This whole album needs to have a deep dive done to it. Tom Scholz went to MIT and built all of the equipment and pretty much did everything himself basically in secret, behind the record company's back. (They wanted the album recorded in California)
is mainly composed of songs written many years prior to their appearance on the album. Scholz wrote or co-wrote every song on the first album (with the exception of "Let Me Take You Home Tonight," written by Brad Delp, the vocalist), played virtually all of the instruments, and recorded and engineered all the tracks at home, in his basement, in Boston!
Another great reaction you guys!!! I hope you will give this record the attention it deserves

18 years after this album was released, Brad Delp (the lead vocalist) decided to headline a group called "BeatleJuice". It was something he did for fun. All they did was play covers of Beatles songs. But they were such incredibly great musicians that it was a privilege to hear them play. In 2005 I ran a road race in Boston and afterwards the race director had hired BeatleJuice to play. We all sat there for hours listening to these incredible musicians just crush covers of some of the greatest songs ever written. With free beer not less.

This is false in multiple aspects. First off there are 5 other musicians besides Tom who play on 1to 3 songs on this record. In addition, all of Toms instrument tracks were on one inch 12 track tape at a different IPS than the then industry standard 24 track two inch tape. The track masters that went on to be mixed at Westlake Studio by Boylan, Dewey and Tom were all on 2 inch 24 track tape. The mix was done on 24 track tape and the mix was most certainly not done in Toms basement as his studio did not have the wherewithal to mix this record. In addition it is well documented that this record was mastered at Capital Studios by Wally Traaugot

Anne, I was 13 years old in 1976 when this album (their debut) was released and I've been a big "Boston" fan ever since. You wouldn't believe how popular this album was; every song on it got a ton of airplay on the radio, and it went platinum very quickly (I think within a few months). There's a UA-cam channel dedicated to the band (not sure if it's official): ua-cam.com/channels/J-xpa4Q7dSnbNRwuO-9t4Q.html
Here are a few songs that I highly recommend: "Peace of Mind", "Smokin'", "Hitch a Ride", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "The Launch - Cool the Engines", and "Walk On Medley".

@@annemaclean6634 You're welcome! The first 3 songs in my suggestions are all on their debut album (as well as "More Than A Feeling" & "Foreplay/Long Time"). I did want to add a little more info about "The Launch - Cool The Engines" and "Walk On Medley". Technically "The Launch" and "Cool The Engines" are separate tracks, but on the album (titled "Third Stage") the former plays like an intro into the latter, similar to "Foreplay/Long Time". I haven't seen any reaction videos, but I saw a fanboy YT video that plays it over SpaceX launch images. "Walk On Medley" (on the album "Walk On") is about 12.5 minutes long, split into 4 sections like movements in classical compositions. Good listening!
