In regard to those separations between plies in that cab, it looks more like it wasn't made from void free plywood, rather than a delamination going on there.
Carvin made a lot of interesting and high quality stuff, the V30s in this cab alone make it worth it.
Still using my 2x12 with V30's from 2002 and love it!
I bought one of these 5 years ago and in fact, its my only cab right now (space limitations). I bought it off some kid for only $100. It came loaded with 2 v30s and 2 greenbacks in an x pattern. I soon replaced the greenbacks with G12T 75s as I didnt like how the v30 mixed with the greenbacks.
I have a 2&2 (x pattern) V30 & G12T-75 and it sounds pretty good with my JCM 900 and JCM 2000 but I play pop and skate punk music so it suits me well
I have an engl with 2v30 and 2v60. Always blend the speakers
The Carvin Legacy C412 is the only 4x12 cabinet I have. I paid about $500 for the cabinet to pair with my Omega Granophyre for a Slipknot tribute band. I loaded the with DV-77s to mimic Mick's rig as much as possible but have since restored it to its original Vintage 30s. I am not in the Slipnot tribute band anymore but I love the cabinet. It is certainly bright! \m/
For us Canucks, those cabs still sell for 6-700$. Traynor Cabs are as well built, loaded with V30's and can be split for stereo. Front loaded and can be had for 3-400$ CAD.
Great content BTW
Yeah us Canucks get shafted dollar wise eh
So glad you made a video on this monster. I have the early Greenback (T1221 cones) version. I had on back in the day with the Legacy head and sold it all too a homie. Cheers.
Some wood glue and clamps will do wonders for the splitting by the handle. Great video!
Carvin v3s are also amazing. Even though they come with Chinese v30s, blew my mind when I finally opened mine up a decade after getting it. But they sound great
I've bought one of these carvin 4x12 V30s slanted in 2005 from the store.
Speaker serial code says that they are from January 2003. Lucky me!
I've lately bought a late ninety mesa os cab but this has been and always will be my go to cab. I actually prefer this to the Mesa one.
The fact that it is 16 ohm and front loaded it gives you the tightness and articulation and mid forward that is hard to beat. ❤
love vids man! Ive done UA-cam vids for a long time can not talk in them for sh*t, I like your bloopers they give of good personality
I have the Carvin 412V30 that I picked up for $300 at a used music store. I'm not sure what era my V30s come from but I love it. Such a high quality cab.
I have one of these in my studio. Its owned by Jeff Duncan of Armored Saint who bought it from Jeremy from Lit. It sounds AMAZING!. Great job on this!
Proud owner of this cab. It's a monster and crushes similar 4x12 cabs from Mesa
Damn. That sounds great.
Good to see a 200 series get some love, love my Viper-201B(absolute bargain IMO). That Engl sounds BEAST!
Yep the 16ohm just does it. My favorite impedance.
Mine too
never thought about it, but i have to agree@@jconner3891
Awesome vid! I had one loaded with UK made Celestion G12H-30’s and played an EVH 5150 LBX 15 watt through it and it sounded absolutely crushing.
Love the channel. Stay strong.
Great cab and the matching Legacy head has one of the beast clean tones ever. Of course that is if you want cleans.
I have the older version of that cab, the old Carvin witht the grey carpet. I've had mine since 1990-91. My center brace is bigger and my cab has alot of low end. It has the Carvin version of the V30s. I'd never sell my cab, I'd buy another or the Legacy one.
Maybe squeeze a bunch of wood glue in that crack and put a clamp with a couple of pieces of wood and a large C-clamp and close up that split. Honestly my cab seems a little beefer then that one. The old Carvin stuff is seriously underrated. I have the matching X-50B head with it as well.
Great video question did you ever insulate a cabinet with foam to tighten up the sound or at least the back of the cab where the sound bounces off the wood from the back side of the speakers if you can reply and let me know thanks
This was my 1st real that I got with V30s in them. I mainly used it with my Engl amps over the years until I got a Engl Pro 412. Sounded pretty good with my Fireball 60, Powerball and Savage 120. For the money the Carvin Legacy is a solid cab. Interested in trying one with greenbacks….
