Absolutely awesome to see you out there with your dad. Like a lot of people have said enjoy every minute with him. Unfortunately I lost my dad 3 years ago to cancer and I wish I would have been able to spend more time with him fishing because he's the one that taught me everything about fishing. Great video is always love watching
I was watching an ice fishing video the other day and I was just bored to tears. Sitting in a dimly lit box pulling fish out of a tiny hole is probably entertaining in person but it sure makes for some lackluster video footage. The extra content on THIS ice fishing video kept me engaged. Really enjoyed all the MeatEater episodes I've seen with this host. Clearly an expert and passionate about his craft.
I watch way too many UA-cam hunting and fishing videos. Have to say your laid back, educational style is killer. I hate to show props to Canada but have to admit you definitely know how to do it right.
There is one thing I know as a Canadian kid, parents taking you to “skip” school for fishing or hunting. Best classroom for kids if any age. Thanks Jay and Dad
So awesome to spend that many years making memories fishing with your dad. Mine started me on my passion for fishing and the outdoors, while he kept it pretty casual I eventually got obsessed and went on to guiding. It's a huge part of my life and identity. lead me to many amazing places and people. I always enjoyed it coming full circle and taking my dad out to teach him how to chase musky around. Unfortunately I lost my dad to Cancer at 60 years old but those memories keep him close to heart.
Man, this is my first ice season away from my old man, this makes me miss him even more. This'll be the first season in a little over a decade we didn't get out together
Just came home from a nice overnight fishing trip at my local lake here in Germany, binging your Canadian Angler videos with a cold one after a fried perch 😁 Just happiness!
great stuff Jay! all of us guys who r your dads age still think we are your age so keep that in mind when you are middle aged! I prefer pike over walleyes any day too! more flavor for one.
Used to climb 20 foot ridges on erie to get to the perch grounds. But when you get em to 2 lbs its worth it. Great vid jay. Enjoy every minute with your dad !
Jay thought I’d let ya know I tried out your way of filleting walleye and I’ll never go back to any other way!! It was so painless and saved so much of the fillet!!! I’d recommend the pants leg technique to anybody!!! Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
After growing up in MB (family from St. Joseph) and fishing the Pas, Kenora and all over with my Dad chasing master angler fish it was great to see you taking your dad out to chase them.
i love your videos i'm a 70 years old and still live in the bush lol and i found the more you get to know an animal the less you want to kill it i'm to the point now were i can't even pick up a gun
Pike is the most amazing fresh water fish out there, and is my all time favorite. Used to catch them in Lake Cummins just south of Ely, NV. They are invasive and have a zero release law in Nevada, and despite having poisoned off the entire lake several times, even leaving it a year and poisoning it again, they would restock the lake with rainbows and right away fishermen start pulling out 24-40” northerns! It’s just off the highway and the cut that runs up to Cave Lake, and my gosh are they tasty!!! And tough as nail! Had one in the cooler for over four hours, opened it up and it was watching my hand and intentionally tried to bite me, so they stay alive for a LONG time after being hauled out, eight hours I can personally testify to. Yeah, that Y Bone is a pain to deal with, but so worth it once cooked!!! Pretty much the same technique I was shown when I was taught to fillet them, though I’ve seen others… that were a lot more wasteful. Good fish, good food!
Had a guided fishing trip this year and bagged a Pike and a walleye....cleaned cooked up both that night. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the Pike, and dare I say, it actually might have been a slight bit better than the walleye! I agree, a firmer flesh, very mild flavor. Great cooking fish.
I really like the Okuma CBR-1000s for my iFish sets. The pike don’t seem to notice the difference between free spool and the bait feed setting on these reels, but when the wind’s blowing hard, it helps keep the line on the reel.
I love eating pike almost as much as I do catching pike. As fun to catch and as tasty as any fish that swims. Only things I do different are 1) the five cut method and 2) I soak the fish in the Franks before I add the breading But your breading looks amazing
We had a feed of pike just last weekend, next time definitely going to try the honey garlic, great video, only 27 more business days and we will be there LOL
I'm on the most southern range of Northern Pike in Central Illinois 40 degrees latitude. Took me 7 years to get a 40 incher out of the Illinois river. It ment more than alot of fish I've caught. Looking for that 41 now lol.
When I saw the title I thought I'd be seeing big baits. But those little ciscos are a far stretch from the 12-15" mackerel we use for pike. How do you keep the small pike off your lines?
Awesome to see you spending time with your old man. And injoying the outdoors. You mentioned you use the Jawjackers. Just wondering what kind of rods you use? I keep breaking mine. Thx.
"O my goodness jay o my goodness!!"I just remembered Aaron saying that over and over again. Lol I really want to know if there is a story behind that, was Aaron making fun of you in passed videos?
Great father-son memories...thanks for sharing them with us.
Nothing better than fishing with your dad. My dad's my fishing partner and I wouldn't change it for the world
I cherish the days I get to go fishing with my Father. What a fantastic wholesome video!

