  • Easily my most requested video on my channel, here is finally the quick rundown and review of Zach Smith's B20 Turbo e.g. hatch! This was the first boosted FWD Honda I've ever driven but not ridden in. It's a nice conservative fun backroad setup.It's definitely a fun weekend toy for sure.I hope you enjoyed the video review and thanks for watching!

    All the vibration wasn't from the downpipe lol. It was from stiff motor mounts. Very much needed in fwd cars to minimize wheel hop.

    I love turbo Hondas when they're done right. I have a 97 Civic Coupe with a boosted single cam (JDM D15B VTEC block with stock internals with a D16Z6 head and a 63 trim T04e turbo setup that I put together myself) and even on 6 lbs of boost it really rips. I have a full 3" turbo-back exhaust though with no cat. It also has a JDM S8G Del Sol Si transmission with short gears. I'm in the process of building a B series LS swap for it and yes, the turbo kit will live on with it. My car is an EJ8 and I love this thing. Good review David!

      The thing is lets say I dont own a car. I buy one to mod . Dollar for dollar with a lets say LSX motor , your going to make more power with an lsx.
      Take all those same mods and put them into a 6.0l lsx and you will have 800 rwhp but better yet gobs of TQ
      Honadas are great reliable committer cars . Not something I would race or do up.

      Exactly. I've had some deep conversations with Honda tuners that blow my mind (pun intended)

      Their response-"Oh it will. It's only a matter of time."

    • @AJMangino
      @AJMangino 10 років тому +8

      ThatDudeinBlue I would say it is because honda engines are inexpensive and readily available. Also, they are very easy to work on. It costs $1500 to fix a blown B20, compared to $9000 to replace your mustang engine.

    • @ThatDudeinBlue
      @ThatDudeinBlue  10 років тому +6

      AJ Mangino I can get a Coyote a little north of 6 grand.
      But that's of course no bargain in comparison haha.

    • @Joe11Blue
      @Joe11Blue 10 років тому +5

      ThatDudeinBlue You can buy JDM B20's for $600+ shipping. It takes maybe 5 hours from start to finish to do an engine swap. It is still really hard to beat the price for performance of the older Civics. You really just have to be willing to live without a lot of things and tolerate the down sides of owning an older Civic.

    The drop off in rpm between gears is normally due to running a lightened/lighter flywheel. They don't keep the momentum due to the light weight, so rpm drops off fast...much more so than an oem flywheel.

    That's what I love about most 4 bangers, you can throw a turbo on them and not tune it, not add injectors. And have a decently faster car. (not for long). My cousin boosted a d15b crx, no tune or injectors and it lasted 7 months before he traded it. His boosted miata, no tune or injectors lasted over 6 months, but it's getting a v8 now. :b

    You haven't driven many high powered fwd Hondas. My DC2 GSR has 450hp for 3+years. Not once did I ever think it was going to blow up nor has it. I have 255/60/15 tires and don't suffer from traction issues. Now if you put the wrong parts on your car and tune it wrong then yes your car might blowup and all the horsepower will be waisted due to traction lose. Drive a real boosted fwd done right before you give reviews on what you hardly know about.

    • @ThatDudeinBlue
      @ThatDudeinBlue  10 років тому +7

      Obviously. Thus the reason I say I haven't driven many. And that's why I also pointed out when I say thing "in my experience." You did your build right-most people don't.

    • @maxpayne044
      @maxpayne044 10 років тому +1

      Zach Smith
      Sorry you were offended by my comment. But I stand by what I said, If a fwd boost honda has these few items, boost by gear, suspension at a decent ride height (not slammed) proper tires(not cheapos, and no doesn't have to be on DR's) and a LSD you wouldn't have those issues. My car isn't "fully built" nor is it a drag car. From the outside looks like a normal Integra on regular rotas. Nothing special, but if done right yes a 450HP honda can have traction. Your car is nice, a b20 isn't something most people would boost because of it being weaker then other b-series motors. But it is a good car. Not some troll, just don't want people getting misinformation about what was mentioned. It's just a matter of time before it blows up is just not an accurate statement. If it is tuned correctly you never have to worry about it blowing up. At MIR all of those woodbridge boosted hondas that blow up at the track and oil down the track, those are prime examples of a car not built correctly. Not saying your car is that, but I am saying you can add a few things to make it faster and better than other crappy ones out there. Just some advice.

    great video, I always loves the eg hatchbacks, I had two ef's and honestly it was too hard to get parts for them or anything that fit properly. With these cars that all goes away, buying a 92 hatchback with low mileage in a week or so. Plans of course are b18b turbo. For reliability in a Honda you either pick vtec or turbo but not both
