I'm a 49 year old father of three...not a religious man...but I know music. I think David is the best singer in my lifetime, no matter if you're talking gospel, pop, soul, whatever. His live performances put everyone else to shame. Every time I think I've seen his best, I find another unbelievable, emotion-eliciting performance like this one. It's hard to believe he's that good. Thanks David!
Tracy, I must agree with you. David is one of the finest Tenors. But let me say, his passion; that's very evident in his songs is who you need to investigate. The LOVE of Christ is there for everyone to find.
Tracy, I thought that I had responded to your post earlier today, but I guess not. What I said, agreeing with you that David Phelps is probably the most versatile Tenor in the world today. You had said that you're not a "religious" person. Actually, it's not about "religion". It is, however about "RELATIONSHIP." The reason David can sing with so much passion is because of His relationship with our GOD. If you'd be interested in learning more, I would love to talk to you. If not, then enjoy David's gift.
David Phelps is our all time favorite singer. My husband wants his song "Goin" Home" sung at his funeral. We love the faith that exudes from gospel performances. David Phelps can sing any genre of music; and you can't help from being mesmerized by what ever he sings. He is a very gifted man.
David’s two boys are standing behind him singing. When he gets to the line through an open door you can see them very well. The baby is in the front and big brother is right behind him. They both look just like David. Precious!
My husband was trying the last few weeks of his life to get to this home. We did not understand, until we heard him conversing with God that Heaven was that home. He told us Jesus was the way to get there. He held my hands and looked in my eyes, as he left and though not a word was said, we communicated through our hearts and eyes the morning he left for that beautiful new home. This song says it all.
The words are changed slightly to fit the Biblical view of death, eternity and God's Grace through Jesus Christ - David Phelps is simply the finest male voice ever heard and this combination of backup singers and orchestra cannot be found anywhere else - this is simply the #1 version of Goin' Home ever produced. I have heard them all. Whoever wrote the score to this version is a genius.
This song will for ever remind of my father... I had been singing it for a while, way before he got sick, and whenever I sang it, it made me 😞.Today I know.... my father went to be with the Lord.. He was a true warrior and an excellent example of what a real father should be.. I will see you in heaven papi😞
David Phelps is the best ever tenor in the world. David conveys the meaning of the song with such sincerity and belief. He feels what he sings, I could listen to him all day.
David deserves the biggest stadium in the world to fit his stratospheric voice! When he goes home (I hope not too soon), he'll be singing solo with the angelic choir in heaven!

My mom had asked many years prior to her passing for this song at her funeral. Then ten years of dementia turned to full on ALZ. The morning after she passed, for the first time I looked up a UA-cam version of the song as I only had/have the sheet music Mom gave me. Listened to Sissel sing it and I bawled my heart and eyes out for at least 30 minutes. That was 4 years ago today. You sure picked a good song, Mom, who knew what that memory robbing disease would do to you. Love you more today than yesterday. See you again one day. Only discovered this recording this evening and melancholy comfort arrests my heart.
It might help you to understand David's classic album (this is from that album) if you also knew his sister and dear friend who had always sung back-up for him and with him and he idolized from a child was dying of cancer. That's why there's a bit of a focus on home-going on the album. Her name is Sherri Proctor - she had a beautiful voice. Blessings - I know you miss your Mom.

I don't know about you folks here but it thrills my soul to hear David's version of "Goin' Home". It is wonderful that this young man with this unequaled talent has dedicated his life's work to the business of our Father ! I have asked my family to play this song by David Phelps at MY funeral . . .

I have been fortunate to be able to see David 11 times now live in concert and have met him several times now, as well. I have met and had conversation with his dad at David's home during the labor day barn bash, and folks...he is the most genuine, real and gracious artist I have ever know or heard of. A humble yet insanely talented man. David is the best male vocalist, any genre, of our generation today. The best on the planet....in my mind there is no question. And he is real and humble, to boot. No one can do what he can do vocally regarding clarity, tone, resonance and especially range....and so effortlessly accomplished. As I said, 11 times live...I have never, ever seen him miss a note, crack, or be out of tune with poor pitch....he doesn't have a bad day. Just incredible.

David's voice is so beautiful especially singing this!!! I had this song played at both of my parents funerals and I have requested it to be played at mine. Has anyone else noticed that at times when David sings, his voice ceases to sound human but more like a beautiful musical instrument? I can only think of one other person that has that gift---Celine Dion. Just listen very closely to both and see if you feel the same as I. Thanks so much for this video.

Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

The above vss. address what happens at death, and they do not speak of any resurrection. The idea that we don't really die comes from Satan as he told the lie to Eve:
Gen 3:4 And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die:
Adam and Eve did die, and they are still dead until Jesus returns:
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
We really need to base our theology on what the Bible says, and not on what people say who are confused.
Jesus told the thief on the cross, this day you shall be with me in paradise. Check your theology.

David, Thank You for sharing your talent singing, filling our hearts with message.
Used your song Going Home for my husband’s funeral. Feeling of peace listening to the words.
I listen to "Going Home " after breakfast to start the day "right" Then at noon to keep the day going in the right direction .
Then at night to thank God and David Phelps for the productive day and for a good tomorrow .
how are you doing Ruth, hope you're okay?
Beautiful. Praise God
Wonderful. Sang this at my father’s memorial celebration of life service.
how are you doing Robin, hope you're okay?
David's voice is so beautiful especially singing this!!! I had this song played at both of my parents funerals and I have requested it to be played at mine. Has anyone else noticed that at times when David sings, his voice ceases to sound human but more like a beautiful musical instrument? I can only think of one other person that has that gift---Celine Dion. Just listen very closely to both and see if you feel the same as I. Thanks so much for this video.
vcvaldez1941 I recently compared him to a male Celine Dion when explaining him to a friend! Glad I'm not the only that has seen this
vcvaldez1941 I can hear it. 😁
Sam T. Ok
interesting that you would bring up similarity with Celine, both sound nasal at times
I've no ticed the same quality in his singing, it's as though he's singing in more than 1 key ,his voice is God annointed ,love listening to him
He will always be my ultimate tenor. I’m inspired by him everyday.
This is such a moving song, very touching
When he sings this song, I can feel heaven's door open for just a moment and the breath of heaven upon us.
I haven't even listened to the song yet, (I have listened to it before just not the video from the DVD) and I am almost crying. I love this song! R.I.P. Pappy!! :'(

GOIN HOME ,written by ANTONIN DVORAK
as performed live by David Phelps
Goin home, goin home,I am goin home.Quiet-like, some still day,I'll be goin home.
It's not far, just close by,through an open door.Work all done, care laid by,Goin to fear no more.
Mother's there, expecting me,Father's waiting too.Lots of folk gathered there,All the friends I knew.
Nothing's lost, all's gain,No more fret nor pain,No more stumbling on the way,No more longing for the day.Going to roam no more.
It's been 5 months since my mom passed. I just heard this song..and it brought tears to my eyes.. this song ... is one I pray is how she went.
Beautiful...beautiful. This is amazing and so relaxing. Love it.
Ken, thanks so much for the lyric's. I have been searching on the web since I heard it on PBS. This is where I am in this moment. I didn't have to die to go HOME! Some call it nirvana, enlightenment, it's just Heaven! Blessings
Hi Pamela hope you're okay?
Beautiful. So emotional interpretation. Thank you❤❤❤❤
My mom wrote down what she wanted done for her funeral last year. She passed away peacefully in her sleep early on Saturday morning March 7, 2020. The family gathered in Arizona from all over to lay Mom to rest with my Dad on the 14th. Her grandsons Andrew and Adam sang Going Home. I was glad that I had already given her life sketch as I was weeping and unable to speak for sever minutes. I love you Mom.
Morning star lights the way. Restless Dreams All Done.
Shadows Gone, Break of Day. Real Life Just Begun !
There's no Break, There's no end. I'll Be Living On!
Wide Awake With A Smile, Goin On and On!
Goin Home, Goin Home, I'm Just Goin Home!
It's Not Far, Just Close By, Through an Open Door.
I'll Be Goin Home, I'll Be Goin Home!
I'm Goin Home, I'm Goin Home,
Lord I'm Goin Home !
Would greatly desire to have this played at my funeral service!!!
Actually, the music was composed by Dvorak, but the lyrics are by William Arms Fisher.

What a voice!, awesome excellence, the music doesn’t overcome the words.
I was listening to Dvorak's 9th Symphony and this melody was played in one of the slow movements. Didn't know they got their inspiration for this song from Dvorak!
Beautifully sung!
