Tip to explore under water ruins. Bring lanterns. They will help light up the area. They will show you which areas you had already explored if there are several ruins are bunched close to each other or if you travelling over the water via boat or elytra. Plus you often get coal and iron in loot chests in the ruin. Crafting lanterns is quite easy.
Splooting is such a good word, it's mostly associated with dogs, like corgis, that do it relatively often due to their short legs. It's always so surprising to me how large the adult sniffers are! They're such chunky guys.
I really hope Mojang puts more creatures like this in Minecraft, I love the idea of prehistoric animals in Minecraft and giving them purposes, no matter how mundane
Pitcher pods and torchflower seeds are treated as crop (or crop-like) blocks and do indeed use the same growth speed modifiers as other crops. (i.e. farmland around = good, hydration = even better, planted in diagonals or crossing lines = bad) Breaking them before they are full grown gives back the seed (that wasn't mentioned in the video), but once they are fully grown and broken, you get the flower item, which interestingly represents a completely different block type. (Those place on- or two-tall flowers.) Fun fact: The Pitcher crop block is currently the only block in the game with a collision box that extends below the 1x1x1 cube it was placed in, similar to how fence and wall blocks extend above. Unfortunately the collision only extends into the farm land, and the pod can't exist without that, so it's less exciting than in the snapshot where it was introduced.
Another fun thing I've learned over the weekend: Farmer villagers will pick up and plant nearby torchflower seeds and pitcher pods, but they won't harvest either of them.
I found 2 different warm ocean ruins about 200 blocks apart from each other and found 3 sniffer eggs in each ruins. It was very cool and I enjoyed today's episode of talking about the sniffers.
The progression and dependency required to breed a pair of sniffers is great - eggs in the right structure in the right biome, allowed to roam on the right blocks, then only breedable using the product of their activity once they're grown. Takes dedication and patience.
I'm a pretty experienced Minecraft player, but I still love watching these videos because it's fun to see the progress of this world and I do occasionally learn something new!
I love these guys! I wish they dug up some more types of ancient seeds, another crop food would be cool. But they're cute enough that I'll just keep them around for pets, and the two flowers they have now are still nice.
Love the little snifflets! After an inordinate amount of searching for sniffer eggs, I was able to build a decent torchflower seed/pitcher pod farm using allays and a noteblock collection mechanism. Oh boy, the groaning gets intense once you have any number of sniffers in one place tho 😂 thanks for the great episode Pix, looking forward to the next!
Splooting is also a term used for when dogs lie down with their legs out to the side like the sniffer. My dog does it alot. Great vid, learned more than I thought I would :)
Tip to note for Sniffer Eggs in the future from the Warm Ocean Ruins, there is actually no difference in terms of structure shape, you get the same loot tables as even the small Warm Ocean Ruins. It is just that you're most likely to get the common loot of Coal and Wooden Hoes more often than Sniffer Eggs and Pottery Sherds. There is a *13.3% chance* of getting 1; Coal, Emerald, Wheat, Wooden Hoe or Gold Nugget per Suspicious Sand Block. There is a *6.5% chance* of getting 1; Pottery Sherd (Angler, Shelter or Snort), Iron Axe or the Sniffer Egg per Suspicious Sand Block. This is slightly annoying because there is likely a Sniffer Egg in one in every 15 Suspicious Sand Blocks compare to getting an Emerald one in every 7 to 8 Suspicious Sand Blocks, and if you think Bedrock Edition has different loot tables, nah... they're the same as Java, even down to the Loot you find in their Chests. The only real difference between Bedrock and Java is pretty much where and what type is generated, the larger clusters of the Ocean Ruins seems to appear more frequent on Java than Bedrock... but don't take my word for it. If there is one thing that Bedrock does WAY better at in terms of structures, it is that we get *MORE Buried Treasure Chests* than Java. Just look up a Bedrock seed on the Seed Map and you'll see a noticeable difference. A lot of these are in close proximity with each other on land. It is quite comical but also equally rewarding because you'll be walking home with LOTS of loot with plenty of Heart of the Oceans than you know what to do with them. It is something that a lot of Bedrock players overlook since they don't check their seed on the Seed Map website which I highly recommend marking down certain co-ordinates for certain structures like Villagers, Woodland Mansions or Ocean Monuments, Trail Ruins, Jungle Ruins and even Ancient Cities if you haven't found any yet. Who needs a Buried Treasure Map on Bedrock Edition. The only real annoying thing that Java is better than Bedrock when it comes to structures is that Java gets more Nether Fotresses than Bedrock. Bedrock has a hard time finding those while on Java, you're like not even a couple of hundred blocks to find them. Admittedly, Bedrock does not have a limit in Stronghold Generation compare to Java, so that evens out.
I found 4 of my 5 sniffer eggs in small outer buildings in the ruins, 2 of which were out of the water - found two eggs in one of them! I think it's about a 6% chance of getting them, but it seems entirely random which buildings you get them in. Took me about 6-7 hours to find the first one (including flying about trying to find the ruins), but then found two more really quickly after that, and the other two I found by random chance as I was flying past a jungle looking for something else and noticed a ruin on the cliffs by the ocean 😄 It can take a while, but it's worth it, they're so cute! Edit to add - I found night vision potions really helpful when exploring underwater!
Love the videos as always Pix! It is always a great start to my day and I'm glad you have your computer back :) I was casually listening so I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but sniffers can only find seeds once in a block. This means in the enclosed space they're in, they will stop finding seeds at one point or another. Good luck sniffing folks!
I just updated from 1.18 to 1.20, it's like you always know when I do something big and need your help. As excited as I am about finally getting to explore ancient cities and trail ruins, I don't think anything will compare to seeing a sweet berry bush for the first time since I started this world in 2020 because there wasn't a taiga in my 2500x2500 exploration boundry.
I feel like they should really change the texture of suspicious blocks to be more noticeable, I get what they’re going for but for people with bad eyesight it can be really hard to distinguish, especially since the loot is pretty average
Is it just my bad luck or are warm ruins far less common than cold ones? It literally took me 3 hours to find 2 sniffer eggs. Also there's a little stutter in the video at 27:35
Saw in Bedrock that if you keep the Sniffer attched to a lead on a fence they will ignore the mechanic of rembering the last 20 blocks they dug in. That way you can keep them in a much smaller area
Content suggestion: could you build an auto-offloader for the raft that transports the items in the chest so you don’t have to go back to the boat once you’ve emptied the character inventory?
"Welcome back TO the Minecraft Survival Guide, I hope you're all having a good day..." I actually wasn't, up until I just watched the latest episode and now my day is much better! 🥰
Sandstone ruins generate in lukewarm oceans, too. I suspect not every ruin you explored was in a warm ocean and as far as I know, sniffer eggs can only be found in warm oceans not lukewarm oceans
Poor luck on the sniffer egg drop rate. I had six by the end of a small excursion. I did find that beached underwater ruin also. If you dig down into the ones with granite trim, they have chambers underneath, some of which has suspicious sand like a desert temple. Depends on the generation and how much stone takes over the ruin I suppose. Great vid, I’m enjoying playing the same seed.
Yey another episode! Thanks pix! Whenever I hear Sniffler sounds I confuse them with the sounds my belly makes, and have to approach the phone to my ear to make sure everything is okay
Sniffers are just so cute, I have a huge paddock of almost 20 of them and a big greenhouse for their flowers in my most recent world. One of the best creature additions to Minecraft, honestly.
I'm glad there weren't any nether regions mentioned in this video. Also I hope pix uses mud and hoppers! Would be a lag machine but it's silent 🤣. Also I wonder if you can shear the plants to stop their growth like you do vines? I haven't played 1.20 yet 🤣
Hey Pixl, great to see you found the sniffer eggs, it toke me and me daughter a while to find them as well and have breaded 4 sniffer. Thanks for the eps and can't wait to see the blacksmiths house. Till next time Cheers
Awe I absolutely love the sniffer!! I hope there will be some more plants for it to sniff up in the future. Something else that I’ve seen with sniffers is that they tend to follow the player around even if they don’t have their favorite torchflower seeds! Love that for them
First time i saw a Sniffer, it struck me that thier nose looks just like that of a "Honey-Monster" head! (as in the old Sugar-Puffs Advert!!). I honestly cant un-see that now!! Much the same as the Llama's head!, it's nose looks just like a smilie-mob-head! 😃😃
I didn't see anything that supports hydrating farmland with water for the Torch Flowers and Pitcher Plants. But you may be able to use String or Shears to limit their growth. Not sure if that works though, so give it a trial.
i must have gotten very lucky because as per your advice i expected to be out in the warm oceans for a while but after my first large ruins i came back with three eggs!
You can actually see what is in the sand before you get done and if its not something you want then you can just break it with a shovel or something. That way you don't clog your inventory with useless items youll just get rid of later on
I’m so excited to find a sniffer! Our server just reset so I’m only just starting to explore 1.20 now. I definitely need to get some water breathing, was trying just magma blocks and it’s very tedious
I will say, beware of the Sniffers enormous hitbox, they have a way to get on top of fences so make sure theres nothing close to the fences otherwise they just walk out of the fenced areas!! Ive found so many escapes sniffers just walking about my base!! And beware of endermen leaving blocks near your fences!!
What if the ocean ruins weren't a farming society that sank, but a society that used to actually farm the ocean floor? And the reason there are more drowned there is because they succumbed to the zombie plague?

