Max pitted on lap 50. After a few corners, GP came on the radio and said "So that's a 9-lap tire delta between Hamilton and Leclerc, Hamilton on hard, Leclerc medium." A moment later, he says "So just, think about how you bring the tires in gently please, Max." He could likely tell that Max was already pushing it. Max set purple in sector 1 on lap 51 and finished the lap by setting fastest lap (which had previously just been set by Norris and then beaten by Perez shortly before Max set it). That's when GP came back on the radio and said "Well that's some gentle introduction." Max was fighting the car the whole race, you could see it in his steering input and the sub-optimal lines he was taking throughout the race. Despite this, he had faster pace than both Hamilton and Leclerc. Part of his frustration with the strategy was the time he lost fighting through traffic, which he mentioned over the radio on lap 49 after briefly taking the lead of the race. I don't think there was any chance for Verstappen to beat McLaren but I'm sure he was expecting to be fighting for the win, which probably made it seem even more frustrating to be stuck behind the other cars and losing more time to the leader.
One wanted to win or loose the race, didn't care about getting on the podium or not. The others tried to maximize his results, which would probably have worked if he did listen.
Finally, somebody that looks into the details and understands his frustration. Was it necessary? But still, he's fighting for the championship, and that lead doesn't guarantee him the championship. If Red Bull can't catch up, Max most likely won't win the championship
@@SidusBrist the problem with the strategy was getting him undercut twice by hamilton, and right before the incident between them, Hamilton was showing what a masterclass defence looks like in hungary: it's really hard to overtake in that track outside the DRS zones, so hamilton was always defending the outside of turn 1, which prevented Max from getting the inside line before turn 2. by doing that Hamilton only needed to be side by side with max after turn 1 to avoid being overtaken by him in turn 2 ( max even tried to overtake around the outside in the 2nd attempt at overtaking, but had no grip and left the track for a moment) getting the 3rd place from hamilton considering their tires was really really hard, I'll even say that they would hit each other sooner or later anyway
The car's balance was bad and it was understeery, so it's understandable that he was pissed. However, the team did gave him a good strategy and he had a bid delta on Lewis prior to the attempted overtakes, he was faster and was fast enough for him to overtake him had he been more patient.
@@Dropje86 His attempted overtakes were risky and involved the car being oversteer which he didn't have because the car understeer and he locked up in all of his attempt. Had he stayed closed and attempted the move on the straight before T1 rather than actually on the T1 itself, it would've worked. He clearly was chasing Lando and didn't expect Lewis to put on that much of a defense, that's why he was really aggressive.
I don't want to hear Max say "this is how we'll race from now on, pushing people off the road" after Brazil '21 and Vegas '23. Also, Hamilton had medium-hard-hard while Max has medium-hard-medium. Yes I think Riccardo is overrated but he knows diva bombs well.
The funny thing is that he could've gotten past but he botched the overtake in turn one. His team didn't really fuck him they gave him the late-race advantage.
His weakness is that if it's about the race he will make it about one corner, and if it's about the championship he will make it about the race win. He can't see beyond what is right in front of him. The greater drivers like Ham/Alonso/MSC, would just be relaxing and collecting points for the championship having it on cruise mode, but Max seems to have to win every race to stay happy, or perhaps not even happy, just to keep him from going bananas. One bad race for max where the strategy also fucked him cus you’re tires are rapidly overheating in dirty air and overtaking was very hard on this track, and everyone is drawing conclusions that he’s not as great as lewis and stuff. Every driver has a bad race every now and then.
@usahillo max had more than enough tyre advantage to overtake, he just got schooled by lewis. Perhaps red bulls mistake was thinking max had enough skill to overtake lewis.
Now I wanna see everybody who hate on Lewis for complaining too much on the radio, Lewis had to drive for 3 years a shitbox so pretty fair to complain, now Max hasn’t the fastest car but still decent performance and literally whines on the radio and insult the same team who gave him a dominant car for 2 years a half
Wouldn’t call it a shitbox (just not a race winning or championship contending car) but after the events of 2021 it probs felt like that to him But all drivers complain lol it’s nothing new, this video is good for those under the Lewis video tried to make complaining on the radio a Lewis only thing which imo was laughable
He whines because the car's balance for that race was extremely bad and the car is understeery for this race. He didn't whine in Silverstone, Miami, or Canada when the car is at least balanced and oversteery like he wanted.
If Max keeps losing his temper like did last Sunday his WDC could really be at risk if RB can't keep up with McLaren updates. He still has a good gap in term of points with Lando, he's just to maximize every race to secure the title, and he clearly didn't do that this weekend.
I don't think the WDC is at risk yet, but you're right. He has to have a Prost like mentality from now on, bringing the car to the finish without crashes or contacts.
Sure, after his 1st win even Piastri should accept the team order to help Norris to get more points (alias swap positions, or sacrifice himself with unbalanced box tactic to force Max to answer the box tactic etc), and i think Hamilton and Russell will always be happy to stab where it hurts the most for Verstappen.. and against 4 drivers to reach the podium won't be that easy every time.. (Norris only need 7 more poits on ever race..)
His strategy was fine It’s just crystappen being typical crystappen when he doesn’t have a car two seconds faster than the rest Newey merchant exposed again

