- In painting we have to simplify our subject into big shapes but then we have to be able to break up the color and create beautiful color variations.

As always. Excellent advice!
Just watched this video again. It seems the more I watch it the more I appreciate the help you give so generously. Thank you once again.
Your welcome Anne, so glad it was helpful.
Excellent video. Thanks Phil ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Phil- of the hundreds of videos that I’ve watched of yours i think this is one of the best! Simple, to the point, and great visual of your various green mixes. Will use as a reference for a concise greens color chart to hang in my studio. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful Jaunie
Phil, I just wanted to say thanks to you for the great teaching. Your explanation is very clear and certainly adds value to my painting. Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge.
Your welcome Oscar, Glad they were helpful
Thank you for this! Green is the bane of my existence and I'm challenging myself to paint more green. This video is perfect!
Glad it was helpful! Greens can be tough.
I love❤, the amount of information 💓. you give 💝 in this 💯 interesting tutorial 💞 thank you for the beautiful video you share with us,,💖....
You are so welcome!
thankyou that was a great lesson
You're very welcome
Awesome
The addition of the fence in the foreground leading the viewer into the middle of the canvas really ties the composition all together ! I have really learned a lot from your lessons and ebay videoes Phil, thanks,Michael.
Thank you very much!
Thank you for your videos. You teach me so much. Ciao from Italy
Thank you for posting a video on mixing green in oils. Very helpful to see the colors you choose and the mixes you develop from these. It is also helpful to hear your thoughts on coloring mixing.
You are so welcome!
Learn so much, I will change my greens but I would have a lot of different values upfront and didn't know why it didn't look right. Thank you so much
Glad it was helpful!
This is the best tutorial on color choice that I have found. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Thank you Phil, this helpful for me. However I’d rather see you mixing the paint on your pallet instead of the photoshop blob but I guess that’s because I love the "feel" of the paint. Thank you again though, I love what you’re doing to help us all.
You’re welcome Anne
Thanks Phil! I would never have thought of mixing ultramarine blue and viridian for a blue-green. Lots of possibilities in this video. I have been wanting to explore colour temperature and this helps.
Glad it was helpful Hunter. Color temperature is king.
You are amazing teacher
Another great video and extremely well explained. I've watched many videos on mixing greens and this is the best by far.
Thanks Trent, glad it was helpful
Fascinating!
Thanks George
Another very helpful video 😊
Thanks Mary
Thank you. That was very helpful. I live in the Namib desert and I always have a problem with sand and more sand and always struggle to make that look interesting. I will use this method but in Yellow Ochres and earthy colours.
Glad it was helpful!
Really great Phil. I got some new information to try out,.
Hi Daniel, glad it was helpful
Excelenteeeee!! Un millón de gracias.
You're Welcome!
I like terre vert and sap green.
This is great Phil ! Would like to see more of this, with other colors like yellow. You’re yellows in your paintings look so good.
Thank you, I will
Very helpful. Would also like to see how this looks (in real life) on the palette ... how do those mixes come about ?
Great idea!
This was extremely helpful. Thank you. I am having issues with paint strokes for a large grass area similar to what you show here. Do you have any videos that cover brush strokes for grass? Thanks.
Glad it was helpful Debbie, I don't think I do have any videos on grass, I'll keep that in mind
Phil do you have a printed color chart with all these different greens? 😊
I’m going to make a color chart for these greens. Would be a handy reference to hang in my studio!
No I don't Bonnie, I keep meaning to make some charts but no time.
Hi Phil I would like to see a video from you about basic color mixing thanks love your videos
Thanks Shawn, Its coming soon.
Hi Phil, I'm thrilled I found your site!! This information you've shared on greens it priceless :-) I'm working on a mountain scene with fall colours. Have you done one on autumn aspens, or do you plan to do one in the future? Thank you for being so generous with your time and knowledge ....and talent ;-)
You are welcome, I'll try to work that one in
Wow! A great presentation and explanation. I am going to share this video to my friends. Phil, can I know the software that you use in your presentation?
Thanks Santoshraj, what is it?
I have a question about color mixing. If you were to make a green from ultramarine blue and cadmium yellow light, should you first make a value string of the blue and yellow separately and only then mix each to make the green?
Hi Edward, If you want to make a value string of green, I would mix the blue and yellow first then add white to create 5 or 6 values.
I heard stefan Bauman say he believes temperature is as important as value. While I understand value is number 1, I believe paintings can look a bit flat if the temperature is not correct. While my values are certainly not perfect, my paintings read as 3d, but look a little flat without being able to accurately see temperature.
Thanks, Color temperature is certainly more important than local color. It always helped me to separate color and value in my head
Very nice video, it helps me lot to understand color mixing thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
