What I got from your video is that I can get 90% of the genuine, for 5% of its price. Now I am no genius but that sounds like a good deal to me and my average Joe budget. Thanks for sharing now I can order one.
That BP is on my list...right after the Ferrari and the villa on Lake Como. The Reef Tiger is a beautiful tribute to the FF while showcasing some originality. I love it. Might have to put one in the cart. Great comparo.
Lol Brian, you forgot the private jet too! 😅 But yeah the Reef Tiger is an incredible value for the price imo. You can see by the strap quality I wore the heck out of that watch! I may order the blue dial and rose gold tone case version someday! Thanks for checking this one out! 😎👍
Great and interesting video. Thanks! Always love to see comparison between high end original and lowly homages. There is simply no competition between the two. I am a bit surprised that at 2:00, the clicking of turning bezel of BP sounds so much rougher than the RT. The finishing of BP is just beautiful. For the RT at almost USD300, it can do better given the decent quality of other Chinese watches at this price range.
Thanks Mocha! I completely agree, if the RT had more to offer or was priced a bit lower it would sell a lot more and be more popular I think. As for the bezel sound that is more my fault with the sound in editing the video, I’ll make sure I give a more accurate representation of how the BP sounds when I do that full review vid. also I was pressing down on the bezel so that also affected the sound of it versus just turning it freely.
You've missed out on the most important deficits of the RT: the bezel (as most scratch-endangered part of the watch) is not made of sapphire albeit being described as such, the bezel turns far to easy, the heads of the screw bars are round inside (instead of hexagonal), making it a pain in the... to change the strap or to safely fix the watch on the wrist, the lume is very different from watch to watch (from excellent to very poor) and the minutes hand is a bit to short. The Octopus Kraken homage is quality wise much better and fits for smaller wrist sizes.
For what I saw on a previous video, the bezel of this Reef Tiger has a mineral glass material, not the sapphire one (the guy measured it with a digital tool on that video...)
Thanks so much, Riad! Yes, actually in a few videos from now, I plan to do a side by side comparison of my Tudor M76213-0007 with a Holuns Day-Date in two tone where I'll show all the details of the Tudor up close. Stay tuned for that one! 😎👍🍻
Awesome, Jason! I think for most of us who love the BP FF, the Reef Tiger is a good option to scratch that itch. Keep working towards the grail piece and enjoy the journey! I appreciate you checking out my vid. 😎👍🍻
Hey there Junior! Yeah that six o clock does give it better symmetry for sure! The Hodinkee Mil Spec collab is a grail for sure! I don't know if I would ever be able to get one, but that too has caught my eye. Hope all is going well for you, my friend. Have a great week! 😎👍🍻
Hey Hunter! Yup they sure do! It’s called the X71 bracelet. I had actually ordered one off eBay for around $1700 but when it arrived it just didn’t seem legit so I returned it. Someday I’ll buy the newest version of it from BP directly to ensure it’s authentic. The reference that comes on the bracelet is 5015-1130-71S 😎👍
That is a really nice comparison between the two. I don't hate homage watches. But I have my own reservation. This Reef Tiger is a good example that I'm seriously considering. A good homage is those you can easily recognized what it was inspired from. But at the same time you can also be able to identify the differences apart from the original at social distance. Thanks for such good video.
I actually spent $400 on the Swatch tribute watch. Indian Ocean - Green. I rather like it. Very light weight. I wanted to get the Ocean of Storms but opted for the Reef Tiger instead. I'm going to trade the light weight for the richer look. I'm 58 so the NH35 will likely last a lifetime with 1 or 2 services. This is my 2nd Reef Tiger. Worth $300 for sure.
The blue ti 5015 was my grail. A couple years ago I said "F" it and pulled the trigger. Its truly an amazing watch. Do you know what size Allen wrench is needed to remove the spring bars on the BP?
