He not the only seven footer on that league. If anybody watched those Jazz years, they were damn near just let them by and he had to clean up everything. You don’t have to be afraid of him for him to change your shot.

These guys are borderline unwatchable when they all start blabbing louder than each other. Too many giant egos for one room. As someone who loved those Nets teams, Kenyon wasn't even close to as good as a defender as Rudy is/was. Everyone likes to clown on Rudy and disregard his defense and trust me, I get it, french people are soft and and Rudy has a punchable face BUT the numbers arent lying with Rudy. He is an elite defensive anchor that has been the major reason why his past teams have been successful. Kenyon at 6'9" NEVER made an all defensive team yet alone DPOY. Rudy is 7'1" and made 7 all defensive teams with 4DPOY's. Blocks per game is a terrible way to judge a defender so im not surprised these idiots are making up numbers to qualify someones ability but i just want to point out that KMart NEVER averaged 2bpg even in a shortened playoff series. Rudy averages over 2 FOR HIS CAREER. Go ahead and yell all day that "analytics have ruined the game" or that "real hoopers know better". While I agree that you can't get the whole picture from stats and that defense is the hardest aspect of the game to quantify through statistics, they do give you a glimpse into how effective a player is towards their teams overall defense. At some point you have to take into account that all of the plus/minus stats and advanced RAPTORs, LEBRONs DARKO's SNORFS WORPs and TORMPs (yes I made a few of those up) indicate that Rudy has been having a major impact on the way opposing teams attack the hoop and when he is in the game, they dont get easy looks at the rim that they otherwise are used to. The game has drastically changed since Kenyon played and its even changed significantly since Dwight was at the peak of his powers. Because it wasn't a thing in his era, we didn't get to see Kenyon guarding on the perimeter and we rarely saw him switching onto smaller guards. We can speculate (as apparently many of you already have) that he would be good at this because he is shorter (lower center of gravity) than the majority of centers and was a great athlete. Maybe he would be able to switch like Bam does today but that is a very big MAYBE and just because he was athletic and short for a center that does not mean he would be good. There are plenty of examples on the contrary. Combine the above fact with the fact that Rudy is actually a very competent perimeter/switch defender for someone his size. Every smart team targets the center at the end of the game, not just Rudy. As much as the media tried to make it out to be, it wasn't Rudys fault the defense failed in Utah, that was Donovan Mitchell and his embarrassing lack of effort. So my point in all of this? The Gobert lack of respect is getting old. You don't have to like him but to not acknowledge his defensive impact just shows a lack of understanding of the modern game. Kmart has had a ton of terrible takes from Jeremy Lin to saying that "real hoopers know that Kyrie is the best player on the Mavs" but this one belongs in the same tier of utter nonsense. He was nowhere near as impactful of a defender as Rudy has been his whole career.
Rudy is unplayable in the playoffs. Can't move his feet. They looking for him on defense, especially Luka. Rudy couldn't even guard his own position against Denver. KAT did a better job on Jokic.
@dhollins - KAT guarded Jokic for the most part, Gobert didn’t do much in that series. And the wolves had their best defensive game when Rudy was out for the birth of his child
@@nydibs Yeah KAT was his primary match up but what I'm saying is when Gobert did end up guarding Jokic he did just fine. Outside of game 5 Jokic shot like 40% on Gobert. And their best game was game 6 not game 2
Bro in the Jazz days people were scared to go in the paint coz of Gobert coz of his defensive presence. Lets not take away his credit coz he got cooked by Jokic.
Dwight Howard has clearly not watched Rudy Gobert. Rudy anchored a top-10 defense with Conley, Mitchell, and Bogdanovic on the floor. No one does that if they're simply a good team defender. He also transformed the Wolves defensively. Smh
A lot of those DPOY that Rudy won I would actually give to either Bam or AD if we're talking specifically bigmen defenders. Bam and AD can do more like guard the pick and roll, switches and staying in front of their man whether it's a guard, forward or big. DPOYs today should be able to defend in all aspects and not just rim protecting cause players now are highly skilled that it's hard to even do what Dwight was doing like swatting the ball up to the 5th row.
He averaged 1.1, because they feared coming in the paint knowing what the possible outcome might be. Most of Rudy's blocks came from him being a weak side defender.
Dwight: If he (rudy) is such a good defender, why france didn'y put him in the game in the olympics? Rashad: (with his WHOLE CHEST) they didn't need him, they got wemby. Dwight and Gil proceeded on COOKING this, man. You can't take this man serious.

