  • Historian Robin Anderson provides a brief master-class on reading editorial cartoons through a fine selection of James Brian "Fitz" Fitzmaurice's work. Fitzmaurice was the cartoonist-in-residence at the Vancouver Sun in the first two decades of the twentieth century. In the final two years of the Great War (1914-1918) he produced over 500 cartoons in which he, with humour and a sense of morale, reflected on German, British and American propaganda, as well as the Vancouver homefront. Anderson shows us how Fitzmaurice's contributions allowed for some relief during a period of great stress and personal loss.
