    Oh man, this brought back memories from my younger years. Before I went in the USAF, I worked for a man (Bill Ray) who owned about 2000 acres in Missouri. Worked for him several years. He was also a Vigortone distributor, and ran a custom feed business on the side. Remember all this stuff oh so well. Lol
    Great video mate.

    Nice video, I grind ear corn for the cattle and a load of laying mash for the chickens. A lot of guys like to say how much hp there tractors have, I tell them bring em over and put it on the grinder and ill put the oats to her. That will make a tractor really talk. I have a 357 New Holland Grinder/Mixer, and I to think there the better mixer. Love your hydro, Farm on, and we'll see you next post.

      Now that's my kind of mean trick with the oats. I would never buy a mixer that isn't New Holland. We even have another in the barn for parts. I need to make more Hydro videos.

    nh352 is a very dependable mixer. we had had one and a gehl 95 and jd400 but i preferred the 352 because it has that double flighting in the unloading auger. the gehl unloads too damn slow. i used to grind 3 batches every 3 days. the calf feed i added 2 wheel barrows corn silage in that back hopper, had to weld flat stock bars to the vertical mixing auger to make it work. the ih560 lived it's life on the nh352 but as you know it takes power to grind shelled corn! the farmall m would overheat. i miss planting corn & grinding feed alot. thanks for uploading this!

      In my opinion, New Holland had the best grinder mixer design. On other manufacturers, my biggest issue was how they set up the unload auger. I have a weird feeling they could easily fall off. Sounds like you mixed a lot of feed. Ear corn seems to be the power hog, which I forgot to add the little bit we have from sorting and bagging. Most of the time we grind with a three cylinder Ford, but the Hydro was easily available and I wanted to remove the loader.

    Grinding feed is something I havent done in over 20 years. I kinda miss it, always enjoyed doing it.

      I guess it is relaxing. Taking corn out of the wagon makes fast grinding, but when we pull out of the bin, if we aren't running the sweep, its a lot wait of hoping the bin auger stays functional.

    I haven't done that in a long time ! I've been trying to get my uncle to buy a grinder mixer but so far he wont do it yet. That 84 hydro makes a great baling tractor , I think that's what IH had in mind when they built them ! Mowing , Raking and baling the Hydro was really great for these jobs and the hydro makes getting ground speed just right ! Bandit

      @boehmfarm4276  7 років тому

      Does he have animals to grind feed for? I used to mow and rake many acres with the hydro; it was wonderful, but the Ford 2810 moves down the road much faster.

    • @banditfarmer1900
      @banditfarmer1900 7 років тому

      My uncle has about 10 cows and he buys feed and a couple of Alpackas (?) and ducks and pigs for the fair. He has a grain bin to store corn in but he doesn't think he needs a grinder mixer so he wont buy a grinder mixer. Only one bad thing about driving a tractor fast on the road, Its eats the tires up fast ! IH had a really good idea making the Hydro tractors but they got a bad name because guys would try to do heavy field work with them and it would burn them up inside. But use them for what they were designed for and they would last a long time ! Bandit

      Where can I get parts for like a grinder like that

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 2 роки тому

      Yeah the hydro's were GREAT for that sort of work... Too many guys bought 656's and stuff and thought they could use them for a plowing tractor or doing heavy tillage and stuff, and burned the hydro's up... they're not really meant for that-- too much power pouring through the thing it gets scalding hot, the hotter a hydraulic system is, the shorter the life of the components... but for light tractive work (dragging a baler or rake or mower across the ground rather than plows or disks through it) even with a fairly hard PTO load, they're fine.
      That's one thing I sorta wonder about with these CVT's... oh, they're nice, no doubt about it, and they can handle the loads of high horsepower engines and heavy pulling loads like tillage fine, *but for how long?* I mean, they're basically a marriage of a hydro with a powershift, using the powershift to transmit MOST of the power through its clutches and planetaries, and using the hydro part to either speed up or slow down the input gearset to obtain infinite speeds... BUT that means that the hydro is taking part of that load, and the heavier the load overall, the more the hydro is having to take...
      Oh well I can't afford one and don't need one so I guess it don't matter much... just one of those things that make you go "Hmm..." I guess the companies and salesmen have convinced a lot of guys that they HAVE to have it, so they're selling plenty of them... sure is complicated and when it breaks you better have the banker's number handy LOL:) Oh well...
      Later! OL J R :)

