I just saw an ad online for this board and started looking for reviews. This is the only one I saw but it's a great thorough review on top of being early. I think I'll have to get this board just because of the omnipoint switches I've been wanting to try.
This is nice for people who don't already have an apex pro. But for people like me who already own one, it's not really an upgrade. But you'll love the omnipoint switches
been watching for awhile but subbed because he went ham on their pricing - mad respect, thanks brother
IM SO. HAPPY IVE BEEN WAITING FIR THIS FOR YEARS
I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. FINALY!!!!
LOL you waited for a crappy generic looking 60% keyboard, looks like all the cheap bopard you can get off Amazon nothing special about it that makes it stand out exept for the switches.
@@Sonicorp here's the kicker, its not a cheap generic keyboard xD
@@WolfAvid I know just the looks of the board looks so generic nothing special about the case,
I would love to see a comparison between this and the Wooting 60HE.
Although it's not wireless (something I would never use anyway), the plethora of new features at a lower price point have me hooked.
even if you were to ignore the custom keyboard scene, paying $240 for a 60% is still insane, especially considering the tkl and full size offer more features and actually have the same amount of omnipoint switches, with the rest being dirt cheap renamed gaterons(?) for less money
i am in the enthusiast scene, but still enjoy the different innovations in the prebuilt market. the omnipoint switches were an innovation, but only insomuch as bringing old technology into the modern spotlight. they were a big deal, but with more companies doing the same thing - and better in the case of wooting - this board is very expensive for what it is
Yea the value of the sentiment is just really poor on this board, its what I've been saying on Steelseries official trailer for the board, someone called me "poor" 😂 which just shows people will buy anything these days.
first time seeing a keyboard enthusiast not being a supremacist over prebuilt keyboard . but for real though , i'm in to customs but for 240$ is a bit too much for a bit of advantage in games is too over-kill when the wooting 60 exists . If i were to buy a prebuilt for gaming (which i will) , i would rather go with akko's or hyperx's prebuilts.
For the whole fortnite scene where all the pros have mained the apex pro for the past 2 years (even I am typing on an apex pro tkl rn) the apex pro mini fails to beat the wooting 60 he (which is priced at like $175) and has a faster actuation, and more useful features like analog movement and rapid trigger. I'm getting my wooting 60 he in about a week
@@Bruh-cj8pt every custom in the past year has just been a foam-filled, gasket-mounted box.
it's not like customs sound much better without all the gratuitous amounts of foam and lube at this point anyway. it honestly makes me sad to see the enormous amounts of foam, plastic bags and industrial lubricants being used for just a hobby
i personally use a hyper x alloy origins 60 for gaming. yeah the stabs are ass (they are really bad), but it sounds great otherwise
@@fnpleo the funniest thing is that the switches wooting uses are just modified omnipoints (correct me if im wrong tho)
the star bit, is torx, and torx is used cause it allows machines to put on more precise torque, while also using less of a motor and power to screw stuff in, more area where the bit touches the screw, eqals less power needed for same torque thats why they are called Torx cause Torque
Love the pocket operator in the background
Your like the best at mice, keyboard, and headset reviews. Keep it up... Also would love to see a review of the Razer deathstalker v2
Nice review Frank as always sir!!!
I am beyond hype for this, was wishing for tkl wireless but this is even better!
the keyboard looks good but without the setting screen (whatever u call it) changing the settings will be more normal and thats what made the apex pro and apexpro tkl pretty unique
Fr bruh this is just a cash grab prodycr
LCD screen is useless... XD
@@ricardofragosobarreraaddy OLED
@Dizza speak for yourself, I literally just bought this for the little gif I could put on the screen
@@sully5494 thats really retarded
That volume knob that you mocked up looked pretty sweet. I say like you they should have added something cause just looking at it top down, It could be a Red Dragon or any other generic OEM keyboard.
You should really review the Wooting 60he! would be awesome to see your opinion on it
great review Frank, that's why we love your reviews. Always honest 👌
The OmniPoint switches aren't optical like the Razer Huntsman or Corsair OPX. They're magnetic hall effect, which is a different technology all together.
The wired ones are GH60 universal case compatible. 5 of the 6 holes line up. They did that on purpose for customization. These are not optipoint switches(optical), they are the OmniPoint switches that are Hall Effect (Magnetic). The switches are removable/replaceable however you have to unsolder the led leads that are independent of/for each switch. The keyboard layout is even a standard for 60% keyboards. The case lines up and works for the wireless in all but the selector switch for the wireless. It wouldn't be difficult to customize that either to be fair. I'm pretty sure there is already switch mods available for other wireless models. It would just require a slot to be make. For someone that is capable this keyboard can be very personalized with a soldering iron and atients.