Any fishing day with your dad is a great day no matter what you catch
Your the man Jay!! Sure a pleasure to meet Papa Siemens. Nice work fellas.
Man, this is my first ice season away from my old man, this makes me miss him even more. This'll be the first season in a little over a decade we didn't get out together
I do 99% of my ice fishing with my dad he’s my best friend and best fishing partner I could ask for!! Love your videos Jay you are the best UA-camr
Your Dad is super awesome! Treasure every day you have with him.
One of your single best videos, Jay. Memories all of us have had, or wished we had. Cheers!
Also how you talked about oil temp , spot on. Lots of UA-camrs let fish bubble in oil and wonder why it’s not good
Love the father-son bond you guys have, thanks for sharing it with us Jay!
Just came home from a nice overnight fishing trip at my local lake here in Germany, binging your Canadian Angler videos with a cold one after a fried perch 😁 Just happiness!
Great video. Cherish your dad.
Jay I can only imagine how proud your dad is. Looked like you both enjoyed the time
great stuff Jay! all of us guys who r your dads age still think we are your age so keep that in mind when you are middle aged! I prefer pike over walleyes any day too! more flavor for one.
Awesome. My open invite still stands out here in Sask 😉
Very cool of you to take your Dad. I hope to be as lucky one day... God bless! 😎👍

Hi from Syracuse NY USA everyone
Always a good time when you get to fish with your son.
Man jay is the best great information and great filmmaker
That was some great uncut angling!
Jay thought I’d let ya know I tried out your way of filleting walleye and I’ll never go back to any other way!! It was so painless and saved so much of the fillet!!! I’d recommend the pants leg technique to anybody!!! Thanks!!👍🏻👍🏻
Great to see you and your dad out together. Before you know it your dad will get to be out on the ice with his grandchild.
i have so much respect for “meat eater” and ill say it u have a home run with Jay! i’ve been watching him for years!
Watching your dad in the background was the best part, can’t wait to be him with my son.
Great Father and Son Day !
Such a good episode. One of my favourite.
Try the 5 fillet method on them gators. No bones and quick as hell. Great job brother and good to see you and your dad out on the ice.
As many times as I heard "foot off the bottom" I know what the new name for my alternative punk rock band will be. Thanks MeatEater!!
Caught my first pike through the ice from Jay's tactics two years back. Dude is a legend and so knowledgeable.
I didn't stop smiling the entire time. Everything about this is just so wholesome. Well done.
Great feature on MeatEater, and much deserved for Jay Siemens! Keep em coming 🇨🇦
Really great series, Awesome addition to MeatEater.
Nice burbot! I love these videos. Thank you Jay
After growing up in MB (family from St. Joseph) and fishing the Pas, Kenora and all over with my Dad chasing master angler fish it was great to see you taking your dad out to chase them.
Jay I love this series, love of good pointers and very entertaining
Nice work Jay!
Love pike! Almost prefer them to walleye and perch. That pan, however, has seen some better days, cast iron maybe?
I love these. Thanks and keep going!
So good Jay!
That Buffalo style fried fish looks amazing im going to try that today!! Great videos thank you for sharing
Heck ya!!
That filet knife is in desperate need of stoning though!

i love your videos i'm a 70 years old and still live in the bush lol and i found the more you get to know an animal the less you want to kill it i'm to the point now were i can't even pick up a gun
Pike is one of the best freshwater fish I’ve eaten

Heading to Colorado tomorrow for some ice can’t wait!!!
Great episode.
What an epic video!!! Awesome job Jay, of course expect nothing less.

you went with your dad, thats so cool dude. great video.
Looks like so much fun.
what i wouldn't give to go fishing with my dad ... enjoy that
Loving the fishing videos brother, your dad left with a smile on his face
What it’s all about!
Best meat eater vids right now, dad thanks for Patrick laine
The tip up in the shack would be so handy to multitask and play a board game on the side if the fishing is slow too 😂
I love eating pike almost as much as I do catching pike. As fun to catch and as tasty as any fish that swims. Only things I do different are 1) the five cut method and 2) I soak the fish in the Franks before I add the breading
But your breading looks amazing
Jay come to alberta lake athebasca and cold lake are home to some massive walleyes if you can find em !!!
Pike is actually probably my favorite freshwater fish to eat
When is Steve going to be on here with u jay?!
Nothin beats a big gator! My second to last video is a store brand version of this 😂
We had a feed of pike just last weekend, next time definitely going to try the honey garlic, great video, only 27 more business days and we will be there LOL

About 2:15, had no idea that ice could "stretch" / "tear" / etc like that.
Steven (from California...surprise!) .
Thanks for the videos!
enjoyed the catch and cook. thx
Just south of you on the south shore!!! Good video!
Great video man.
I'm on the most southern range of Northern Pike in Central Illinois 40 degrees latitude. Took me 7 years to get a 40 incher out of the Illinois river. It ment more than alot of fish I've caught. Looking for that 41 now lol.
I've never had "buffalo" fish. I've dry spiced it but never wet. Gonna put that on the to-do list.
I really hope Aaron wiebe makes an appearance on one of these episodes!
Great show.
Jay: These baits eliminate small fish
Jay:That was a hit and run from a smaller fish
Sure man
“Am I gonna die?, Maybe” lol
When I saw the title I thought I'd be seeing big baits. But those little ciscos are a far stretch from the 12-15" mackerel we use for pike.
How do you keep the small pike off your lines?
In my opinion pike from 19-22 inches taste the best 😁
I love selective harvest.
Jay when cooking the pike do you fully cook it in the oil or not quite
Season 3!
Awesome to see you spending time with your old man. And injoying the outdoors. You mentioned you use the Jawjackers. Just wondering what kind of rods you use? I keep breaking mine. Thx.
We NEED more videos!
"O my goodness jay o my goodness!!"I just remembered Aaron saying that over and over again. Lol I really want to know if there is a story behind that, was Aaron making fun of you in passed videos?
I am curious why jay isn’t using his buddy flex?
My favorite fish to eat
28” northern but yes still love the videos
keep it up !
