Dr. Henderson has been studying hereditary disorders of the connective tissues with high risk of AAI for decades. Over many years, Dr. Henderson and others were able to come together and convince the medical community of the importance of deformative stretch as a cause of neurologic deficit. In this Ask the Expert, Dr. Henderson walks through his latest paper on "Craniocervical Instability in Patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes: Outcomes Analysis Following Occipito-cervical Fusion".
Dr. Henderson reviews, in detail, the criteria of instability, shows examples of post-traumatic craniocervical instability, and stresses the importance of understanding the clinical picture, not just reading imaging, etc...Henderson also shares suggested imaging and measurements required for diagnosis and the reasoning for each.
