    One of my biggest fear is being burnout and losing my compassion and the expectations to be a psychologist even outside work , so thank you for sharing about these important topics

    I really appreciate your comment on western work clothes! I think it's very insightful, and I never thought of simple and monochromatic clothes as rooted in racism until coming across your video.
    This past week, I felt more like myself as an intern therapist who plans to become a counselor. I still feel some imposter syndrome, lol, but I'm glad to notice I feel more like myself when I took more care of myself (i.e, mud mask, trimming my nails, spending time with my husband).
    Also, you have a very calming presence. :) I'm sure your clients enjoy your therapy style!

      appreciate it! haha someone once told me imposter syndrome is so endemic to early career psychologists, so glad you're feeling more yourself!

Australia must be so beautiful and one day I would like to live in another country and help as much people I can with my degree. Thank you so much and please don't stop making your videos! Really glad I came across your channel. Loved this video, thanks for being so honest and transparent about your experience of being a psych, which helps normalize my and (pretty sure a lot of other psychologists') experiences. Yeah so thanks for being the inspiration I needed today! :)

    Would you be able to make a video about how to be the financial side of working and practicing/studying such as income on placement and masters, work during honours etc? I’m going back to uni to do my honours next year in psychology and I am just nervous about my income going back 😩

    • @thepsychdiaries
      @thepsychdiaries  3 роки тому +3

      ooh yea great questions- unfortunately there is zero income on placement/ in masters/ during honours unless you pursue normal part time jobs like being a receptionist or an ABA therapist or researcher, it's definitely a bit investment though!

    In Norway the only way to become a clinical psychologist is to apply to the 6 year psychology program, which is only avalible at four universities! The positive part is that you do not need a bachelor, master and doctor, because ofter those six years you are an authorised psychologist. You can apply straight from highschool, and i have applied this year! I am sooo nervous because it is the hardest program in Norway to get into aside from medicine. I’ll know if i get in two weeks from now and the waiting is killing me!

    Thanks for another super helpful video Roanna! It's great that you're enjoying your sessions more and feeling more confident about putting your own personality into it! I love bright colors too and think that could actually help lift a client's mood a little :) And I think a big part of living what you preach as psychologist is knowing what brings you joy and feeling comfortable being authentically you, whether that involves bright clothes, latin dancing or anything else! I also have a question for you: are there private practice clinical psych jobs out there with more stable income? Thanks!

    • @thepsychdiaries
      @thepsychdiaries  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Nikki! Thanks as always for watching! ☺️☺️ oh great question re: private practice- I was actually offered the ability to hop on a salary in my private clinics however at both they said I would earn more charging per client (which I think I do). The other thing is that if you're on salary for a private clinic you're often required to see a minimum number per day so you have less flexibility. Some clinics offer a salary until you build a caseload then they offer to pay you per client :) if it's a good clinic director they're usually flexible to discuss options with you (and make sure to consult colleagues before ever signing a contract you feel might be taking advantage of you!)

    Your take on the particular attire that you wear was interesting. However, the perspective that I had was, where's the attention of the client going to be? Are they going to be distracted by their psychologist wearing flashy, bright colour clothes, or will it have no impact on their perception? I'm not sure, but that's what came to mind for me.

    I just found your channel, and I'm so grateful. I'm a new mum, and I've dreamt of becoming a psychologist for so long. Do you think it's possible for someone to achieve this dream while still being an attentive and attuned parent?

    • @thepsychdiaries
      @thepsychdiaries  3 роки тому

      Ooh rainy mae I think the fact that you're considering issues like that around work/ life balance already show how thoughtful and attentive you're being. Tbh I'm not sure how much I could add as I've personally never been a parent, however I do admit the study process is pretty gruelling- afterwards though its incredibly flexible as you can choose which days/hours you want to work!

    Hi Roanna, thanks for sharing. I really enjoy your video. Just curious about the salary psychologists get working at private practices. Do you get base salary at all or is it more like commission for each appointment? I hope it’s not too abrupt to ask that cuz I’m thinking leaving teaching ( currently a high school teacher) for psychology. Just keen on knowing what I’m about to sign up for.

    hi thankyou for such amazing videos - i'm thinking of studying psychology next year but worry about whether ill find it too challenging, I struggle with mental health (depression & anxiety) which is one of reasons why I find psychology so interesting - but I've never been great at maths and science. I love essay writing and research though, would you say that you need to be good at maths to succeed at psychology degree/to become psychologist ?

I think my advice would be to reach out to your uni's psychology faculty/ the uni you would like to get into and ask their individual requirements. Good luck!