When you win 4 defensive players of the year then you should be a top 10 all time defensive player. Rudy Gobert isn't a top 10 defensive center of all time.
Should be true, but winning dpoy in an era where defense is mostly non-existent is why this happens
Mutiple dpoy can be overrated that just means u the best defender in that era that still dont put u above hakeem or david robinson or even alonsk mourning
@@nydibsyou can make a case that winning DPOY in this era is actually more impressive because offenses have never been better.
- all the rules are skewed towards aggression and offense
- there are far more offensive killers
- offensive schemes are more optimal
- far more spacing and shooting (shooters at every position) than in any era
@@mechajintsubro that award has to go to someone every year, what do you mean????
Defense is a situation now, it’s barely apart of the game. Shit sad and weak as hell. I doubt he could get the award 15 year ago when defense was played.
@@AbstractHomosapien that award has to go to someone every year - yes it does, and this era though offenses are better than ever = it is harder to defend turbo-charged offenses especially for tall 4's 5's.
I doubt he could get the award 15 year ago when defense was played. - this is a good point because the converse can also be true too, in the 90's most of the winners were shot blocking centers who would have trouble switching out to the wing and defend the Steph Curry's, James Harden's, Luka's of today's era.

He not the only seven footer on that league. If anybody watched those Jazz years, they were damn near just let them by and he had to clean up everything. You don’t have to be afraid of him for him to change your shot.
The young fella Kessler had TWICE AS MANY BLOCKS as Rudy when he was in Utah.. he tougher than Rudy too!! Rudy aint controlling the paint like that he never has..
@@DubR424 One, that’s just a flat out lie 😂. WK never had twice as many blocks. And yall obsessed with the highlights. Theres plays that never show up on an espn top 10 of the amount of times he forces you to change your shot or flat out miss because he’s in the paint. His problem was never defending the rim, his problem is once he’s pulled away from the rim he’s flat footed and slow.
@user-bk8gx3jd7i Yeah, these people only watch highlights. They don't watch games
Went to the barbershop this morning and we literally talk like this about ball. Tone and everything lol
Rudy goberts defense is overrated plain and simple 🤷♂️😂
In today’s game yes. But in the 90’s he would be a top center
I agree that’s also probably true
@@Iniquityslashertf does that have to do with anything 😂😂😂 he’s trash, don’t add that extra stuff casual. He’s playing now, not in the 90s 💀💀💀
@@IniquityslasherIronically it would actually be worse in the 90’s. Gobert get’s abused anytime he plays Embiid or Jokic. Now imagine him guarding the 90’s centers like Shaq, Ewing, David Robinson and Hakeem. He’d be getting 40 put on his head every other night.

Dpoy is a regular season award and his defence in the regular season is insane
Every team ruddy goes to his team goes top 1-2 in defense. Speaks for itself
I don't get why people just ignore this fact. The Jazz and Wolves do not accomplish what they did without Rudy Gobert.
@@gyamjames Some American players like to hate on him because he's not part of their "fellowship". Most of them grew up together through AAU and college. They have a really hard time aknowledging or respecting players who didn't go through the same path nor grew up with them. They want to validate their own path. Not saying this is right or wrong, but some people function like that and it seems pretty prevalent in sports
He’s a 7’2 guy who can move his feet. That’s very valuable regardless of his level of defense. He’s a great defender but bro is not a 4x dpoy. It’s just a fact, he got the awards cause there’s no defense in the league 🤷🏿♂️

Gobert may not be best defensive player all time but in a league that focuses on Offense, a player like him can get DPOY any year.
Bunch of dudes who can’t listen😂😂
Brandon Jennings after Dwight said K-Mart was a rim protector....
"THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, F*CKING THANK YOU, GOT-DAMN" 😂😂😂
Rudy is unplayable in the playoffs. Can't move his feet. They looking for him on defense, especially Luka. Rudy couldn't even guard his own position against Denver. KAT did a better job on Jokic.
You clearly only watched one game and not the whole series. Other than game 5 Gobert played Jokic fine when they match up.
Their arguments are valid and keeps one glued 😌
Wemby should have won it, people are legit scared to have him guarding them. They switch to get Rudy on them.
“When you think of Gobert what you think about?…… Just a stupid muafucca” 😂 Nick a foo 😂
Bro in the Jazz days people were scared to go in the paint coz of Gobert coz of his defensive presence. Lets not take away his credit coz he got cooked by Jokic.
who said they was scared 👀
Kmart blushed a lil bit😊 when dwight gave him that compilement
Kmart looks sick. Nick young looks high.Dhoward looks confused
No one was afraid of Kmart blocking their shot. 1.1 bpg for his career and he's being talked about as if he's better than Gobert.
He averaged 1.1, because they feared coming in the paint knowing what the possible outcome might be. Most of Rudy's blocks came from him being a weak side defender.
K Mart was also technically an undersized PF.
Dwight: If he (rudy) is such a good defender, why france didn'y put him in the game in the olympics?
Rashad: (with his WHOLE CHEST) they didn't need him, they got wemby.
Dwight and Gil proceeded on COOKING this, man. You can't take this man serious.
