Berlin Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in Berlin, Germany. It came into full operation two days after a ceremonial opening on 26 May 2006. It is located on the site of the historic Lehrter Bahnhof, and on the Berlin S-Bahn suburban railway.
Lehrter Bahnhof (Lehrte Station) opened in 1871 as the terminus of the railway linking Berlin with Lehrte, near Hanover, which later became Germany's most important east-west main line. In 1882, with the completion of the Stadtbahn, just north of the station, a smaller interchange station called Lehrter Stadtbahnhof was opened to provide connections with the new line. This station later became part of the Berlin S-Bahn. In 1884, after the closure of nearby Hamburger Bahnhof (Hamburg Station), Lehrter Bahnhof became the terminus for trains to and from Hamburg.
Following heavy damage during World War II, limited services to the main station were resumed, but then suspended in 1951. In 1957, with the railways to West Berlin under the control of East Germany, Lehrter Bahnhof was demolished, but Lehrter Stadtbahnhof continued as a stop on the S-Bahn. In 1987, it was extensively renovated to commemorate Berlin's 750th anniversary. After German reunification it was decided to improve Berlin's railway network by constructing a new north-south main line, to supplement the east-west Stadtbahn. Lehrter Stadtbahnhof was considered to be the logical location for a new central station..

That s bahn sound when you just walk in :) brings back some memories
and the endless rows of elevators and stairs, surely take you down memory lane .. lol
@@dadababa1984 yes! I get touched with all these sounds. You both are correct! I knew this station when I was about to head for Munich in 2019. Marvelous morning! Greetings from Rio de Janeiro!
Yes Stan, I can understand you friend!
This was without a doubt one of my favourite places when I visited Berlin. Absolutely loved it.
I simply cannot wait to travel again.
Like me my friend! Like me. Greetings from Rio de Janeiro!!

@@TheRailwayDrone thank you very much for your reply! This video touched my soul. I've been in Berlin for 5 days. And I took that train- the ICE. The tears came to my eyes. Sorry! Good night!
It's more of an airport. Gorgeous Railway Station
What a wonderful way of seeing the world. Thank you so much. Really appreciate your channel!

Wow! wonderful station. I wish i can go there too! thanks for sharing another wonderful video :)
Magnifique. Amazing place. It's on my list must to see in Berlin
Magnificent! Magnificent work my friend! I missed all my moments in that morning in 2019. Daniel from Rio de Janeiro.
Beautiful place I was there in 2012
Great video of this famous station. I think it’s far from being among the most beautiful stations, specially compared to classic icons like Grand Central in NYC or St Pancras in London, but definitely a must visit place if you are in Berlin. So spacious!
it never was supposed to look good, lol... the intention was to erect a big, very functional station as quickly as possible for relatively little money since Berlin was really poor back then and was in the process of rebuilding after the wall was torn down. The classic icons of Berlin had all been destroyed in american and british bombing campaigns, so silly of you.
Funny, as a New Yorker, I immediately compared this to Penn Station. Honestly I'm a fan of Berlin Hbf.
@@samuelitooooo yeah, well Penn Station is hideous (although it’s supposed to become modernized soon). But Grand Central Station still is far superior to Berlin Hbf
Dawg this is literally a cathedral for me
@@willsmithens5529but it does look good 😂
Fabulous station, can't wait to visit soon.
Brings back memories of me checking every floor of this station to find a Berliner donut so I could say I ate a Berliner in Berlin
i have got lots of memories in there
Nice open space station, been there often!

War vorgestern dort beim Tababhaus Durek. Schön zwei kubanische Zigarren geholt. Bahnhof Zoo wird jedoch aufgrund von Loveparade Erinnerungen immer mein Lieblingsbahnhof sein.
amazing content
Great station, only bad thing is the 20 minutes queue for the public toilets

Hi from the airport (Tempelhof) to the city center (Schoeneberg) which train do I have to take? Thanks
Tempelhof closed in 2008. The new Airport ( BER ) is accessible with the FEX from Hauptbahnhof ( track 5 ), Gesundbrunnen or even Ostkreuz. Or you can also take the S- Bahn Line Nr. 9 to BER - Terminal 1 - 2 ( from Hauptbahnhof Friedrichstraße, Alexanderplatz ...). The Airport train station is directley under Terminal 1.
S-Bahn sounds like horror movie scene... )))
Sehr schon

SUPER BAHNHOF,

If you watched this from beginning to end, you've got way too much time 😆

I'm curious why there are not "paying stations" in this station. Is it free to ride these trains? I don't really know how this works because in my country there's only a subway hahahah Btw, this station is extremely impressive and gigantic woah I can't imagine myself in these countries with this marvelous train systems.
You must pay only for train. Train station is for free. You can walk over all 5 floors. 321m long, 46m high, 14 track platforms, 1200 trains daily. 😉
In the trains are usually people which Check if you have an Ticket.
Pretty much the entirety of Germany operates on proof-of-payment, meaning no fare gates, but ticket inspectors instead
If you meant ticket machines, those are scattered throughout the station and the platforms. At 5:06 you can see one on the platform across (note the red/silver box)
EDIT: now that you mention it, I think I've only spotted them on the platforms so far
@@nuvaboy woah that's extremely impressive, culturaly lol. In my country, people evade fares even for the metro and bus.
Once you have mastered your daily journey most of the time will be spent on your chosen cluttered platform. Being so narrow you can feel as if you are walking or standing on a plank. If only it were more like ua-cam.com/video/oDMp2wSS0_U/v-deo.html And on hot days, relief, such as it is, comes from a spray of water. Primitive it may be, but it is welcome.
When I visited in 2018 I was amazed by the size of the station and the variety of different shops. Nice to see in this video some people being bold and not wearing masks whilst walking around.

As train stations go, this is amazing, but it’s a train station

Older stations were way More nicer. New buildings are full of betons and Windows. Looks like hospitals. Somehow too sterile
It is also the Location of this new Station. At the River Spree, next to the Gouvernement District with Reichstag (Parlament) and Kanzleramt (Merkels Office).
It is quite epic there tbh.
But yes the style of the Architecture is this 'german modernity' from the 90s - 2000s
but think it is getting better. Just open a new Castle (!) in Central Berlin (Stadtschloss)..
The older Stations wehre mostley destroyed after the second world war. This is why the bigger Citys in Germany ( Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Nürnberg, Köln and so on ) have many new buildings. But there are also beautyful old ones there are restored.
i was Stolen there by refugees
This is so sad,so sorry about that.