Go away with your filthy 'nuance' and 'reasoning'! Max/Lewis is the Gouda/Stilton of F1 and this battle unleashes passions we didn't know we had - that we both can't get over the Anglo/Dutch wars being a 2-2 draw so far.
@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1 Good question! As I understand it a truly good Stilton will have had a lot more time to ripen and, for sure, has a lot more zest, more personality if you would. It for sure is a tricky cheese, there have even been calls to ban it once or twice, if memory serves - something about potentially harmful fungii and bacteria. All a bit silly of course, it has become such a staple of English cheese culture by now. Then of course there is Gouda, but Gouda has the potential that you just see it everywhere and then it quickly becomes kinda boring, like there are no other cheeses. Of course, for better or worse, Gouda does melt deliciously when it does, making it great for toasties. And it does have a certain genius to it, you can serve it in big, chunky blocs that will try to squish themselves down your throat or just bounce on your plate if you're not careful. And as said before, when it is hot enough it near melts. But yeah, just by itself it is really kinda boring, it really needs a slice of Yorkshire ham to shine on a toastie or something. Not with too much ketchup though! Personally, as a Dutchman, I hope one day Beemster kaas will make a breakthrough - it is like Gouda but with a LOT more flavor and does everyting responsibly. No plastic additives, approaches things as a near science but also great care on how it ends up on the shelf. But it is so hard to find, sometimes I wonder if that cheese even exists, or if Gouda would even let it.

Finally a driver that can challenge Max
Or Sargeant
Finally a driver that can be even more consistent with place finishes.
That's when GP came back on the radio and said "Well that's some gentle introduction."
Max was fighting the car the whole race, you could see it in his steering input and the sub-optimal lines he was taking throughout the race.
@@iLevente I had to watch the entire onboard to really understand his race.
@@SidusBrist the problem with the strategy was getting him undercut twice by hamilton, and right before the incident between them, Hamilton was showing what a masterclass defence looks like in hungary: it's really hard to overtake in that track outside the DRS zones, so hamilton was always defending the outside of turn 1, which prevented Max from getting the inside line before turn 2. by doing that Hamilton only needed to be side by side with max after turn 1 to avoid being overtaken by him in turn 2 ( max even tried to overtake around the outside in the 2nd attempt at overtaking, but had no grip and left the track for a moment)
getting the 3rd place from hamilton considering their tires was really really hard, I'll even say that they would hit each other sooner or later anyway
finally someone can really undesrtand the race.
The car's balance was bad and it was understeery, so it's understandable that he was pissed. However, the team did gave him a good strategy and he had a bid delta on Lewis prior to the attempted overtakes, he was faster and was fast enough for him to overtake him had he been more patient.
Being patient doesnt work even with medium vs medium with the current tyres so forget about waiting around when the guy in front has hards.
But Hamilton had 1M and 2H tyres for the race. Verstapin had 2M and 1H so they could not use the same strat
Dude wtf are you talking about, Max was behind Lewis for an entire stint and couldn’t overtake, the Hungaroring is shit. Track position is everything.
Uhhhhh the strategy had him undercut twice what do you mean "good strategy"???
I don't want to hear Max say "this is how we'll race from now on, pushing people off the road" after Brazil '21 and Vegas '23.

Lol
They allowed hamilton to undercut him twice on a track where overtaking is difficult.
They didn't get the tyre adantage they wanted and essentially sacrificed an easy 3rd place for a difficult 3rd place, so I can understand why he was angry.

Go away with your filthy 'nuance' and 'reasoning'! Max/Lewis is the Gouda/Stilton of F1 and this battle unleashes passions we didn't know we had - that we both can't get over the Anglo/Dutch wars being a 2-2 draw so far.
@@sevenprovinces Lmao the cheese analogy is funny - which cheese do you prefer!
@@RANDOMZBOSSMAN1 Good question!
As I understand it a truly good Stilton will have had a lot more time to ripen and, for sure, has a lot more zest, more personality if you would. It for sure is a tricky
cheese, there have even been calls to ban it once or twice, if memory serves - something about potentially harmful fungii and bacteria. All a bit silly of course,
it has become such a staple of English cheese culture by now.
Then of course there is Gouda, but Gouda has the potential that you just see it everywhere and then it quickly becomes kinda boring, like there are no other cheeses.
Of course, for better or worse, Gouda does melt deliciously when it does, making it great for toasties. And it does have a certain genius to it, you can serve it in
big, chunky blocs that will try to squish themselves down your throat or just bounce on your plate if you're not careful. And as said before, when it is hot enough
it near melts.
But it is so hard to find, sometimes I wonder if that cheese even exists,
or if Gouda would even let it.