Thanks man! Absolutely, the Reef Tiger scratched the itch for me but the perfection on the FF can’t be denied. I appreciate you checking out the video! 😎🙌
Steel FF is the ultimate dive watch, if only I had the money! The Reef Tiger might be an option for my pocket. Just viewed some Watchbox content on the rose gold FF. For me, it just looked awful. What a change in manufacturing material can do to a design!
Absolutely agree, Hugh, it really is the ultimate diver! I think you'll really enjoy the Reef Tiger, it got a lot of wrist time by me before the FF purchase lol. I have been back and fourth on the fence about the rose gold versions...I do think if I were to get one, the blue dial Ref: 5015-3603C-63B is the one I'd choose. I think the muted blue has a nicer contrast compared to the black version. Very different look compared to the SS or even the Titanium cases for sure! 😎👍🍻
My friend, great side by side, O my, the Blancpain is such a quality product, most likely puts a Sub to shame also...Great Vid, see you on the Gram brother...
Hey Leo, thanks so much brother! Yeah, its one of those watches that doesn't get the love it deserves imo haha, but I really like that its understated and flies under the radar. I can wear it in peace out in public and not have to keep it locked away in a safe. Cheers man! 😎👍🍻
I have two Reef Tiger watches: the one you've shown here and the RGA 8239 model, both of which are high quality, especially for the prices I paid for them ($190 and $125 - November sales 2018). I also had the Sea Wolf model, but that one had a bezel that was too loose and I sold it at a reduced price (about US$130). The nylon strap is poor quality and the edges are fraying, other than that I am very satisfied.
Those are great deals you picked up for those prices on both watches! I think Reef Tiger deserves more love in the homage community, I mostly see Pagani Design, San Martin, etc. dominating out there. I appreciate you sharing your personal experience with your two watches and seems like your strap has had the same deterioration over time like mine. Thanks for checking out the vid! 😎👍🍻
As a watch enthusiast I offer the following experiment: sit 1000 people down and offer them either a Blancpain or a Reef Tiger plus $13,600 in cash and see how they decide.
I have had nothing but problems with my reef tiger watch. Had it for one month, one of the markers came off under the sapphire dome. Tried contacting reef tiger about 30 times, impossible. So after much complaining to the 3 party that sold me the watch they finally agreed to send me a new watch if I paid for shipping and once they received the damaged one. So, after about a month I got the exact model of watch about two weeks went by and another marker came off inside the dome. So , I took it to a jeweler in my area , here in Canada , they sent it a watch repair man in Toronto. After a few weeks they told they may break the dome removing it and the repairs would then cost me about the cost of a new watch. So , I am waiting to go and pick up the piece of junk , bring it home and do a video of me smashing it with a hammer. I will post that when I do it……
Woah, that is terrible to hear about your experience with not only one but two separate watches from RT! Sounds like a nightmare, and while I never had that personal experience I know that can sometimes be the case with these Chinese brands. Sorry it didn’t work out, I’m now a bit hesitant to get their rose gold and blue dial version next year 😬
If you compare the price of Swiss watch in dollars taking into account inflation now and in the eighties - they became 2 times more expensive. The quality has not changed - the marketing has changed. I think it's unfair. Therefore, it is better to buy expensive Chinese watches ( about 2000$). Their quality will be no worse than Swiss. Beijing, Shanghai and Seagal can be safely recommended.
I never did service a LFA, but I have driven and fixed plenty of other exotic cars. Ferrari is the best example I know of as goes a furious high performance car, so much so that little regard is made for luxury or tradition. I'm newer to watches, and comparing them to Ferrari, it seems to me a super strong or light cased sapphire quartz with a decent band would be the Ferrari equivalent. I'm not knocking Blancpain in any way, but from a standpoint of trying to understand luxury watches, does their effort and delivered build quality really make the 50 fathoms worth the cost vs tool watches that perform similarly? Say, like the no expense spared hand built effort of Aston Martin? Or is the 50 fathoms some degree of overpriced and running on 70 years of hype? My grail watch was Bulovas unobtainable original mil ships, a pretty blatant rip off of these, and Bulova recently started making a semi decent production version, so now I have one. But the Blancpain being the true OG I wonder just how much more awesome you buy with 25x the cost or more.
