      Location looks stunning and I absolutely love the newer direction Škoda have taken with the design language at the front.

    I think I was overly critical at launch of this car with it looking like a shortened Enyaq which is a few years old now BUT it actually makes a lot of sense as it is useable and non-gimmicky. Good review Rob!

      It’s just a sensible, no-nonsense family EV that doesn’t cost the earth. It’s very difficult to find any complaints after driving it. Thanks for watching!

    The Cable up there is practical, with one Exception: If it is wet, it will drrip. But on the other Hand, it can dry much easyer,.

      Someone else has already raised this point, but I’m not sure the mesh would allow any water to pass through unless it was completely soaked

    What a fantastic location, car seems pretty good too!

  • @robincarter6537
    @robincarter6537 Місяць тому

    Concern over storage if charging cable. It is raining, you pull into a service station and charge fir say 45mins. Surely the cable will be wet, so when you put it in the netting, it will drip all over the rest of your luggage. Probably not a problem in Mallorca, but on the M6 on a wet winter Wednesday?

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Місяць тому +1

      Rather than you having to have taken everything out of the boot and put into a puddle in the rain while you get the cable out, then the cable going back in under the floor and festering in its own moistness? It's not a perfect solution but it's still a better one

    • @robincarter6537
      @robincarter6537 Місяць тому

      @BuckleUpShow I am considering a move to electric next year, and this car is top of my shortlist, but the EV3 has storage under the bonnet I believe, which seems a more sensible option. Why don't the charging points have the cables attached so you don't have to carry them round with you? After all in an ICE car you don't carry round a hose to fill up?

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Місяць тому

      If you were charging in a service station it's incredibly likely you would be using a CCS DC fast charger, all of which are tethered in the UK. The cable storage shown is only for Type-2 cables, which you're less likely to use for short top-ups due to the charging speeds being lower, AC ones.

      Put your cable first into some water proof bag and then back into netting.

    This car might be my next car same colour same speck.The only thing I can criticise the car for is I dont like is those fake plastic panels on the front wings thankfully not a deal breaker.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Місяць тому

      That’s just some styling stuff car makers do to make things look more SUVish. The rest of the car is quite lovely, though.

  • @hatclub
    @hatclub Місяць тому +2

    Don't forget the glovebox in the UK RHD version will, if previous models of their cars are anything to go by, be a lot smaller because VAG leave the fusebox on the left hand side of the car in RHD models and this takes ~40% of the width of the glovebox away.
    It's also a shame to see it seems they still haven't redesigned the known-bad charger flap locking post, assuming the internals are the same as previous VAG cars (no reason to believe it won't be). Those things were bad for seizing up /before/ they started fitting them on EVs that sit out in all weathers with the flap open.

      I did ask the design team but they couldn’t confirm one way or the other. Hopefully they will see sense this time.

    A very nice review! Of course this can beat some generic Chinese cars. The worshiping of the Chinese is highly exaggerated in general. This car is deliberately stripped of some Škoda personality and made look a little bit boring sci-fi Asian but there's still the Škoda character hiding inside the design.
    It is actually mind-blowing that China - that has run something like capitalism after WW2 for a longer time than Czechia - still has just 50% of the Czech GDP per capita, despite their having a higher average IQ and so on.
    BTW you are already in a minority that says "Skoh-duh". Has someone already bothered you with the explanation that in Škoda, Š is actually a letter that is PRECISELY equivalent to the English SH, no strings attached? The letter and its siblings were introduced by Prof John Huss (the early Czech church reformer later burned at stake for heresy) around 1406-1412 AD. So it's pronounced Shkoda, well, Shkaw-duh with short syllables of equal stress. When the English and others figure out how silly they have been to waste their time with so many digraphs, they will also switč to proper Engliš etc. ;-)

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Місяць тому +1

      I’m very aware that it’s pronounced ‘Shkoda’ but I also don’t say ‘sit-row-enn’ for Citroen. Same way I say Paris, rather than ‘Pah-reee’.

    • @lubosmotl5200
      @lubosmotl5200 Місяць тому

      @@BuckleUpShow Good for you. But the difference is that Czech is phonetically spelled while French is not. So the sound of the Czech words is really primary and if needed, we should really try to persuade you to spell it Shkoda as well, as a matter of translation to English! I really don't want you to violate the rules of English. BTW after 10 years in the US, I honestly have no idea how you pronounce Citroen in English. ;-)

    Why don't you mention Tesla? In terms of competition this is overpriced. It sits extremely close below Tesla while it should be priced similarily to the MG Evs.

    • @BuckleUpShow
      @BuckleUpShow  Місяць тому +6

      This starts from circa £31k, the Tesla Model Y starts from circa £45k, not sure what maths you use, but we consider £14k to be a significant amount of money

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh Місяць тому

      You buy an MG if it floats your boat. However, this Skoda benefits from the decades of R&D that VW have carried out. It will also be far better built than any current MG, and will also drive and handle better.

      We have the Enyaq and the MG4. There is no comparison. The MG is very much cheap and cheerful. This looks very much like the Enyaq but smaller. The engineering will be the same. Quality and well designed.
