This video saved me! I wanted to also note that in order to turn my latch to the close setting I had to remove another white piece that would allow me to turn it.
Ken; my skimmer is flowing water into my pump basket after backwashing a sand filter. I did check to make sure I put the backwash valve back to off and all was good for about an hour until I 'heard' the excessive water flow and saw the skimmer basket full of water as well as the pump basket and the water line looked like the pool was being drained. I tried to email but it bounced back.
Typically most all of the newer pumps over the past 15 years or so have been self priming and I’ve never had a pump that didn’t self prime. As long as you haven’t left the pump lid open too long or you’re system is not sealed. Then it may need to be helped out.
2nd season owning an in ground pool. Looking to buy a solar cover. What do you recommend for a high wind area? Top of the hill makes for a great view and a lot of wind 😑
It's probably coming from the return side. if your pool equipment is below the pool water level then it will do that from both sides (suction and return) typically the builder should have put in check valves to prevent that from happening.
I actually re-plumed my pool with shut off valves so it wouldn't happen. Watch my video on getting to know your pool and you'll see my "improvised" system. Here's a link: ua-cam.com/video/S19NAl77Z5k/v-deo.html
This helped so much. So happy to have finally come across your video. I’ve been searching for this answer for weeks. Do you have advice or a video on how to do this, if they have an actuator??
Hi Ashley, I’m glad the video was helpful. If I’m reading your question, right, you’re talking about an in floor pop-up cleaning system that has a dedicated pump to drive the pop-up heads in which case there’s typically only one pipe on the suction side of that pump drying water from the pool into the pump and then returning directly to the actuator and pop-up heads. If that’s the case, and there’s no valve on that suction pipe, you might be out of luck but, you could contact a pool repair person to come out and put a valve in that pipe so you could shut it off if you needed to, making sure that you always opened it back up once you were done opening that pump lid and emptying the basket. Other than that if that’s the situation, you can’t really stop that water from flowing in there. I hope that helps.
That's tricky, and one reason of several why I don't like the "automated" valves. I'm very familiar with them. There is a way to move it via a toggle switch on the bottom or side of the valve but it can be tricky. If you shoot me an email I'll try to do a quick video to show you how. kennypoolschool@gmail.com
I have a surge tank that when I shut off the power to the pump the water rises instantly and overflows from the surge tank really fast .anyone ever experienced this and have any idea what is causing this .
Kenny, Thanks for the message! My pool has a fine line. Only when the water is over the top lip of the skimmers does water back flow into my pump. Very happy that I discovered your channel! Thanks for helping us pool owners! Educational

Yes, some of the valves have a "stop" peg that you can remove.
Explanation starts at 1:40 after the two intros. 👍🏽

When you empty the leaf basket on pump do you fill the basket with water and prime? I’ve watched a lot of other videos say to do that

Hi, what if I closed all the valves going to the pump but water still rushing out when I open the lid? Thanks.

@@PoolSchooler So, the check valve is different from the return valve? because I have one after the filter that goes to the pool.
@@ikas.98 absolutely. It’s different.

What if the suction side valve is auto controlled by the panel? How do I close an auto/electronic valve?

Very good info thanks
Chris Michelson you’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
I don't have a shut off valve please help
You could install one if it's above ground. I don't have a video on that though. Sorry
And mine is a above ground and I have a hanging skimmer

Mike Wilson glad to help.
This happens to me and my pool equipment is quite a bit higher than the pool
Then you must have some sort of back pressure happening. Water does't flow uphill.
If you were referring to me, she is a he. Mahalo for the info!
Parkpill13 oops. Sorry my bad. Are you in Hawaii. If so what island.