Bought mine in the early 2000's. Mine came with Greenbacks. Replaced them with V30's. Mine is 8 Ohm. I don't have a lot of experience with other 4x12's (the only other 4x12 I've owned was a THD, which was clearly designed for a completely different type of sound), but I have never felt the need to replace it with anything else. Paring mine with an Uber and a VH4, and a few other hi-gain amps. They all sound great to me through this cab.
You have an original Legacy cabinet. Kyle's is a Legacy II cabinet.
@@GearBoxTy Other than the speakers, is there a difference?
@@Shmalentine Not that I am aware of other than maybe aesthetics
I have a late 90s Carvin MTS combo (my only tube amp right now). Extremely solid build, loaded with Carvin BR12 speakers (rebranded Eminence GB128's, which are Greenback copies). It's very hot-rodded Marshall sounding (JCM 900, possibly), and takes pedals like pb&j. The speakers are a bit dark at low volumes, but fatten up with nice spongy compression at performance volumes.
Good ole Carvin
Cool video Kyle.
Carvin made good stuff. The current state of the company is pretty unremarkable, but the Legacy Drive preamp is pretty good. I’d like to see you do a video on the Legacy or V3 amps and see what you think. I have a Legacy 3 and run it through one of the Legacy II 2 x 12 cabinets with V30s and the amp has a ridiculous amount of low end. I have to roll the bass down quite a bit and set the mids fairly high to tame it a bit. The Legacy 1 can be had for about $650 or so I think. The Legacy 3 is way overpriced on the used market, going for 50% more than it used to cost brand new.
that ltd Phoenix is dope, and those old carvin cabs are fantastic
Love my carvin 412, b cab with v30's. Did a capture of it for the store. GUTTURAL
I have the straight version. Very aggressive and directional. Feels like a good chunk of the low end is cut off.
Holy cow… I love that cab with the engl!!!
I got one of these for a guitarist, that one had Celestian T75s, I also got him an affordable Rockerverb50 MKI, that Cab only cost $300, but was obviously worth way more with T75s, Sold both for a meth bender. I am Never working with a junkie again. I worked hard to find alll that crap and loan him cash to do so. Saw both for sale online, it sounded amazing too, love T75s for Thrash
You sounded seriously good here, almost too good for Thrash, very refined, like produced and record ready!!
That riffage at 7:38. I was digging it too.
It looks like they put shims between the plies for more support on the handle.
You once mentioned doing a metal with greenbacks video. Would definitely be interested in that if it's still in the cards.
I had the 2x12 and is was amazing! I regret letting it go
Carvin built excellent sounding cabs!
Mmm... November 2000 V30s! I wish these cabs were more common in Europe.
That KSR modded Recto sounded LETHAL through the cab
smoother while still being bright and open , like how I like to EQ my current Vintage 30 :)
I got B52 4×12 400w $155 at GC deliverded. Sounds great good quality.
I just ordered a Belligerent Amateur Hoodie!!!!!! I’m super pumped to be able to toss that bad maamajaama on and feel its power propel my Drop C Hardcore riffs to the next level!!!!!!!!!!
basket-stamped V30s stopped around 2000, so yeah these are the classics
Love these videos but typically speaking videos like these makes the value go up on them. Keep going with these videos.
Can’t believe you played a Leeway riff!! Nice! I always liked the Legacy. That was Leeway, right??
I'd love to hear this cab with the mt100
I used to play in a band that the bass player had one of these cabs and he let me use it. I gotta say that legacy cab was something else! But what I had to compare it to was my old behringer cabs. So of course it sounded godly
I bought one of these new in 2003 because it was the cheapest v30 loaded cabinet available. Fast forward 10 years, and I couldn't give it away.
