- Modern Wabi-Sabi Home Tour
▸ Modestly veiled behind layers of silvering chestnut cladding, this monastic oasis, with courtyard garden, has recently been completed to a beautifully contemplative and tactile design by Takero Shimazaki Architects. The house can be found on Tiverton Road, a short walk from Kensal Rise, between the green spaces of Queen’s Park and Tiverton Green. Taking its inspiration from Turner’s ‘Interior of an Italian Church’ the house is intended as a sanctum from the modern world, its monolithic structure and measured pools of light a rare environment for focus and reflection. The design expertly marries light and lighting with a simple, textured palette of concrete, natural wood and stone, echoing the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi …

Rewatching this in 2023, 5 years after from its release and my feeling for it still vibes in the same frequency. What an absolute charm.
I treasure you so much for sharing this 🙏🏽🧡🤗
It feels like a monastery
Adding warm accents like cozy quilt or Afghan and other paintings reflecting calm waves would help. I agree it is too antiseptic
Me encanta, simplicidad, elegancia, transmite paz, tranquilidad.
Its beautiful 😌👌
There definitely is a kind of beauty to its simplicity, but there’s just something very “sad” and “lonely” about this place. Maybe it’s the cement walls? Idk, but it looks more like a giant art project than a livable home.
Yeah. Those low ceilings and the relentlessly grey palette inspired a claustrophobic feel for me. And the odd whispering under the music ("I can help you"?!!!) hinted at a sanitorium. I didn't even finish the tour. It was just unnerving.
The owner of this home is a musician and art enthusiast. I think the sad and lonely comes from the vacant spaces left by minimal furniture. I personally think it is natural and serene. I love the use of cement in homes, the way it evolves as it ages is beautiful.
I agree with you! The house looks depressing and bad memories 😥😢
@@Rachii96ify I love the look, but some of the rooms were just too poky. Apart from that, I'd live there 😁
@@nandimthethwa5836 That's all a matter of perspective and personal taste. I love it, apart from the small size of some of the rooms 😁👍👍
Fabulous! Thanks for sharing
TIL Luke skywalker's family on Tattoine embraced the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic
Looks cold
Too austere , I feel I like have to eat salads all day to live in that
That’s really funny, true, and funny.
Hell No get a pizza to juxtapose the place!🍕
I love pineapple videos but this one looks like you furnished a parking garage.
Is this truly wabi sabi though? It is modern, it is minimalist, and it makes an honest use of materials, it is undeniably beautiful. However wabi sabi puts more emphasis on imperfection and usedness on the stories that each object can tell, like how the slope on the centre of a stone step can tell the story of thousands of people having walked up and down it etc. I have noticed that each object uses reused materials which I suppose is Wabi Sabi but is the building truly wabi sabi until it has been lived in?
If a house is a perfectly designed wabi sabi home is it really wabi sabi?
@@JerryFlorez If the imperfections are a part of the perfect design, I guess it still is.
Wabi-sabi tea sets are beautifully executed, the flaws and all.
Look at the colors and the material used.
Almost every house can be wabi sabi if you give her that spirit
mad question but are you on my linguistics course??? - caitlin
@@pineappledecor you are entirely correct. It is the spirit that counts.
It is a beautiful, serene, modern looking house but not sure if I would consider it to be wabi sabi influenced? It may become wabi sabi once it gets scuffs scratches and cracks from use and time, but I would argue that would be the case for every house.
Maybe, it is as you say. Influenced but not necessarily wabi sabi itself
Can only time truly provide wabi sabi?
Good question. I’m not sure. Wabi sabi is typically viewed as “a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay.” This pristine house looks as though it was manufactured to have that look. It doesn’t look as though the imperfections naturally occurred.
@@georgecrook9113 Yes. It's all about time.
@@pineappledecor Wabi Sabi is definitely definable. The term would not be used to describe anything if there was no definition. Check it out on the Internet. It is really interesting.
Bello y espacios tranquilos
Love!❤️
Magnificent!!!
Excelente Vídeo!,y me encanta el estilo!😉👍🇦🇷
I think Faux Wabi-Sabi might be a more fitting description of this house. To me, over-designed. The arches everywhere seem like something that looked good on the computer screen but feel
out of place somehow. I'm all for clean and spare and modern but this feels like a photo set to me (I do interiors photography as part of my job as a full-time, freelance photographer). And honestly, either the designer or the owner or both would probably have a melt-down if they saw any "imperfections" as defined by the idea of wabi-sabi.
very nice,thanks.
LOOOVEE
It’s beautiful but not for me, I like more color more fabric and wood
Stark...
At 3.37 there is a light fixture. Can anyone help me find the source ?
Encourages outdoor in and when indoor a meditative abode
Yes, nice point of view
@@pineappledecor thanks. Looking forward to more such captivating views
matty healy and kanye west two intellect artist think the same about lifestyle, and if you dont feel this vibe then you dont get it.
is this healy's house?
❤️❤️
Is this Matty Healys house? I'm-
It literally is lmao
I just watched a video where he mentioned his house & wabi sabi. UA-cam wabi sabi design and here it is, Matty Healy’s house haha
@@curtblack686 Same ahaha
Yes its his house lmaooo
celiene scopinich THIS WAS LITERALLY MY FIRAT THOUGHT
Wabi-Sabi? More a Cement Bunker!
Pling pling pling piano without soul does not exactly help to lift the spere either. 😆
Wabi sabi is not for everyone, it’s a lifestyle in the first place and then way of designing a home. It requires a deeper understanding.
Wabi sabi interiors attracts attention with its simple, raw, natural beauty. :D
@@pineappledecor you got wabi sabi all wrong. it can't be designed.
omg this is matty healy’s house???? but damn
The designer was Obviously not a cook 🙄
Very beautiful, aesthetic but not a place to live.
I prefere wood as building material. Cement is way too urban. Is this wabi sabi?
The opposite of cozy. Stark and cold. Some aspects are interesting but I couldn’t live in it.
Wabi Sabi in general is interesting design but the rounded windows/doors does not work well. It seems to me that all the rounded stuff is more Arabic than Wabi Sabi?
everything in this home has dated well, considering 3 - 4 years old, except the kitchen. A white kitchen to me does not reflect the Wabi-Sabi/Japandi aesthetic
who is the architect?
Takero Shimazaki Architects
SIMPLESMENT BEAUTIFUL, This is my goal to build, decorate my house in France xx
@@missSchultz Do you need teakwood items or natural rattan furniture?
Hm. I kinda don't like it. Makes me feel like I'm an old dying man.
Lol wow I love that it really took you somewhere maybe not a pleasant place but I love the ability a place can have to transport someone
@@JMac-27 That's a great way of looking at it! Maybe it triggers, what was my emotion at the moment of the comment. Though I usually feel young and vital. :)
Looks like Kanye’s house
MA E
Let’s see the house when someone lived I. It for a year. This is staged for the video, no one lives like that.
The concrete walls drain my soul just to look at them..... horrid
Ugh it cools me off I want to lie on it naked 😂
Too boxy - the concrete walls need something……
Dreary...depressing..too severe for me..
...concrete will stay an ugly material forever - no matter how they hype it recently - not the slightest trace of subtlety or transcendence, just pure, ignorant - well: 'concreteness' ....
but concrete looks just like many mountains.
@@mikeberray ...sorry, I can't agree! To me it looks simply like an underground car park =D. Not natural at all. Although I often love the space and form concepts of modern architecture - I'll never make friends with that material ...
