@@TheBacklogs Fun Fact: In DS2 the catalysts are VERY good for bonking damage. Due to how the game doesn't use spell adjust, but instead just gives catalysts a damage AR for each element to pull from for calculations. And it uses that same AR for the bonk damage, so you end up with catalysts with an AR in like the 600s. Sure it is split damage, but it is still CRAZY strong, especially considering the physical part of the damage is blunt which the majority of DS2's enemies are weak too. Even the spell casting shields do ridiculous damage when used in the main hand for bonking. It's certainly a...unique experience, but one I think you'll enjoy.
@@TheValiantBob Ditto on the casting shields! I used the dark one you get in the first dlc to make a Shield Knight cosplay (from Shovel Knight) long ago, and it was stupidly strong and versatile. DS2 might be the least polished of Fromsoft's recent games, but it is second to none for making crazy off-meta builds.
Blue Flame would feel like cheating since it's a sword. He could go with Chime Shield (I think that's the earliest one you can get if it's still in the same place in SoTFS.) Then go pick from either Sanctum Shield or Black Witch Staff both of which has insane bonk damage because of scaling from Magic/Dark/Lightning.
Actually, the iron golem's stagger isn't caused by poise damage--it's just based on regular damage. So the catalyst can still do it even if it doesn't deal any poise damage.
Can we all agree that this is Lemons funniest video? Between the characters inner screaming before the run starts. "Oh uh no thank you" followed by the Crag spider falling. "I'd miss the Leo ring" *Ornstein running* "oh look he knows" "Oh hey God didn't know you were watching the stream" I watch this anytime I need a laugh.
You should try this in Dark Souls 2! There is a sword called the Blue Flame that is a spell catalyst, and a shield called the Chime Shield, which is a miracle talisman! But getting there would be the fun part!

its funny for me to see this video randomly pop up, since this was the first challenge run i ever did. I had just finished the game as a mage, and noticed the weird pokey sticks. Then I thought, welp why not? I did not even know the nightmare that was playing melee after playing a mage, especially with a weaker spear, but hey, it's a fun run. Congrats on the win.
seeing that tin banishment catalyst makes a pretty ok weapon is gratifying to me, as i always thought it looked cool. the chosen undead holds it weird tho
When I watch dark souls challenge videos like "whips only" I comment silly things like "only whips but he uses shield/armor" But this dude is on a whole other level
I can proudly say I voted to not kill Solaire... even tho he gets a very unfortunate fate.... *say what you want, I'm not capable of killing mah boi he helped me too much :(*
You can save him from his fate by ranking up in the chaos covenant and opening the side door and murdering the sunlight maggot before you enter lost izalith the normal route. Instead of having it on his head when you progress through the area normally, he'll be sitting there same as always and chat - and even be summonable for the Gwyn boss fight later.
Looks like you made a build the character from Maschle would come up with and i LOVE it XD Hope theres at least one person here who gets that reference XD.
"i cast stick!" oh, that reminds me of a gag in a silly story: some people were playing D&D. ALL of them were Barbarians. one declared himself a wizard (but didn't really learn any magic), sneaked up on an enemy, and the player said, "i cast sleep." the DM said, "you wave an ordinary stick at him and yell, "SLEEP!" but nothing happens ,except him staring at you in shock. you have one more chance to do something before he sounds an alarm. what do you do?" *I HIT HIM WITH THE STICK* ! that's part of a popular story, "the all-barbarian party".
In my opinion, Manus will always be one of the greatest video game bosses of all time. I have spent so many hours learning his combos, little secrets of where to sneak in a quick hit if your weapon is fast enough, the rhythm needed to dodge his delayed attacks while still being ready for the ones that come out super fast, stuff like that. I spent hours throwing myself at his fog wall both on my first playthrough and my SL1 run and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Honestly, this run was a lot of fun. I would be more than happy to push it forward to the next few games :)
Heretic's Staff tho. It has great range, decent damage and you can get it pretty early on.
"Being naked is pretty uncouth, but so is murder"
"wElL wHaT iS iT?" After Capra.
*COMMUNITY SUGGESTIONS*
Lemon laughing at the golem falling.
"I'd miss the Leo ring" *Ornstein running* "oh look he knows"
"Oh hey God didn't know you were watching the stream"
I watch this anytime I need a laugh.
