    Great job on the dining room wall
    Definite design flaw on the wood burner, make the manufacturer aware, almost a warranty repair, nice job on the driveway

      We have said the same, it is a bad design, and I suspect many people have broken the glass, just as we did. I don't think it will be the only time we break the glass. The drive looks loads better than it did when we bought it. We have been told that the garden bank has snowdrops and bluebells planted in it, so that will be nice to see. Still loads to do, but every job makes it looks so much better.

    Great idea filling up the archway and using the old doorway again as now when you eat in the dining room, you won't see the kitchen - it's more private to enjoy a meal. Yard looks terrific, and as usual, Shelby is out there working hard alongside John haha. As for the woodstove glass - I won't call John a knob but I won't say I disagree with that haha. Lesson learned.

      😋 Well, I (John) will try harder next time and hopefully the replacement glass might last a bit longer than a couple of weeks 😂 Shelby, what you have not seen is how she won't leave the broom or jet washer alone when they are being used, always wants to play and attack them, I will have to try to remember to film her up to her antics 😀 We sold our last dining table when we sold the last house, and it will be good to see what size table and chairs we can get in there comfortably. Happy New year 😀

    Great idea to block the doorway, will make such a difference to the kitchen 🎉

      Definitely! It makes the room look bigger already. The Rayburn cooker will be coming out this weekend.

      @OurCountryRetreat We have an old Rayburn in our kitchen but it needs ripping out, but it's so heavy, need about 10 men to move it, lol 😆

    Great discovery! I would brick up the old window in a way that still shows the former entryway and the nice arch. Then, install a bookcase or something there. Great job!

      That is an interesting idea for the archway. We need to get the plasterwork off to take a look at the condition of the arch bricks, which we will video. Thanks for the feedback.

    Sorry the wood heater glass door has broken
    I’d be straight down to where you bought it for new glass door replacement hopefully under warranty
    It’s a shocking design flaw for that to happen. I suppose if you removed that internal handle that caused the problem it would be out if warranty
    Hope it gets sorted out
    Love to see more of the kitchen getting renovated
    Cheers 🥂
    Happy new year 🥳

      The design of the wood burner is poor, lots of people must break the glass by not putting that riddle lever away properly. We have ordered new character windows and doors for the house, so we will bring more news on that soon. Samantha has still yet to plan the kitchen design. Happy New year to you too, I bet your weather is way better than ours at the moment 😀

    Well at least that came off pretty easily and great discovery, it will make the kitchen much better regarding cupboards and surfaces and just the general flow of the house too. That bank will be lovely if it's full of daffodils in spring and bluebells in May. Those bricks would have dried out quickly if someone hadn't broken the fire.

      I have just ordered a 20 metres run worth of Photinia Red Robin hedging plants which will go nicely on the top of the bank, when grown they are a lovely combined red and green colour. It says they can go in the ground straight away, so hopefully by the summer they will have a bit of starting growth… And hey don’t you get starting about the fire getting broken 🤣

    • @roaminginraymond
      @roaminginraymond 7 місяців тому +1

      @@OurCountryRetreat red Robin will be great and if it's cut back slightly and regularly late winter or early spring it will get thicker too, plus it's evergreen so even better. Sam did tell me about the fire before you did. It was funny her calling you a knob 😂 but I have to agree, it could easily be done.

      @@roaminginraymond Ah you know the hedge type then, you sound quite an expert, so you can come over and cut it 😝Oh she had right go at me over it as you can tell from the video, I will await my time for Samantha to break the glass😜

    Definitely moving the door was/will be well worth it. As for that glass……. Sam is correct.😂😂
    That bank will definitely need some different bulbs in it the more you add the more you will get.
    Definitely look for flowers for the bees. There is a company that will send you the flowers that are correct for your area. Who know what’s next a bee hive or 2 who doesn’t love hunny

      Samantha has been on the look out for plants that will attract the Butterflies and the Bees, that is important to us. We have just ordered some red/green hedging for the top of the drive bank, which will be nice when grown, looking forward to getting that in. The blockwork for the old window is now fully in with the exception of the top row, which I have to brick in as there is not enough room for another pair of block rows.

    Yes, definitely doing the right thing there with the doorway. Makes a lot of sense to me. The driveway's looking tidy too. Good job! 👍

      Thanks Andy & Jan 👍 When the Rayburn stove is taken out the room will be quite large, and look forward to getting that out. It is disconnected now, I just need to empty it of fire bricks and move it.

    Block half way up, to make it a serving hatch ? And it also lets the light in.

    • @OurCountryRetreat
      @OurCountryRetreat  7 місяців тому +1

      That was suggested to us, but we need a solid wall in the kitchen for wall units. Thanks for the suggestion.

      Thanks for that Lee, I fully agree the door design is poor in that respect.
