The creepy Paul Bearer character was really one of the reasons why Mark and Glen were so successful with their respective characters. RIP William Moody and thank you for your services
The Undertaker character needed Pall Bearer in the beginning. In fact, without Pall Bearer character, I bet there is probably a chance the gimmick doesn't work. Life is crazy like that sometimes.
Yes, those two put on such a good show that we would have watched if Taker didn't even wrestle. It was like the wrestling match was a subordinate attachment to the real show.
As a kid, Paul Bearer terrified me more than The Undertaker himself. I love watching those old clips now - Over the top… completely ridiculous… and 100% awesome 😂
He cracked me up as a kid.😅 The Undertaker never scared me. See I remember when The Undertaker was Mean Mark Callous, Paul Bearer was Percy Pringle, and Stone Cold Steve Austin was known as Stunning Steve Austin. All in WCW. Yeah I go that far back..
@Krobus yeah, but we grew up in the best era to be a kid, the '80s. And the best decade to be a teenager, the '90s. So I'm happy were I am right now. The best of both world: old school and new school, snuggled right in between.
I loved him as a kid. I was a fan of Addams Family movies and Munsters so always had a love for horror and the macabre. He was definitely one of the creepiest characters.
Much love to the spirit of paul bearer guy sold that creepy gimmick just as good as taker did. Without paul, taker and kane would've had no heat. Guy was a genius as a manager
According to his bio on wikipedia,it says he served for 4 years in the United States Air Force in the early 70's; during this time he wrestled for independent promotions during off-duty hours.
Mr. Bearer was such a sweat person and always told it from the heart. He will always be the best on screen manager and the best off screen manager. RIP Sir. I hope you are Resting In Peace.
He hates the label but many put him in par with The Undertaker... I was a huge fan of Paul. I sent him a message once and he thanked me for his kind words. No manager like him in my opinion...
I liked him. He is among my favorites. My favorite of all time though was Ernie Roth aka Abdullah Faruq aka (this one you’ll probably be more familiar with) The Grand Wizard of Wrestling.
Undertaker & Paul Bearer is the best performer/manager pairing that I have ever seen since I laid my eyes on wrestling. Mark and Paul, you guys made each other look like legit superstars. . RIP to Percy Pringle/Paul Bearer.
aside from Jimmy Hart-Honky Tonk Man, Percy / Paul Bearer-Undertaker were my favorite manager and wrestler tandem. There's a video of their first WWE match and Brother Love asks "what is your first name?" Percy deadpans "Paul" in a spooky voice. I start laughing because he just knows him as the Bearer'. Amazing presence. R.I.P Percy.
Can also thank Rick Rude for being a part of the Undertaker legacy. Crazy how those things happen. No one becomes that successful alone. A lot of key things came together for all of them to be so successful. One of the great characters in the history of wrestling. Percival “Percy” Pringle III and Paul Bearer. Miss those times dearly. Thank you Mr Moody for your service and your entertainment.
Got to hand it to Vince. The guy is a genius. He came up with so many incredible personas. Paul and Taker being amongst the best. What an amazing run they had.
I do agree he does have some good ideas but I would say it's the person playing the role that is the real genius. I mean anyone in theory could have been cast as The Undertaker but only Mark Callaway could do it justice it could have been so easily a failed gimmick. Same with Paul Bearer no one else could have made the character work so well.
