  • I ran the NYC Half Marathon and oh boy! This was a race for the books. This course is absolutely EPIC. I also pulled a 5k PR at the end of it (25:30 when my best STANDALONE 5k is 25:50) without even intending it, since I was treating this as a training run.
    I think I am ready to slay April Fools in AC in two weeks!

    Great racing and excellent filming, Suz!
    I wanted to say you couldn’t have asked for better conditions, but that opinion was formed while watching in a balmy 73°f office.
    I suppose it could have been slightly warmer, especially considering the water was freezing at the aid stations! 😂
    Also, I was slightly worried when you threw away your layers so early because I figured you’d be freezing at the end of the race, but it appears this wasn’t your first time in cold weather and you thought to pack another jacket for the finish. Good thinking! 🧠
    What a gorgeous course! After watching I can say this race is definitely on my list!
    What an ideal training run to set you up beautifully for the AC HM! 💪🏽

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  Рік тому +3

      Yes. There was even black ice on a portion of the FDR and they were asking runners to be careful.
      I LOVED this course. It is so much better than the marathon in my opinion. It goes through so many highlights of Brooklyn and Manhattan!
      And that yellow jacket is 50% down and it comes with a bag where you can put it and compact it nicely with a drawstring. It fits perfectly in a checked bag with plenty room to spare for other items. It's a gamechanger.
      Thanks for posting Matt, and for watching the vid twice 😀

      @@IRunThings So THATS what is was! 😂 As I was running through that section I could feel my feet very slightly slipping (I was about an hour ahead of your group) and for a moment I thought I was slipping in Gatorade or something (just very slight movement under foot) and just kept my pacing very small, then after 20 seconds or so it was ok. Odd as it was in the sunshine, not shade but there was fluid everywhere from the water stops and I guess the cold concrete just started to freeze the fluid over. Great video, and well done. I travelled from a little island called Guernsey to take part. I’ve done some lovely events in the UK (most through London) but New York was very, very special. Also it’s nice for a half marathon to get a cool route. A lot of them always seem the get the poor deal compared to the full marathons (most of the Rome Half Marathon for example is through a business estate! 😂). Well done again and great video! 👍🏻

      NYC is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. And humid every day of the year 😀 what are you running here? The marathon in November? The marathon is hit or miss, same as the Half in March. You have to keep checking the weather and even then it might change on you the morning of and do a 180.

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  Рік тому +2

      It is the best half marathon course I've run on -so far- in terms of highlights. Even better than the Disney Half. And usually they get more spectators, with the wind it felt like 15F and there was black ice in some parts. Water was semi frozen in some stations... so naturally there were not many people braving the temps. But the crowds were FANTASTIC.

    What an amazing course and good job turning your race into a video! Epic!
    I was worried when you threw away the jacket because of how cold you’d be at the finish but I guess you used bag check for your yellow puffer!
    Frozen water at the aid stations!! What? Insane!
    This looks like a must-do race! Running over the bridge and through Times Square looked like an amazing experience!
    Solid running, Suz! This was a perfect training run for you to enjoy the whole event! 🎉 It was extra special you recorded them calling your name at the finish! 🎤 🏃🏻‍♀️💨

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  Рік тому +3

      Yes. That yellow puffer is 50% down so it's quite warm and it fits pretty much anywhere. It comes with a tiny drawstring bag that keeps it very compact. I usually keep it in the checked bag when it's cold
      Thanks for watching Matt and being the first. This is an epic epic race!! So much fun and I learned a lot about myself. For example. I learned that if I don't pay attention to the watch I run pretty fast! I clocked a 7:15 and a couple of barely over 8 min miles at the end! When I was going uphill on 7th Avenue towards Central Park. I have NEVER run that fast, not even in a standalone mile.

  • @twold4this
    @twold4this Рік тому +1

    I loved that!
    First: the Go2 is a fantastic, simple piece of kit... but this X3 is a different class! Vivid - Times Square with its huge screen video advertisng and the view from Brooklyn Bridge were particularly outstanding.
    So immersive! I felt as if I was by your side (where's my medal 😄?) + great audio.... Wow! I WANT ONE... 😁
    You were spot on - as you said *a training run* but negative splits for your 5ks and you were overtaking so many folk by the finish 👍 always a good sign of precise pacing.
    Again top running!

    • @IRunThings
      @IRunThings  Рік тому +1

      Yes. I agree re: go2 and X3. I carried my Go2 with me just in case because I am very familiar with it and I wasn't sure if the battery in the x3 would hold on given how cold it was. But I filmed everything on the X3 with battery to spare and room to spare. It's fun to edit on it too. Every video basically turns into multiple videos because it films 360 degrees around you.
      And I was happy with my pacing. I think given how I was feeling I could have run this in my 1h57 goal, even with the hills. I was reigning myself back the whole race except after Times Square. Then I was so happy running i wasn't even looking at the watch.
      Thanks for watching and for your support 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

That's a huge deal for me especially when my legs are almost ready to drop off. But then I'm a lot heavier and I really feel every foot of up or downhill. I do think that the tendency of experienced runners is to start too slowly in a 5k, compared to beginners who start way too fast and blow up right away. I wondered that same thing but my fastest miles started on 7th Avenue and that is all uphill. There is a tiny downhill that lasts maybe 400 meters in Central Park and that's already mile 12 in the race but because I ended up really doing almost 14 miles on my garmin it's already mile 13.

      @@IRunThings It terrific that you were able to do that, however it happened. It seems like something you can build on now that you've experienced it. I can't wait to see what you do in the next one, "the real one."😆

      That’s the second most important thing. The most important thing is always being first in arbitrary contests that no one knows they’re entered in. 😂
