gracious manner. I have been enjoying your philosophical moments CK. Thank you.
Your philosophical videos are my favorites. What I understand of Wabi Sabi is very moving to me, and it can be helpful in so many ways. How to make more beautiful what I already have? Both in terms of physical possessions and in relationships with loved ones. How to find hope and good work in the present moment, even while I dream of "better" in my life. Also, in terms of style, for those who do not like items that show wear and tear, we can remember that repair is an increasingly lost skill and attitude that can still serve us well.
I've spent the last year reading everything I can find on Japanese Aesthetics. As I understand it: Wabi Sabi is two related ideas: Wabi: hermetic, austere, rustic. Often the idealizing of "getting away from it all." Wabi is the imperfections resulting from something being handmade; often with limited tools or supplies. Sabi: Weathered, worn, having patina. In Japanese, it has the same root word as "rust." Sabi is the damage resulting from the inevitable age of an object, but it can also be the appreciation of a well-repaired object. An object can have Wabi without Sabi, and vice-versa.
Kit, I feel "self-development" is not an accurate description of your content. I think it should be "other-development", because you don't only develop yourself, but you are helping others grow! I think minimalism and the idea of wabi-sabi is much needed in this consumerist world, where materialistically, we get richer and richer while spiritually, we become poorer and poorer. Thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge with the world :)
I am slowly embracing minimalism into my life just by watching your videos. Especially this video, embracing imperfections and accepting my failures as part of my journey towards my goal made me feel better and less stressed. Thank you!
Intuitively I feel like Wabisabi is very true. It’s interesting that it has not only a term but a deep philosophy to it. I appreciate your channel. I’ve made a few minimalism oriented videos recently. Typically I like to make thought-provoking content about self development, minimalism, mindfulness, and uncommon truth. If you or anyone checked it out I really appreciate feedback especially in the early stage of my channels development. Thank you! Stay safe and be blessed 🌿

Embrace your 'baby' face and nasally voice! Like mine too. Im short and have baby face. Though it's kinda frustrating and tiring as countless time ppl thought im underage and countless neck stretching to talk to people who taller than me. But im content. Well that's my perfect imperfection.
Your explanation made it easier to understand wabi sabi. To be honest, I am afraid of everything you have said and this made me start to embrace my imperfections.
I was waiting yesterday for your upload. Thank you for uploading today and thank you for the encouragement to embrace our feelings. Looking forward for more videos :)
I just came across your channel yesterday and it is exactly what I needed. I have recently discovered wabi sabi and learning more about it every day.. from my living space, to being more aware of my natural surroundings, finding the joy and appreciation in imperfect natural things... Hello! Thanks for that video! I have one question about minimalism: I really want adopte a minimalist life style because I feel that it's something that truelly made for me. The "problem' is that I am an artist and I have a lot of sketchbooks, drawings etc. And I can't put my work in a trash or a recycle bin. Because that things (sketchbook, drawings) represents my progress through each year of hard work and help me feel alive and wery happy. I know that I can scan all the stuff but a scaned drawing have NOT the same quality as the original. If you look the scanned art pieces from the famouse museums of the world (you can find it on Google), and after you'll going visit that museums you will see the difference between the quality scan/photo and the original. So the question is: how should I start if I don't want lose my work? Should I let go the things that bring the sens/happiness in my live? Thanks
I mean this is just my take on it, but if your work and art is bringing you joy and value there's no reason to get rid of it. Minimalism is about finding whats most valuable to you, and if having your art with you douse then that's amazing. That said if you just need a neater ways to organize things you could go through your pieces and pick the ones that are most valuable to you or represent your skills/progress and put those into a portfolio to look through at anytime. If you have any stand out pieces you might even be able to frame them around the house so that turn into decor instead of clutter. I also have one artist friend who dedicated a bookshelf to her notebooks, so that they could be organized and have their place in the house but were also out of the way and not really adding to the clutter of her apartment.
Georgy SIBILEV dont trash them. Minimalism is about to KEEP what is important, not the quantity of certain things. I love my books, I read them, they’re important to me, so, they still.
Hey Georgy! Thanks for sharing. I totally agree with the comments from Aniel and Fernanda. Minimalism isn't about removing every thing in your life. If it's something that brings you joy and value, keep it by all means. If they are just messy, having an organized system to keep them neat is important. I hope this can help you out! All the best to you and your minimalism journey.
