Hey guys great video as usual! Hey not sure if you guys know this but to have your settings and image preview always be shown in the EVF - Go to the "Gear" menu, then Monitor/Display 1, then "Constant Preview" - turn that ON! Then you'll see your exposure in real time like you would on Sony. Hope that helps! Not sure why they have that off by default.
Panasonic has delivered an excellent FF first effort. Of course they learned a huge amount with their m43 line. Now we just need more lenses though they seem to have a good start with the Sigma portion of the L cabal.
Which one is fully compatible with ATG, Godox, Jinbei, Interfit, Orlit, Phottix, Profoto and Rollei TTL strobes? Anyone up here to able to take a pop at it, please share.
Guys, wrong info at 7:50. The Panasonic is not the first camera that shoots Video at 4k 60fps. The Fujifilm X-T3 came out in 2018 and does do that perfectly at 10bit.
Since S1R can shoot 6k I would like to ask: if I shoot video /picture without zooming with 6k and crop later, is the quality same as those non-6k shoot with zoom in 100mm or 200mm?
Hey everyone! We are so torn by this comparison! What are your thoughts? And let us know what you think about these models VS their little sibling models the Sony A7 iii and Panasonic S1, from last weeks comparison video.
Yes, in the images, the S1R popped the red. But, which camera shot closer to the actual red in her dress? Without post editing. Everything I shoot is outdoors and moving. Neither of these would really work for me. Plus, I'd have to buy all new glass, or a bunch of adapters. NOT happening. Attend an off-road and a drift event, for a motion/action test. Love to see you guys out there! I was planning on picking up a Canon 7D, once my van is paid off, but WHAT? Not thrilled with the rumor mills vision that the 7D's lifespan is coming to a close. Unless the replacement (90D?) shoots at a comparable frame rate. When a car is going by you at 100+mph, "spray and pray" can be your friend. I was looking at the 7D already, but after researching "best camera for action sports shooting" the 7D was in the top three of almost every "top 10" review. More that any other camera out there. And the reviews were, mostly, recent. So, the 7D wins. For me. My only other, not affordable, option would be get a 6K or 8K video camera and pull stills from that footage. This is MY opinion. Opinions are like poopshoots, everyone has one. :)
Are you sure there is a colour difference!?!?!? It seems to me like the Panasonic is half a stop underexposed vs the Sony. The shade of the red is just darker/lighter. The skintone also appears to be a case of exposure, notice the shadow areas in the eye socket and/or the nostril/chin. The Sony appears to be more accurately exposed (for portraiture purposes in this case).
The problem with your ISO comparison when comparing to their siblings was the siblings were better lit. So of course they'd have a much more favorable ISO results. Here's an example. Look at the left and right. The left is much better light. ua-cam.com/video/oDE2NHsXY9Y/v-deo.html
The Sony A7r Mark IV has just put Hasselblad, Fuji & Panasonic in to Chapter 11. While many Canon & Nikon users are trying to dumb their equipment & jumping to Sony or that Fuji GFX 100. While many beginners & amateurs are upset with Sony. Their A7r Mark III has plumped. Remember, buy a Sony is like buying a German car. The resale values are bad. Lucky for me, I get them free due to freelist for working pro.
Are the images you're comparing jpeg or RAW? If they're jpeg, you've introduced in-camera processing of the images. If they're RAW & you've post processed them, that's not an equal comparison either. Using unprocessed RAW files is about the only way to really do an apples to apples comparison. Interesting video nonetheless.
There is no such thing as unprocessed RAW. Any rendering, even default, introduces bias and taste. The only true comparison is to process either in LR or C1 and aim to equalize them. Only then can you see the differences. In truth most files from any camera can be made to be very similar. What distinguishes them from each other is noise and DR.
When wearing good quality headphones, the sound effect on the many of the wipe-type transitions gets to the point of punishing. My guess is you don't want your viewers starting to flinch at video transitions. Hopefully if you find it necessary to keep using them, you can reduce the audio level by about 80%. On a positive note, one thing I do enjoy about your reviews, is that you don't waste time getting to the image comparisons. For that, much appreciated. As for the cameras, for what the A7r III can be purchased for at certain times of year (below $2500) it looks quite good; unbeatable for the price. I just picked up an EOS R from an authorized Canon dealer for $1800 (and it's currently available for less grey market ) . Point is, price really comes into play, and while I'm really rooting for Panasonic's offerings, the cost of acquisition makes it a non-starter. They needed to pull an A7 III move to get in the game; i.e., over-deliver on the camera (which was pretty much accomplished) and then, release it at a price point that made jaws drop (as what happened with the A7 III). As for the EOS R, there was no way I was willing to pay $2300 when the A7 3 was available for hundreds less, and in some respects, was a better performer. It didn't take long for the street price on the R to plummet. Hopefully the street price of the S1 and S1r will fall in line with their Sony and Canon counterparts, and the market will reward Panasonic for their efforts.
Thank you for the thoughts on the cameras and for letting us know about the swipe sound effects in the video. We have made note of it and will do our best to make sure it doesn't continue. Really appreciate your input and addition and for adding to the conversation.