Great points you bring up and a lot to unpack there but in my opinion what makes the fifty fathoms worth it overall is the fact it checks all the boxes, at least for me, it has the heritage and historical significance in the watch real in terms of horology, hand finished and assembled, and is built with an incredible performance in terms of its design and function. An example is the three barrel movement, not only giving the 5 day power reserve but evenly distributing that over the course as it unwinds, so you get a consistent accuracy and performance even if not being wound regularly. I often take if off my wrist or have tested to let it sit for a day or two and toss on the timegrapher, and after giving it a few seconds, its constantly at 0 to 1s/day...incredible. It is regulated to 6 positions, 1 additional over most dive/tool watches COSC certification of 5 positions. It is, in my opinion, more like that of the Aston Martin you mention in your comment. BUT, you can definitely find a watch that fills the same roll for a fraction of the cost. I guess like all luxury items of similar caliber, the heart wants what the heart wants. I have had the chance to check out the Bulova Milships you mentioned, the reissue, and its a great watch! Definitely stays true to that original design and scratches the itch for sure. Someday I am going to try to get an original Aqua Lung or maybe the Tornek-Rayville model...its nice to dream haha. Cheers and thanks for your comment! 😎👍🍻
Aww well shit I thought you were being serious man! 😅 context is hard in just text, I should have known better since this video is literally about watches.
I'd gladly drop MSRP for a brand new FF right now if they'd just offer any of the 40mm limited editions for sale, or just a 40mm of the normal one. I've tried the 45mm on at the boutique and it looks comical on me. Would be a laughing stock at the office wearing that. Guess they don't want my money...😭
I hear you 💯 on that! I am lucky to be able to pull off the 45mm case but if it was 40-42 I think they’d sell so many more of their watches. Eventually I want to get a Barakuda, Mil-Spec, and No Rads in the collection, but they are a bit harder to come by and the prices are definitely up there compared to the 5015. Blancpain has been hearing from enthusiasts to make a smaller Fifty Fathoms for years, let’s hope they release one eventually! 🙏
Great side by side, the details & fine finishing is definitely where its at & even though the Reef tiger is a good well made watch it is oceans away from the BP. As for homage pieces in general if that's the kind of thing that someone enjoys then don't let anyone tell you they're this that or the other just enjoy them for what they are. Me personally like you I've had a ton of them through the channel, some good some not so good haha, have I kept any of them? Nope not a one not even the BB!! A beautiful watch but I fell out of love with it 😱 What's next? I hear you cry.....keep your eyes on IG.🤣
Thanks Adrian! I agree 100% about the whole homage thing, I had a lot of wrist time with the Reef Tiger and enjoyed every bit of it! Wait, you got rid of your BB?! I will definitely stay tuned on IG for the next update haha! 😎👍🍻
Thanks for the review. I really enjoyed this. My dive grail ( realistic) is not all that much - the Oris aquarius new movement 41.5mm. It's better than the BB in my opinion. The fifty is such a class watch but too big for my weedy wrists 😢. The homages of that one watch don't click with me but I have a lot of other ones Inc the sub..
this is like cars. A top end "low tier" brand product is going to outperform a "premium" brand's average product You need to spend at least 20K for a Rolex to get something better than, say, a 1K Seiko watch
I can see the point you're making. I think at the end of the day, for each person it simply comes down to the heart wants what the heart wants. Thanks for checking out the vid and sharing your thoughts! 😎👍🍻
They both look great but of course the Blancpain is the real deal and much better quality. It’s nice to see the progression in your watch collection from homage to the real deal, next up the Patek Philippe Nautilus!😂
Thanks John, I don't know if I'd ever get a Patek, especially the Nautilus but it would be awesome to have one in the collection for sure haha! Its been an interesting journey no doubt, thanks for checking out this side by side vid! 😎👍🍻
I do agree with you, Jim, and if Reef Tiger were to price this piece at $200-250 I think they would sell so many more of them! And yes, the FF was a price that I had never paid for any watch before so I was literally sweating when I pulled the trigger on it lol. But I will say I would have no problem selling it for what I paid, and possibly a bit more so there is some peace of mind in terms of the expensive price tag there. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😎👍🍻
Interesting, what is it about a quartz version that you would like the best vs the automatic? I think if they did a quartz movement, they could probably more easily achieve a 300M WR rating, for sure!