I have only searched a few warm ocean ruins but I have found that if I dig down under the first layer of sand inside and one row around, I always find more sus sand. This is on bedrock though so 🤷♀️
It's mental to me, that you go through all that, going to all those monuments, making potions, ect, breeding, waiting hours. For what? Two flowers with no use other than dye? As if you'll even use that use considering it takes that long to get them. They are nice flowers, but not adding any use what do ever? Could have made the flowers have coloured lighting, could have done literally anything with them. Seems like a lot of effort to get two flowers.
It’s been awhile since I’ve checked out this channel(only cause I wasn’t playing Minecraft for some time) I’m so glad to see this channel having grown so much 🙏 very well deserved
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or my game is bugged, but when I try to brush suspicious blocks the brush animation goes much faster, the block breaks without dropping anything, and my brush’s durability doesn’t decrease. Is there a right way and a wrong way to use the brush on a suspicious block? After doing this several times, I checked Mojang’s bug tracker and found a similar report of this situation and added my experience to it.
it'd be cool if in a future update sniffers who you've bred had a small chance, maybe like 10% to have infertile eggs which never hatch thereby giving you the sniffer egg as a usable block. or perhaps giving the sniffers a particular food item (mushrooms, spiders eye, poisonous potato etc) in addition to the food they use to breed would produce infertile eggs. just a thought.