You should try this in Dark Souls 2! There is a sword called the Blue Flame that is a spell catalyst, and a shield called the Chime Shield, which is a miracle talisman! But getting there would be the fun part!
found your channel today and binged nearly every challenge run already, how is it possible that you have so few subs? with your production quality i would guessed you were at 250k or more.
2:26 punching with the pyro flame actually *does* get stronger when you upgrade it, only the durability is kinda bad
Was just going to say this. A simple look at the wiki or taking any character to see what a max flame vs base flame damage confirms this. Its not much of a boost but its something.
Holy hell, this was so fun to watch!!! Legendary content indeed...! I'm super stoked for this challenge run on DS2 and DS3!
One of the most interesting and fun challenges i've seen about Dark Souls. Thank you, learned a lot and made me laugh along the way :-)
Your continuous disbelief at how overpowered it is early on had me rolling. That is as my exact reaction on my first ever character; didn’t know where I was supposed to be, wandered down to blight town and felt helpless. Found that thing, and have never been quite as glad since to be a sorcerer
Legitimately never would have gotten out of blight town or into dark souls if not for that catalyst. It will always have my love!
I remember going from 7 r1s or four spells to take down an enemy, to one shot killing everything. I suddenly felt like a god!
7:22 staggering the golem actually isn't based on poise damage, but on actual damage. 400 to his leg to stagger him, another 400 to make him fall if he's staggered
9:15 "I'm sure itll be fine."
Those souls over there tell a different story
Having now rewatched the video... What happened with the crystal tin poky stick? Not worth using/getting?
After seeing the massive damage of the demon catalyst, I didn't feel like bothering with Logan's questline. Demon's felt strong enough.
i just realised that the soul of cinder and gwyn have the same death animation, thats pretty sick
I remember finding the banishment catalyst on my sorcery build and being surprised that it did actual damage, i even used it as my main weapon for a while
10:26 wha-, with Astora straight sword +5 i dealt just 127 of damage
(with 30 strength, 30 dex and 30 faith)
Maybe i should change my character main weapon...
I like how he is surprised and a little disgusted by an actually good weapon
Me in challenge run: hmmm , what about sorcery only?
Backlogs: What about hitting everything with a stick?
i know you haven't used it but i remember useing tumblebuffing to do something similar in ng+. Casting crystal magic weapon with a tin crystalization catalyst on the exact same catalyst and then pokeing enemys for 500 dmg despite the stupid looking animation was hilariouse.
I just immediately fell in love with your channel after I heard you use music from bugdom. The game was such a big part of my childhood and had such an iconic score. Glad to see other people who appreciate it too
This is the first vid of yours I've seen time to binge em lol. Also I've never used any of these catalysts I've got to play dark souls more
14:30 Din't even get the quote right. "Ah Kos... or some say Kosm. Do you hear our prayers?"
"As you once did for the vacuous Rom, grant us eyes, grant us eyes. Plant eyes on our brains to cleanse our beastly idiocy."
He's actually the lord of Lightning.
I use the demon's catalyst in a twink build for invading. It's fun to bait people in with soul arrows only to poke them for around 200-300 damage.
Still waiting on ds2 catalyst only run
Love your videos I’ve been binge watching them since I first discovered your channel. Thanks for keeping me entertained these past few days.
At the beginning of this video I was thinking how insane his damage will be when he gets the demon catalyst
Ymfah: makes a 1 int mage
Lemon: hm ok yeah but what if no?
Srsly though, these channels feel like brothers and it warms my dark souls and sanctuary heart
This is amazing man, love it
Keep up the good work
Reminds me of a D&D game where someone played a wizard who got into wizard school on a football scholarship 😂
“Ah, no! My tinnitus!”
- Why I hate kalameet
I remember getting the Tin Banishment Catalist in an early playthrough and dying to the booby trapped super slippery log you have to walk down to get back. I didn't know about the ladder out of that area at the time. And it turned out the thing is really only good for poking stuff. The base sorceror staff is better for almost all applications.
I remember in my first time playing this game I actually ran with the tin catalyst for a fair bit since it looked cool and was on par or better than my weapons (I didn't really get how upgrades and stuff worked haha.) Was cool to see it come up on a channel I like
2:55 Eleven years later only just pegged the Int symbol is a candle not a rifle round
Lmao ye I remember hitting an enemy with the tin catalyst for the first time and instakilling them
that was an absurd amount of damage.
like so many of these runs have crap damage with intended weapon usages but some guy at FS was just a big fan of pointy dumb sticks
Animal Crossing music goes well with literally everything.
