I always liked the fact that Tommy avoided eye contact with his opponent, he always lowered his gaze, but he always won. Its a good way to fool the opponent, make them drown in their confidence, act like you're scared, submissive, but then you surprise them
Spoiler alert: This is my favourite "sports" film and I think a lot of people misunderstand the ending and call Tommy losing unrealistic. However, everyone knows Tommy could easily have beat his brother, but he wasn't looking to win the fight. He was looking to hurt his brother and take out all his childhood pain and frustration and sense of abandonment in that fight. There's a reason he takes out all the other fighters in seconds, he had no emotional tie to those fights, he was there to do a job. Against his brother, his pain overruled him. The significant moment is when he taps out only AFTER his brother tells him he's sorry and that he loves him. The entire movie he played it cool like his dad and brother meant little to him, but Tommy's story was actually about healing his trauma, and the brothers reconnecting. It was a perfect ending, as the two brothers carry each other out and leave the father behind.
True, I think, the final didn't represent Tommys side of the story. I think Tommy should have won paid for his brother's house and the rest of the proceeds to his friend's widow, the dissappear again.
Last weekend, Hardy proved he was a real-life action hero when he took part in the Milton Keynes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open 2022, held by Ultimate Martial Arts Championships (UMAC) at Oakgrove School. He walked away with a gold medal after winning both his fights.25 Sept 2022
I always wanted to see a warrior sequel with either Scott Adkins or Florian montenau ( with his, trainer Jason Statham) playing the primary antagonist of the film. For instance Tommy post military jail could be released with literally next to nothing in the years 2017-2018 and grapple immensely with the death of his father, re-constructing his own life from scratch ( he'll be homeless for a time sleeping in a homeless shelter and eating out of soup kitchens then when his dad dies the only thing he inherits would be that well kept old muscle car which he decides to live out of rather than abide by the strict rules and corrupt treatment going on within the shelter walls post being ejected from said shelter for non-compliance.), and dealing with feelings of immense shame / guilt for not winning that first Sparta tournament. Eventually Tommy will track down the family of his dead friend and find out that the wife remarried but is in an extremely abusive relationship that's carefully hidden from the public and that her two kids are straying down the wrong paths in life due to all the traumas / brutal scenes they witnessed after their mother remarried. Tommy could ig write these wrongs and try his damndest to give guidance to those kids thus taking on a similar role to his father within the first film. Tommy while doing this could also decide to enter one last Sparta tournament ( which takes place in either Dubai, Rome Italy, or the capital of Greece) to try an win the prize money which could be substantially larger than last time at 25-30 million$ because of this he reaches out to his brother Brendan and by extension his former trainer frank for help cuz he's got nobody else to turn to especially after burning bridges with colt Boyd. Tommy will be trained and mend his relationship with Brendan completely picking up where they left off at the end of the first film. Ultimately Tommy will only have one more opportunity to win Sparta due to his age and being way past his prime athletically and everyone within the mma world recognizes this as well but write Tommy off as flash in the pan wasted potential, washed up, and a " never was" in combat sports. Along the way Tommy will suffer injuries and show signs of his body deteriorating due to the hard training and fights needed to qualify for Sparta but he keeps pushing forward and ultimately transforms into a more patient, well rounded, strategic and technical fighter and goes on to win Sparta making good on his old promise to the wife and family of his dead friend while also securing his own future in the process.

But obviously most marines aren’t trained in MMA and learn only the most basic techniques in MCMAP which is absolute garbage compared to legit martial arts.
That’s a great point. A warrior from the days before guns would probably sleep a trained fighter from these times or at least match them. But now most of them would lose easily in the ring against a trained fighter. In a real life and death fight, I give it to the soldier. I think it made enough sense given how much the movie emphasizes his brother’s ability to tank hits. Tommy was too used to fights ending quickly, didn’t have the endurance to keep going for a prolonged period.
I read another comment that said because it was emotional to Tommy his brother walking out on him and his ma he wasn’t going for the knockout like all the others previously he was there to inflict pain like think Karate Kid 3 fight. I think if they wouldn’t have known each other Tommy would have won but also the movie emphasized the brother being able to tank hits.