@@DavidSchwartzjr Solar Quartz for me is the ultimate in outdoor watch and this is something I'd love to use in/under the boat. I love my COSC automatic and though it will travel to many places with me, it cost me a lot. These are so beautiful and I think I just find if I were to spend $300-$900 I'd rather get an accurate and reliable solar quartz with a beautiful watch and save the automatics for the $1200+ range. I get it though, solar quartz doesn't exactly have the biggest market at $500.
Haha you’re absolutely correct about that, Tommy! And it’s secretly what I love about it. I wore this watch to a dive bar and it didn’t catch any unnecessary attention. It’s a piece that only watch enthusiasts will recognize and I personally think that’s super cool about it! 😎🙌
So true. It’s something I plan to really convey when I drop the full review on the watch. The history, the finishing and craftsmanship, truly an amazing watch that I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of. I appreciate you checking out the video Rodrigo! 😎👍
@@DavidSchwartzjr looking forward for the full review… You can see all the details in a closer look - Blancpain FF is perfection … every little is perfect . I compared for example with my Rolex submariner and GMT Master and for example you will see in the GMT hand the painting is horrible or the finish in the minutes hand on the submariner… Blancpain FF is perfection
definatly not a homage channel anymore, what a fluke, im unsubscribing! not what i subbed for!!! LOL dude great watches, love the level up of the watches now you got, no more shitter pieces.
Haha thanks Brian! Lol don’t leave!! I have more homages I promise 🤣 I’m definitely content In terms of hunting down a grail piece, maybe once I retire I can get a A. Lange Zeitwerk 😍👍. Cheers bro, I hope all is going well for you and the fam! 🙌
45mm is way too big. 40.3mm great. If they aren’t going to copy the 3, 6, 9 and 12, which looks fantastic, just like the Explorer, then a 12, like the Grande Date, would have looked killer. Just copy the dial of the Barakuda and be done with it.

The dial and layout of the Reef Tiger looks better to me.
Better RF than the swatch homage tough
Reef tiger is overpriced by $200. NH movement costs $20. Other the other hand the legendary BFF is just too expensive.
I want a reef tiger in quartz... :/
Reef Tiger wins considering price.
lol most people out there dont know what blancpan is and they probably walk around with a timex on their wrist
Haha you’re absolutely correct about that, Tommy! And it’s secretly what I love about it. I wore this watch to a dive bar and it didn’t catch any unnecessary attention. It’s a piece that only watch enthusiasts will recognize and I personally think that’s super cool about it! 😎🙌
Congrats on your grail watch
Thanks man! I still can’t believe it sometimes, but the hunt for sure was much more satisfying. I’ll be happy to pass this piece on later in life.
I thought it was called Beef Tiger... Phew.
Haha! That would have been really unfortunate if it were the case lol. Thanks for the laugh! 😎👍🍻
The Reef Tiger would be alright... A lot cheaper too...
Absolutely, I enjoyed the heck out of the Reef Tiger and I’m sure the next owner will too! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts bro! 😎🙌
Nothing can’t compare to the Blancpain fifty fathoms… it’s the worlds first modern diver ever made and the most refined diver in todays market…
So true, just got one for $400
That’s “amazing” lume? I have $100 Seikos that have better lume. Companies need to do better for the prices they’re asking.
definatly not a homage channel anymore, what a fluke, im unsubscribing! not what i subbed for!!!
The Reef Tiger is an overpriced rebranded Pagani Design
$400 is steep these have come way down you can get one on a bracelet for less than $200 now