This mistake kinda ruins this whole video for me. I HOPE that he just made a verbal mistake and actually does understand the differences between hall effect and optical switches, but if not it kind of makes me nervous about his videos going forward. I would really love a video that explained that either he didn't know the difference but has researched it and now he does and explain that, or say he just made a verbal mistake and meant hall effect switches and that he does know the difference.
Hate it didn’t come out in white too. Does anybody know if the Prism white caps would fit this board so at least I can pretend it’s white? Also would you recommend spray painting the body in white as well? May be something I will be looking to do if that doesn't interfere with the switches etc.
Damn, definitely not a necessarily bad keyboard. Though the main reason why I personally bout an Apex Pro TKL were the switches, AND the ability to change everything from the on-board screen. While this does provide the great omnipoint switches, the lack of anything else and the insane price point makes this a confusing buy.
Great review nonetheless!
Because it's wireless. I would have considered a 65%, not 60%. I have 2 Apex PRO TKL but no longer use them cause I'm tired of wires.
@@BrawndoQC imo if its not artisanish keyboard it has to be wireless. Its 2022 come on
It’s the fastest keyboard but idk if you bought it for gaming cuz that’s what it’s made for
I hope they make a apex pro 2.0 with the new switches, pbt keycaps, wireless, and some other updates. I also hope to see a 75% layout
this aged well
@@Pundah indeeed it did lmao
Wow this was a perfect prediction lol
I'm owning an Apex Pro TKL, I still think it's taking a big space on my table. Will take a look at this one.
At first I was excited at the prospect of a wireless keyboard from steelseries but I think at that price point I’d rather finally take the dive into making a custom keyboard like the Keychron or GMMK
qqk65
I don’t recommend customs at all they are a placebo in gaming so unless you type 60% of the tile you use your computer which idk why you are even looking at steelseries if you do. But unless that’s the case customs are a big waste of money. That’s just my opinion thought if you look up Kariyu he used to have a $500 custom and dropped it for a $130 hyperx tkl. He used the l80 cosmic traveler now though which is one of the best prebuilt keyboards and wireless at $189-$200
Just being able to walk by lightly pressing W is a must have feature for RPG games.
I ain't gonna work a whole 2 weeks for a keyboard but it looks and sounds amazing
Literally what ive been waiting for but holy hell, just like the nova wireless that price. I hope razer can make the huntsman mini wireless with refined analogue switches at a cheaper price then this.
I expect huntsman 65%
Nova pro’s price is on point, and it might be the reason why SS went blind and release this keyboard at 300 bucks.
@@kyle.s5669 ill meet you halfway on that comment
wooting 60 he
@@fejotore Would make sense because now we have the ROG Falchion and Razer Blackwidow Mini V3é 65% is a much better sweet spot than 60%. I Would love to see more 75% instead of TKL too.
Hi @randomfrankp , do you think we may get updated version of apex pro TKL soon ? Looks like prices of them have dropped recently following release of mini ? What do you think . Is it worth getting one ones or wait ? Thanks
Looks like the same OEM used for the Redragon K530 Draconic keyboard.
they could have totally done it for the on keyboard actuation adjustment to have all the alpha numeric keys highlight for what level you are at, a-z,0-9, 37 keys right there
I generally watch you because you have some of the best on board RGB insights than other reviews but literally no RGB test for this one is a bummer
Between this one and razer blackwidow v3 mini and logitech 915 tkl mini witch is the best overall
I'd have been happy if they just updated the Apex Pro TKL with a detachable cable and stock PBT caps.
Do you have any information about SteelSeries prismcaps fitting the board? I've just ordered my apex pro mini and would like some pudding keycaps to go with it but obviously finding something compatible is hard when it's so new
Hey bro! Can you give a review on hyperx alloy 65%? Great content man!
Do a wooting vs apex pro video!
Also, if you’re a tkl guy, then do an apex pro tkl wireless video..
Still waiting for a low profile variant, went back for a streak65pl, apex pros got some huge keycaps
i thought the omnipotent 2.0 were hall effect sensors, around the 10:30 mark you mention optical switches, which one does this have?
the color of my keyboard changes when i close the app?
