It is literally the first time he's beaten a truly top player! And it's Novak at his worst since early 2018... Ruud was 0-5 against him, 0-2 against Sinner, 0-3 vs Medvedev, 0-2 against Rafa, 0-4 against Carlos.

What I like about Casper is that he is never rude! He is the quite the gentlemen and he's been playing reaslly well this week. As for Novak, yes he lost, but he seems to be recovering his form. Interesting to see how he does in the rest of clay court season and Roland Garros.

Even Ruud was in disbelief that he has finally defeated Nole. his backhand has really improved. Very well deserved and kept his nerve after being broken in the 8th game of final set.
I am glad that Nole was striking the ball really well and glimpses of prime Nole were visible. However, his serve in the whole tournament proved to be quite vulnerable which very unlike Nole as its always been pretty consistent and fires at key moments.

As for Novak, it’s not unusual for him to take some time to transition from hard to clay, and he’s already looked much better at MC this year than he did over the last years, he’ll peak in time for RG, I’m not too worried about him

Last year was amazing, better than expected, but I also think the end of his domination is near and he will do as he said last year - retire when he starts losing regularly. It’s been quite regular this year, his worst season start in ages. If he can win one more GS, it could be Wimbledon. If Alcaraz and Sinner will be more worn out from the clay season than him, he can have a chance at Wimby.

As a Novak fan, I'm not disappointed with this loss. Firstly Casper played extremely well in the third set and hit some unbelievable winners. His forehand was absolutely on fire today. He was serving really well and his BH too was solid from the beginning. And he's such a humble guy didn't even celebrate until Djokovic was off the court.
Djokovic was way too agressive from the start and he was looking to hit winners literally every ball that came to him. If I'm not wrong Djokovic missed some 20-22 shots(BH & FH) or even more while trying to go for a winner down the line and many on the cross court too. That's where lost the match. Eventually as Novak will play more matches on clay the number of these kind of UF errors will come down and Novak will find the line more often.
Overall nole played decent but nowhere near his best.
Monte Carlo isn't a tournament where he goes till the semis but this year he has played well here. Physically struggling a bit but he should be fine.
Now interesting to see whether Novak plays Madrid or directly at the Rome.
Roland garros and Olympics is his main goal as of now and he should not be worried about this loss.
Last year he hardly won only 4 matches(on clay) in total before the French open and still won it comfortably. Atleast this year he'll have more wins if he plays both Madrid and Rome and RG will be the right time to peak

The problem is we’re so used to Novak being dominant, so if he loses a few times it looks like the end of the world. Now at some point soon it may well be. But hard to tell right now. Let’s see what happens after the French and Wimbledon. If, say, he were to fail to reach at least the semis in both then we could say that’s probably the end of the road.

Nole has now lost to Ruud, De Minaur, and Nardi this year. The cracks are starting to appear. Prior to 2024, he had never lost to Ruud or De Minaur. Nole is slowing down and the young guys have more belief that he is beatable. He's 36 years old so this was expected eventually. Nole can still contend at Wimbledon and USO but he's no longer the clear favorite. Sinner has beaten him 3 of the last 4 times also.

I might be wrong, but I’ve got a feeling Novak has lost a little bit of desire and motivation.. only a little bit but something isn’t the same. He’s still amazing and one of the best but he’s 37 very soon and he’s won so much in his illustrious career.. part of me thinks he’s finding it harder to be motivated and stay focused and ruthless.. the GOAT is slowing down. Apart from that his racket speed is slower and backhand isn’t as lethal as 2011-15. Father Time marches on. I hope he wins something this year. Clay is a younger man’s game. He can use his experience on grass I believe.

It's too bad Djokovic is starting to wear out right around when Alcaraz and Sinner are accelerating upward. Would have been fun to have a few years of the three of them batting each other around. I think last year was the last great year for Djokovic. His ball striking and movement were simply unparalleled in his career last year. You can still see flashes of it now, but there is an inconsistency now that is not characteristic of him. I think the fact that he knows he's not as steady as he once was is starting to undermine his confidence. That all said, Djokovic has really grown into being a champion. I've never been much of a Djokovic fan, but over the last 2 years or so I've developed a newfound respect for him.
