    This is so useful if anyone is going to caddie for a summer job. You do half the stuff he does and you'd be considered a good caddie. His best tip, (beside not losing ball!!!!) is how he stands bag up and presents the clubs to player. Always a great sign you have a good guy on the bag. Keep up! Shut up! Show Up!
    Side question. Is Mr. Jones (haha who I'm sure never gets a good lie) wearing shirt with Skanaty Logo? Did y'all loop at their caddie camp? You at NGC in the island now?

    How do you get started to become a caddy? do you have to take a class and test or....

    • @alexanderlegassick619
      @alexanderlegassick619  3 роки тому +91

      Good question, here's a bit of a long-winded answer: When you first start you watch a few training videos, etc, then you get sent out on the course to shadow an older caddie. You follow the veteran caddie and watch, they'll teach you what to do as they do it.
      Then, when you start, you'll be given simple loops, just one bag, or just one cart, for example. You're given a rank, C is the lowest, A is the highest, and then there are the older caddies who don't have a rank, they're basically pros. You work your way up the ranks at the discretion of the caddie master. He knows all the caddies very well and knows their strengths/weaknesses.
      And that's basically it! Caddying is really about getting out on the course and learning hands on, the technical aspect (like giving yardages, reads, etc) can be developed later on with experience.
      All golfers really want is a reliable caddie who is willing to give their best effort.

    Just some random questions, but I'm curious about specific situations. What if they have cart bags, do you just lay em down on the ground? Do you carry wooden and plastic tees and ask their preference? Would you actually rearrange someone's bag if it's outta wack? What do you do if you lost the ball?

    • @alexanderlegassick619
      @alexanderlegassick619  3 роки тому +6

      If they have bags with no stands, see if you can swap the clubs into a bag that does have stands. You can ask the club for a rental bag. If your golfer doesn't want to do that then you'll have to lay them on the ground.
      Don't worry about what tees you carry, as long as you have some. If they prefer one over the other they will let you know.
      If I notice that a few clubs are misplaced I will rearrange them. If the clubs are in some weird formation, simply ask the golfer if it's OK for you to move them around. If they say no, leave them how they are. However, you are the one carrying the bag for 18 holes so you do have a say in that department. You can adjust the strap to be more comfortable, for example. Usually your golfer will ask about the weight of the bag. Be honest and let them know if it's too heavy. There is no reason for you to be carrying a tank on the golf course and most golfers understand this.
      If your golfer hits a ball that you know is gone, signal to them from the fairway with your hand pointing in the direction that the ball went. I didn't show the hand signals in this video but they are very simple if you google them.
      If you lose a ball that went into thick rough or fescue, just say sorry. Losing balls is part of golf, as long as you tried your best to keep a line and find it, don't worry about it. You should always try to find the ball, but ultimately it is the golfer's fault. I mean, if Mr. Jones didn't want to lose a ball today then maybe he shouldn't have hit his drive into the trees! Haha

    • @volcomroofus
      @volcomroofus 3 роки тому

      @@alexanderlegassick619 haha yeah I guess that's right. Thanks for replying. What are your thoughts on someone in their 30's starting to caddie? I'm over my 9-5 and we're looking to move out west to a pretty high brow area with tons of golf courses. Covid has really gotten me to take golfing more serious and I'd love to just spend more time outside and even better, around golf. Money isn't the biggest motivator for me, but I'd hate to take the job away from a young kid that is trying to save for college or something. I figured it'd be a great way for me to get more time on the course, more knowledge about golf, get some local connections, and make some money while doing it.

    • @alexanderlegassick619
      @alexanderlegassick619  3 роки тому +8

      @@volcomroofus You can 100% make a living caddying. You won't be able to make top dollar your first day but that's the reality for any job.
      Living off caddying is pretty common for older guys who still loop. I'd say about half the caddies where I work now are pro caddies who make their living on the course.
      In your case, you have to break into the ranks at a good club
      I'd call every club in your area and ask to speak to their caddie master. Caddies are independent contractors so you don't need to commit to one club, you can get work wherever it's available
      Look for as much work as you can. The most important thing is consistency. If you find a club that pays well and has work for you, always show up early to the loop, communicate with the caddie master clearly, and work hard so that they can rely on you. Caddie masters just want guys they can depend on. If they call you and you show up late or don't show up at all, you'll never hear from them again. It makes them look bad and they need to keep everything running smoothly for the members.
      Hope that makes sense

    • @alexanderlegassick619
      @alexanderlegassick619  3 роки тому +15

      How they do it where we caddie is pretty simple, there's a flat rate per bag and then a tip. It's $35 per bag for 18 holes. An average tip would be between $30-40. Carry two bags for 18 holes, you make $70, add a tip of $40 per bag and you've made $150. That's pretty standard for carrying doubles.
      Obviously the tips vary. Some guys may get a tip in the range of $50-100 per bag, or even more. Some new caddies may get only a $20 tip per bag.
      I remember one of the first loops I did I carried one bag for 18 holes and I made $65. That's a $30 tip, very average.
      Caddying is by far one of the most worthwhile jobs you can have when you're young so take advantage of it!