I don't think gaping dragon has ever been an actual challenge in one of your, well, challenge runs.
on a technicality I think you also could've used the dark hand because i think in the code it counts as a catalyst
no it cant cast spells
That's only in ds3 iirc
damn, im interested to see Lemon go for a run of dark souls or S&S using everything he's learned to see just how powerful he could become. the "3 hits or less" challenge, if you will
Now this is what i've been waiting for...
Idc what people say the tin banishment catalyst in the right hand and parrying dagger in the left hand is the most OP intelligence build
Considering everytime I play DkS1 I punch the Asylum Boss to death, it'd be faster to me with stick :P
One of those random recommendations that were actually good.
Dig the commentary, it's fun.
3:18 what did I do? WHAT DID I DO!?!?
I love every playthrough inevitably hearing “Time to separate the wheat from the chaff” as he approaches O&S.
Now let's be fair, Gwen is literally burning himself as fuel, if he didn't burn well he would make terrible fuel.
These videos are all over my home page and I’ve watched every single one that popped up
For reference since plenty of people seem to get it wrong, and that for at least some of those it's probably not just a joke :
Gwyn is not weak to fire, Gwyn has fairly high resistances overall including to fire, 249, for comparison seath, sif, nito, smough, firesage (firesage is not weak to fire, that's a myth, it's actually its highest resistance), four kings and gaping dragon all have smaller resistances to fire.
In fact aside from DLC bosses and the members of izalith's family who are immune to fire, Gwyn has one of the highest resistance to fire in all the game.
I've not looked for every boss but the only ones I found with a higher resistance than him are ornstein (both phases) and iron golem.
What is true however is that he is least resistant to fire... By about 20 points, 267. Considering how defense work in DS that's not insignificant but it's also not a huge difference.
its funny for me to see this video randomly pop up, since this was the first challenge run i ever did. I had just finished the game as a mage, and noticed the weird pokey sticks. Then I thought, welp why not? I did not even know the nightmare that was playing melee after playing a mage, especially with a weaker spear, but hey, it's a fun run. Congrats on the win.
Technically, you are using the "Hitting it with a stick" spell
Swinging is a somatic component for casting the spell, but it has to make contact for the spell to resolve
seeing that tin banishment catalyst makes a pretty ok weapon is gratifying to me, as i always thought it looked cool. the chosen undead holds it weird tho
When I watch dark souls challenge videos like "whips only" I comment silly things like "only whips but he uses shield/armor"
But this dude is on a whole other level
Lord of Cinder is like the dragon-type from pokémon: he's weak to his own power xD
**BONK**
I did not expect to hear a song from Bugdom in the beginning but here we are, good selection btw that song is incredible.
In Dark souls 2 my staff breaks in 6 hits lol
Ah, I figured this would be the real challenge. Looking forward to it haha
This channel makes me so happy when I’m down
I can proudly say I voted to not kill Solaire... even tho he gets a very unfortunate fate....
At least someone else knows about how good early tin banishment catalyst is now.
At least it's... something... for early sorcerers.
I-wha-huh? Look, I knew Dark Souls made no sense, but the lack of sense here is so bad it lapped itself.
Ha ha
Lapp
Maybe someone mentioned it but, for the centipede that unlock the bonfire in the demons ruin, you can stand on its left and he want hit you.
I love how he almost kills Solaire for his armor when he had the crimson set from when he got the tin banishment catalyst
As soon as you started I knew the tin banishment catalyst would get you excited. Its pretty damn good.
Looks like you made a build the character from Maschle would come up with and i LOVE it XD
Hope theres at least one person here who gets that reference XD.
Tin Banishment Catalyst was the star of my first run. I was so thrilled to have a stabby spellstick.
18:28 I mean, lord of cinder, he's the lord of BEING on fire. nyek nyek
"i cast stick!"
oh, that reminds me of a gag in a silly story:
some people were playing D&D.
ALL of them were Barbarians.
one declared himself a wizard (but didn't really learn any magic), sneaked up on an enemy, and the player said, "i cast sleep."
the DM said, "you wave an ordinary stick at him and yell, "SLEEP!" but nothing happens ,except him staring at you in shock. you have one more chance to do something before he sounds an alarm. what do you do?"
*I HIT HIM WITH THE STICK* !
that's part of a popular story, "the all-barbarian party".
This dude's video quality is better than people with 10x the subs.
That pokey catalyst you get from blight town is a beast starting weapon
I will now try a build idea with only catalyst and thank you for this video.