I sold the speakers, and now the cabinet holds up one end of my workbench.
Looks like that might be 2 5/8" pieces of ply glued together and the glue has failed. Compare the top brace to the split part.
Legacy is pretty awesome they make all kinds of cool audio
Damn, now I want to swap out the greenback I use with my fireball 25. What's the range of years for the best v30s?
That blue Crate cabinet, tho.❤
Carvin Amps, president of amps, pedals power amps, cabs, and various other high quality products have always been top tier Not to mention they re Custom Guitars I believe second to none! I still look for the DC series used to match My likings that someone sold! Kyle! I Love You Brother! Please Do a V3M proper Beligerant Amatuer Video! Thank You! Also huge question! What is the best Rectifier in a Box pedal? I have the AMT R2 now and saw Your Brick series Demo but still not sold! Thanks Man!
I’m thinking between the
AMT R3 Brick Series / Ss 20/ Bulava/ or ss 11.
ISP Theta Preamp
Two Notes Le Lead
Westminster 2716
Nux amp academy or Hotone Ampero or even the Joyo Zombie 2 xl Bantamp. Thanks If You get around to seeing this
I got a 2x12 cab from eBay that sounds good
Damn I once came across one of these for about 280$ in my local store but was just sold to someone else. If I parked and arrived just an hour earlier, I’d have a sweet little 412 with me right now 😅
Someone was selling one locally pretty cheap recently
I think it sounds pretty damn good on both amps.
I have one. Did I miss the catch? Thanks man!
Hell I had a full stack mts3200, 21 years ago....sure gave the jcms a run for their money!😮 Wish I'd have kept it....at least the bottom cab...
I still have my mts3200 and the cab it shipped with.
A little research not long ago made it sound like that mts cab that wasn't the one with V30s had something that was essentially an Eminence Legend. I bought some V30s from a guy who pulled 'em out of a late 90s Marshall cab and dropped them in that mts cab. It sounds good! A little 1.2kHz honky but good overall!
Cab sounds great. I don’t get the v30 hate for the last little while. They’re not boring, they rule.
I like the Mesa better for me, the Engl sounded kinda muffled
Out of curiosity, do you have any experience with the orange crush pro 4x12?
I do. The voice of the word speakers are not bad at all. They were in th3 Jim root cab from orange. Little small than the orange ppc 4 12.
@jconner3891 How would you say they compare to v30s?
Its my favorite.
I don’t like front mounted speakers much… but for the money… those Carvins are solid. Just almost too solid lol. I have found I just like a ratty Marshall cab. They rattle right lol.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for one o' them bad boys
Not a big fan of front loaded cabs outside of looking cool…..but it does sound good
The Engl sounds wayyy better than the Mesa. That's what I thought.
Thought I was alone with that opinion for a minute.
@@DanPellegrino486 I went back and forth and the Mesa sounds like a stuffy nose. The Engl was much more open sounding.
"21 December 2000" Celestion Vintage 30. if i don t say bullshit. Thank you for really intéressant review...!!!
"your grandpa's 40yo leather sofa" that's too accurate 😂
Sounded damn skippy 🤘
Aren’t these poplar, not birch? I have this cab, sounds good right in front but it’s extremely directional so just one step to the side and it becomes meh. The late 90’s smooth telex cabs are better, if you replace the speakers anyway, cuts better in a live mix.
The screws in the handle can tend to break the ply over time. Thats prob what’s going on
opened hundreds of cabs before and never seen this happen. Being that wood is missing from an internal part of the ply, the only way I could see that happening is if it were extremely overtightened at one point
@@belligerentamateur yes, from being over tightened. I’ve seen it on a couple cabs. The ply was fine everywhere else on the cab, it was just where the screws are that inner part of the ply broke loose. I’m sure there are other things that could be at play too, but sometimes these cabs will go to a GC and some worker gets a drill out that the torch isn’t set right, they open it to see what speakers are in it, and then they impact the shit out of the screws over tightening them. Just to me, it seems like that could be the culprit.