I really wish gaming companies decided to start making 65% boards rather than just 60s... 65 gives back the dedicated arrow keys and I feel like those are useful enough to keep on. Definitely not just bias because I prefer the 65% form factor lol
it makes sense, its not much bigger and adds so much more usability
@@aurum7695 HOW DID YOU FIND ME HERE BUDDY!?
@@EpsilonLost I was looking for real comments that werent the generic "I want this!!!"
Go see epomaker their 65 wireless bt 2.4ghz keebs 😍
60% is a lot more ergonomic IF the mod + fn keys are in a good spot. There's no reason for the spacebar to be that large.
Hi, one question, (let's talk about the specific model astro A40 TR 2019) Can the virtual sound scenario software function (indicated in the reviews on RTINGS) called: "speaker modeling" help improve the soundstage? Is this just commercial bullshit? Can it be emulated with the use of software even if the headset itself / series does not support the function? I know that eg. the modeling of the head can have a real confirmation in the soundstage, but I can't find proof of this other function and it seems to me a bit abstract let's say. Described by RTINGS this would basically adjust the width and angle of the speakers, and this (according to RTINGS) allows you to adjust the width of the soundstage, and says that this speaker adjustment is responsible for creating crosstalk and perceived angle of the source.
On a technical level, how do you see it?
Just bought one for 130! Thanks for the video!
hello i recently had an issue with the actuation of the keys on my keyboard like i can't use 0.2 on the whole keyboard but instead i only get to use 1.0 if i don't want to have my ctrl, win key and their steelseries fn key permanently pressed a friend of mine has the same issue and he contacted steelseries to get a fix but nothing works
Seems to me like there is ZERO standards for 60% layout secondary keys. Every time I want to try a new keyboard the DELETE or PG UP function keys are in a random place.
It would be cool if there was foldebal oled screen with a button and a volume wheel like the ones on the tkl and full size
For example if I want to change the steelseries key on meta bindings and want to put the arrow key or something else, so that's not possible right? because how I see on the video only the steelseries key isn't changeable
I gotta ask, what watch are you wearing? It looks great!
randomfrankp
Cual me recomiendas para jugar apex pro mini wireless o razer hutsman v2 pro??
I want to switch the switches out for blue ones on this keyboard. Where do i go about buying them?
I bought this today and must say I was a bit sceptical before I bought it because of the price, but it is a really nice keyboard if we don’t talk about that. 😊 If you are like me and don’t buy keyboard so often, this is well worth it. I play mostly CS2 and changed from Logi MX mini wireless which is also pretty nice. 😊
Wait what. The omnipoints are Hall Effect magnetic switches. They're not optical at all and if you were getting wild inputs it's because you got something on the sensor or introduced a conductive material.
60% looks clean but how to people live without keys such as DEL, PGUP, PGDN, ESC and the F1-F12 ? if it's just for pure gaming then perhaps it's fine but for a workstation I would prefer a TKL or 65% as a minimum..
Fresh new fade?
SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESH
Think I'll stick to my gmmk pro. Quick question Frank, can you please tell me where you got that clock on the right side of your desk?
I don't think its a clock, I have one its a heater monitor and you can turn it up and down by spinning it around. That's just the home screen!
These look like regular torx screws to me. Very common these days. Seems like an improvement over philips or hex screws.
wooting 60he better alternative with tachyon mode for lower input and rapid trigger plus analog movement. And its like almost 100 bucks cheaper lol
in my country tkl is 185 euro and SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini (not wirless) is 169 so its a better deal then tkl one plus its cheaper i over all like the 60% and i think that switch speed is worth the price
I would but the soothing but I can’t adjust the aviation just in the keyboard and I only have a ps4 so that’s why I might get the apex pro mini because you can actually adjust it on the keyboard and not just in the software
danke abeh, du hast den tag gerettet...
yea 240 is a lot for a 60, but it’s cheaper than getting the wired + a blackwidow v3 mini phantom to play on a tv 5ft away, 240
just got a critical firmware update
now the z key cant be selected to be illuminated ... lol
so its unlit on an rgb keyboard
or prism dosnt work when you pess the steelseries button half the keys turn orange ????
but this is uneditable ... lol
I like that they made this keyboard smaller but if they came out with the 65% keyboard of this that will make end game for me
also I wonder if they're going to add the new switches to the tkl version and also detachable cable and also stocked with PBT keycaps
Is there a wireless keyboard that doesn't have noticeable latency? I use a %60 KB with optical yellows and would like something of similar speed but bluetooth... is this still a pipe dream? Anyone have some recommendations?
