David is God's gift to all who listens very closely. He is extremely special at expressing God's love.
I'm a 49 year old father of three...not a religious man...but I know music. I think David is the best singer in my lifetime, no matter if you're talking gospel, pop, soul, whatever. His live performances put everyone else to shame. Every time I think I've seen his best, I find another unbelievable, emotion-eliciting performance like this one. It's hard to believe he's that good. Thanks David!

Tracy, I must agree with you. David is one of the finest Tenors. But let me say, his passion; that's very evident in his songs is who you need to investigate. The LOVE of Christ is there for everyone to find.
Tracy, I thought that I had responded to your post earlier today, but I guess not. What I said, agreeing with you that David Phelps is probably the most versatile Tenor in the world today.
You had said that you're not a "religious" person. Actually, it's not about "religion". It is, however about "RELATIONSHIP." The reason David can sing with so much passion is because of His relationship with our GOD. If you'd be interested in learning more, I would love to talk to you. If not, then enjoy David's gift.

David’s two boys are standing behind him singing. When he gets to the line through an open door you can see them very well. The baby is in the front and big brother is right behind him. They both look just like David. Precious!

David Phelps is our all time favorite singer. My husband wants his song "Goin" Home" sung at his funeral. We love the faith that exudes from gospel performances. David Phelps can sing any genre of music; and you can't help from being mesmerized by what ever he sings. He is a very gifted man.

The words are changed slightly to fit the Biblical view of death, eternity and God's Grace through Jesus Christ - David Phelps is simply the finest male voice ever heard and this combination of backup singers and orchestra cannot be found anywhere else - this is simply the #1 version of Goin' Home ever produced. I have heard them all. Whoever wrote the score to this version is a genius.

My mom had asked many years prior to her passing for this song at her funeral. Then ten years of dementia turned to full on ALZ. The morning after she passed, for the first time I looked up a UA-cam version of the song as I only had/have the sheet music Mom gave me. Listened to Sissel sing it and I bawled my heart and eyes out for at least 30 minutes. That was 4 years ago today. You sure picked a good song, Mom, who knew what that memory robbing disease would do to you. Love you more today than yesterday. See you again one day. Only discovered this recording this evening and melancholy comfort arrests my heart.
It might help you to understand David's classic album (this is from that album) if you also knew his sister and dear friend who had always sung back-up for him and with him and he idolized from a child was dying of cancer. That's why there's a bit of a focus on home-going on the album. Her name is Sherri Proctor - she had a beautiful voice. Blessings - I know you miss your Mom.

I was flipping through channels and saw this on PBS and stopped. I never knew this song had lyrics but I used to play it on the recorder at school. I always loved the tune, and now I know it has amazing lyrics. David's voice is also extremely fit for this song and I'm glad he performed it.
If you have had any involvement in music, or have just listened to a lot of singers over the years, you will realise that what makes David truly the greatest singer of all time is the fact this is LIVE.

We really need to base our theology on what the Bible says, and not on what people say who are confused.
Jesus told the thief on the cross, this day you shall be with me in paradise. Check your theology.

The lowest angel in heaven--if there is such a thing--can sing a hundred times better than David. he's good by earthly standards though. I just don't care for the applause, we discourage it in my church, however, it does happen sometimes, but I don't personally applaud anyone human. My favorite Christian writer outside the Bible says;
“The applause of men is the food that is relished by the perverted appetite of the Christless soul. Infatuated by a Satanic ambition to have the supremacy, professed followers of Christ are led on from one delusion to another until eternity is lost out of their reckoning. But he who lives godly in Christ Jesus will have no relish for the forbidden praise of men.” {RH, December 4, 1894 par. 7}

I have been fortunate to be able to see David 11 times now live in concert and have met him several times now, as well. I have met and had conversation with his dad at David's home during the labor day barn bash, and folks...he is the most genuine, real and gracious artist I have ever know or heard of. A humble yet insanely talented man. David is the best male vocalist, any genre, of our generation today. The best on the planet....in my mind there is no question. And he is real and humble, to boot. No one can do what he can do vocally regarding clarity, tone, resonance and especially range....and so effortlessly accomplished. As I said, 11 times live...I have never, ever seen him miss a note, crack, or be out of tune with poor pitch....he doesn't have a bad day. Just incredible.

My husband was trying the last few weeks of his life to get to this home. We did not understand, until we heard him conversing with God that Heaven was that home. He told us Jesus was the way to get there.
He held my hands and looked in my eyes, as he left and though not a word was said, we communicated through our hearts and eyes the morning he left for that beautiful new home. This song says it all.

I have been around singing my intire life . I have heard some of the best singing there is . Some are in small churches that never got to be popular or famous . Today quartets and other singers are very good . But I in 62 years of life have yet to hear ANYONE that can come close to the voice that our Lord gave to David Phelps . Simply put he is the best that I have ever listened to . To me he not only has the voice but also the anointing of the Holy Spirit that is vital !!!!

I have never left as David Phelps concert disappointed. The music from the Voice and commuting every song, WOW! God is praised throughout the whole concert. Then after the concert is done his kindness to honor the audience until the last person WHO WANTS an autograph and had a picture taken with him. Can’t get any better. David's voice is so beautiful especially singing this!!! I had this song played at both of my parents funerals and I have requested it to be played at mine. Has anyone else noticed that at times when David sings, his voice ceases to sound human but more like a beautiful musical instrument? I can only think of one other person that has that gift---Celine Dion. Just listen very closely to both and see if you feel the same as I. Thanks so much for this video.