It might be ugly but that makes it the definition of utilitarian, which in turn makes it kinda look cool.
Make a drunking game out of Kyle saying "as you can see" and take a shot every time he says it.
Cause entirely to many people hear with their eyes
Agree for the cab...but the amp was...complicated...
Id reckon the other companies stole Dave Mustaines idea of putting mesh on his marshall lineup? Or are they older than that?
I have 2 Carvin 4x12 cabs from 1985 and they have a similar grill. A few different brands did this in the 80's & early 90's. Mesa had similar before the Carvins.
@@acdover That's cool, thanks for the info 🤘
VAI!!!!!!!!!!
Carvin still exists, it's just called Keisel now after the son took over the business.
correct, but they no longer make guitar amplifiers, cabs, live sound equipment, which is what a big chunk of carvins business was.
@@belligerentamateur Yeah, big sad about that. I don't know if you've done a video on it yet, but if not it'd be cool if you did one on the v3m amp, or even the old x-100b tube amp you see dirt cheap out there.
Actually they still distribute live sound, preamps, pedal power amps. Probably made in china.
@@arthurreid6108 I have a V3 from their first release. Great amp. I also have a 1984 X-100B that I bought new and toured with for about 5 years. Those were serious amps back then.
Am I the only one who thinks that when you open an old 20+ years cab, there would be some plague or anthrax inside?
yes
I've found some stoner stashes in cabs before.
I once left a couple cabs in this musty ass basement and the dampness caused mold on the speakers. I didn't realize it at first, and then when I cranked up and the speakers started rattling, they expelled green dust all over my living room ☠️
By the way, what is the "but there's a catch" in the title about? What is it that you dont like kyle?
they're ugly as fuck
@@belligerentamateur yeah agreed! (I saw the video but somehow I missed this). But as long as they sound good we can live with that 👍
😂😂😂😂@@belligerentamateur
🙂🙂😀
Please send me a rectifier.. my dream amp that I've never been able to afford
Sloppy 3rds and happy 😂
You had me until I saw front loaded. And then it sounded all front-loady. It’s not for me. Happy hunting, dudes.
I’m like 137. Do I win?j/k
Totally joking. This cab would be good live.
Dude that sounded like the best your signal sounds. For hardcore at least.
Thanks a lot Kyle! Now every ass wipe out there is going to charge an arm and a leg for these cabs. Don't be a Josh Scott or Brian Wampler!
you've had 30 years to get one on the cheap. not my fault you're slow! 😎
Oh but I wasn't slow! I bought one ten years ago for $250!@@belligerentamateur
*Another everyone refuses to believe is unfortunately the Behringer Ultrastacks that are rated for 400-watts. Whether you get the ones labeled inside as a Jensen MOD 12-110 or Bugera on the sticker, they're both the Jensen MOD 110.*
The secret is, *you bypass the low-pass inductor inside on the jack play and vwahla!, you have something that easily rivals $700 dumped into 4 Celestions.*
Another critical factor nobody wants to employ with cabinets is using a damping material inside. They think it destroys resonance but resonance shatters your sound waves and damping materials becomes another expense from the mfr. in time and money.
*Speakers and pickups are truly the biggest scams in guitar gear, but wtf do I know, I'm just an electrical/electronics engineer which is the most advanced field of science on earth.*
Every software language in every piece of electronics you own comes from my scientific field, and so does your pacemaker, gene splicing devices, electro-chemical processors that produce medications, cutting edge materials and well beyond.
*I'm not saying I'm deeply educated or the best at what I do, but I do know my field really well.*
OMG! my stars and stripes, FINALLY! giving the Legacy some love! it forged the sound of this badass Miami Artist ua-cam.com/video/ZBKIUi1eG1A/v-deo.htmlsi=ppABHgKrRGBvlAfY CC is English! Have a magical day!
