I had to sacrifice myself today to go somewhere I didn't want to go. I offered it up even though I wanted to do what I wanted . But in the end I listened to our Lord and now that I listening to this now I get it

ragejinraver I rarely ever go out without it being a sacrifice. I don’t think I like getting out of my bed. I am guessing that my sacrifice has lost its value.

This is gonna sound so strange, once I found out Gods will, I know suffering on earth for faith, the prince of peace, and the Armour of God is Love. The gates of hell lock from the inside of the unbelieving hearts, and the key to Heaven, the Kingdom of Heaven is truly within. Faith of the mustard seed.

My question is: Father speaks of making sacrifices to God of our comfort and our convenience (speaking as a laywoman, here). Now, for example, I loathe going to the dentist, and put off regular check-ups as long as possible. When I think of a way to sacrifice to God, one thing that immediately comes to mind is, "Marion, call and schedule that dental check-up you are overdue for, for next week, without fail."
In a way, however, such an action may not be truly a "sacrifice," because even if I undertake the check-up in spite of my loathing of it, as a sacrifice to God, I still benefit *materially* from the act of going to the dentist for my check-up. Even an atheist may make regular dental check-up appointments.
I bring up "an atheist," only to ask the question: What if that which seems to me to be "a sacrifice," has as much to to do with making an offering of self to God, as it has to do with tending to my own physical health? May not such a "sacrifice" be seen as coming back to selfish motives?
And similarly, if I make an effort to pray regularly, and use as my motivation, not to offer a sacrifice of praise to God, but to save my own soul and the souls of my family, is that acting from a selfish motive, and therefore not a *sacrifice*?
In other words, isn't a mixed motive - a sacrifice of my time, attention, comfort, or convenience to God, and in addition to benefit myself materially - *no sacrifice at all*?

Marion Gardiner I also loathe going to the dentist. However, it’s Something that we’ve been given to keep us in good health, so to sacrifice it and go because it’s good for this body that God has given you even though the thought of going is awful I think is a sacrifice! (I’m also a lowly laywoman so this is just my opinion)
Every time I go to the dentist I’m offering it up for my family or something because I dislike it >so< much!

Lean about St. Louis De Montfort, True Devotion to Christ through Mary. She takes our untidy, flawed sacrifices to God and makes them much more presentable. Also focus on making sacrifices that are to the benefit of other people and not yourself (like the Dental thing). In your prayer ask God to purify your motives. Be patient with yourself. Keep watching these videos and pray the rosary daily. You will see progress for sure. God bless you.

In this talk, Fr R talks about giving up a lesser good for a greater good. Even tho you get a benefit from going to the dentist, you are giving up your immediate comfort in exchange, and that is what we are supposed to be doing: not deciding based on how we feel, which leads to lots of comfort and immediate goods, but on a rational decision about the greater good.

It will always be somewhat of a selfish motive, we are fallen humans. God knows that and supplies His Grace to cover the extra step for us. Don't think so much and just do it.