    Isn't the salt and mineral post togo threw the side of the mixer so it doesn't go threw the hammer mill that's how I thought it was post tobe?

    hi Boehm Farm, Great video. Really enjoyed it. So much I have liked it and subscribed to your channel. I particually like at 1:40 were you walked around the grinder. I enjoyed you showing us your farm operation. I thought you put the point across well. I was as I was growing up raised on a mixed farm of arable, pigs and beef .Like yourself I like sharing skills and knowledge. i
    have had apprentices and young people work with me. To share some of my knowledge I have set up my own you tube channel. You should check out. Well many thanks for a great video. Keep the good work up. Look forward to future videos.

    we have a 352 like yours, for a worn out grinder it works pretty good. The only grinder that worked better was a Deere 300 I believe it was, but it was way to big for our farm.

      We have a worn out one in the barn for parts. We had to have one person hold a pry bar to make it unload. This current one looks tough on the paint, but seems less used.

      I am surprised at the hydro's three point lift capacity. Unfortunately, the hydrostatic transmission isn't designed for heavy pulling.

    Gotta love dirty corn. I got some from the elevator one time and I had to take a box fan and blow all the dust out or the cattle wouldnt touch it. I bet that Hydro is nice for hay! How long does it take to grind 4000lbs

    • @boehmfarm4276
      @boehmfarm4276  7 років тому

      Surprisingly, the local elevator accepted some of the last corn I harvested in February, which was very dirty. They only docked me for a point on moisture. If we had more hay at home, it'd be great. As most of it is away, the Hydro is for want of road speed. I once mowed and raked many acres of hay with it. Since we have accumulated more tractors, the Hydro is married to the 2250 loader and stays home. Now, on square bales, it's all our blue three cylinders. I did have my uncle drive the Hydro on the square baler once, and he got antsy and kept pushing up the speed lever. I found myself doing the opposite while mowing hay, I'd mostly pull the lever back slower. With a gear transmission, the choices are limited, and maybe for a good reason!
      I've never purposefully timed grinding feed. Rough guess is that it took a half hour or less of corn flow into the grinder to fill it. Pulling from the bin can easily double that because of unload auger limitations. So, an hour?? All I know is that taking corn directly from the wagon is much faster, so much faster that I feel rushed in getting all the soybeans, salt and mineral in. I even forgot the little bit of ear corn on this load.

    • @boehmfarm4276

      Salt will rust it out. The mill has enough material flow to clear out the salt.

    how long have you guys had that IH hydro? any complaints? would you buy again?

    • @boehmfarm4276
      @boehmfarm4276  7 років тому +2

      About 15 years. I think its great. The infinite speed control and shuttle like shifting between directions is perfect for loader work. It's most important to remember that the hydro isn't for heavy pulling, so no tillage work. I would buy again. Have I seen any that I would buy, no. Usually they were paired with loaders and used extensively.

    where do you guys farm at?

  • @markheitzman4588
    @markheitzman4588 5 років тому

    Wish my gehl would grind like that that seems like it is taking it but the way you add the soybeans and mineral that wouldn't fly with me but your probably using a much coarser screen so you could do that

    • @boehmfarm4276
      @boehmfarm4276  5 років тому

      We use a half inch screen for ear corn. I won't add salt in the back of the machine because that doesn't see enough material flow through to remove the salt. Pouring salt through the mill will be followed by many bushels of material to clear the salt. For the same cleaning action, I would have to recycle buckets of feed through the supplement fill on the back.

    • @markheitzman4588

      @@boehmfarm4276 I guess I'm glad my gehl grinds the way it dose I run 1/8 for dairy cow and pig corn feed 1/4 for steers 3/8 for roasted beans 1/2 or 5/8 not sure what that one is don't use it too often for ear corn and then the big one 1" for the goats feed. Wish I had a bigger tank so it wouldn't take so long to make 25k to 50k of feed for the week 100 bushel tank doesn't take long to fill