@randomfrankp What is the numpad-looking-thing on your desk in the background of some shots?
now im just waiting for the 2.0 switches for the tkl
I've been using the Apex Pro TKL for nearly 2 years now and I love it. All I honestly wanted was for Steelseries to make a wireless version of the TKL and sadly this ain't it chief.
I wanted a smaller TKL thats wireless and they delivered a 60% without an oled screen or volume knob. Im a bit dissapointed but I still will be buying this wireless 60% and just get used to it
@@SurgeShock Why not just get the Logitech G915 TKL? That's what I've been using since it came out and looking at the price of the steel series, why not go for the G915 TKL Lightspeed? I love it
@@PerfectorZY I refuse to get any logitech products after a shitty experience with previous periferals
do u had the problem that it spams keys randomly?
Which would you recommend apex pro tkl or apex pro mini
Come on, could they not have made it 65%
fr
We need more, 65% supremacy!
Right
taking a look at the overall gaming keyboard space, most companies first went from full size, to tkl, to 60%, and then to 65%. examples: hyper x, razer, corsair (still dont have a 65%), everest, ducky etc
The 60% form factor was the second 'mini' form factor to become widely available (after tkl) and, more importantly, accepted in the wider communities outside of keyboard enthusiasts
75 Best layout
Just picked up the G915 tkl. Not looking back.
Just in time for the 60HE
they should have a 75 percent keyboard not just tkl i want a compact keyboard like gmmk pro design where theres volume dial and other its just how compact it is than a tkl. i use to main the steelseries apex pro tkl but because im trying to get into a small keyboard. i get that they put tkl but i like it more as a compact
Hey i have a question, what is the lowest actuation (0.??m to ??m) on the ape pro mini??
I have a question. My rgb doesn’t work, I tried to uninstall and install it but doesn’t work?
Still rocking the keychron Q1
How do you change the RGB on this keyboard ?
What is the battery life if you turn off RGB
Hopefully they’ll update their full size keyboard
A volume dial would have been really nice
Just wait 2 more months when the wooting 60he comes out it will have better build quality, a 0.1 mm actuation(not 0.4 like the apex pro).
what would you say between this one or the hyperx 60%
Does Apex Pro software has the programmable actuation?
Can you make a video about best sound keyboards ??
Neat keyboard dude 👍
Its nice that they offer wired and wireless, but I would've pulled the trigger if they just updated the TKL. I don't like to go smaller than TKL because I end up using the function keys alot, and I like dedicated arrow keys. Not to mention this looks like any cookie cutter 60%.
Since they did update the TKL, did you end up getting it?
@@jettreyc yea, it's solid, not my main kb tho
just go for the asus falchion, got it last year and love it
Steelseries should have just made an apex pro v2 with the new switches but same layout and design
Does it connect with a ps5?
Ty, for being real!
wooting 60he does everything the apex mini does but better and then even more (even the same kind of gateron magnetic hall effect switches)
wooting makes straight up better keyboards than steelseries
still I like that there are more options for alternate switches
Except the wooting isn’t wireless
hope they put a steelseries orange keycap for the esc key
Does anyone know if this variant is able to be case swapped? I really wanna do it to this board :D
This keyboard makes me think SteelSeries wanted to get their version of the Wooting 60HE out fast.
I was exited for this keyboard and well the future apex pro tkl v2 but when I saw that price tag on the mini I was like nope, and im the kind of person that likes to mod their keyboard. Not just lube and stuff like that but I also like to paint them because most of the time a white color option is not existent. So yea not gonna be exited to see the price of the v2s when they come out. Im gonna stick to razer just because of how easy it is to take their keyboard a part and and actually take the switches off. It makes it really easy to mod.
this looks just like the corsair k65 i that is what i use shoul i switch to something else?
I’m getting this for 130 (wireless). Should i buy it?
should i upgrated to this from the razer huntsman mini with red switches
Is 140 price better for it?
Do these switches have any pretravel or none?
Can't wait to cop this hot keyboard 🥵
How can i unlock the keys because only ctrl and shift are working
Does anyone know if the Prism keycaps fit this keyboard from my TKL?
idk but ihave this keyboard and when i charge it ihave 35% then i put in wireless then i only have 10% how do i charge it