That's a good idea, especially if you haven't gathered a supply of glowstone or shroomlights from the nether.
Also some ruins spawn with sea lanterns which you can mine to take with you to other ruins
I read: "Bring interns." 😅
Genuine question: can lanterns be waterlogged on java? (I have no idea)
I used jackolaterns😂

fun fact you actually can keep pitcher pod in their ‘turnip’ form by placing string above it
Came here to say this
It’s a shame it only works on the first form 😢
I think it can still grow to the second form, since that’s still 1 block tall. However, it won’t go further than that.
came to comments to say exactly this! hoping pix sees this comment!
Another fun thing I've learned over the weekend: Farmer villagers will pick up and plant nearby torchflower seeds and pitcher pods, but they won't harvest either of them.
I think it would be cool if you could use beeswax on the eggs to “preserve them in amber”
Yes this would be amazing and fits with the theme!

If you put a piece of string over the pincher pod, it will be frozen at the single block stage.

for the pitcher plant try a piece of string in the block above the farmland ? because is a two tall flower ?
I love this series. Trying to make my own now that I have java
Use sting on patcher plants before they are 2X high and it will stop the growth at the the last 1X high stage.
Grian was stopping the pitcher plants in a kind of 'large turnip' form by placing a string over them.
I guess in real life you would find truffles in mycelium, maybe Mojang are thinking of possibly future TLC for the pig?
