I lived in Saudi in around 2015 and shopped regularly in carrefour so this was fascinating. Prices have certainly increased a lot. Carrefour has never been cheap but it’s popular with foreigners. Good variety, English speaking staff, clean and organised etc
I’m from Saudi and I totally agree with you, and I think it’s because of the worldwide inflation
@@FERASX12 well yes it’s worldwide but things like eggs? That has gone up way too much. I used to buy a tray for around 10 Riyals. That’s a 300% increase.

Saudi is reasonably priced compared to its neighboring countries but you also have to keep in mind that the wages aren't as high as in Qatar or UAE. Saudi was even less expensive 10 years ago, and beleive it or not, gas price back then was even cheaper than water which made most things cheaper as well.
Yes, we had heard that prices have risen in Saudi over the past few years, so thank you for sharing this information.
Our wages are also high, but not higher than them. The lifestyle of the Saudis and their preservation of money and trade are better than the Qataris and Emiratis. The Saudis do not live on their salaries only. They have several sources of income.

To Mandy,
We grow many other than potatoes, tomatoes and carrots.
Major agricultural Cities are Taif, Al-Madina, Al-Qassim, Al-Hassa, Hail, Al-Jouf and Tabok in the last tow cities we grow also Olives and produce an excellent and Luxurious Olive oil.
Also in the south region in Jazan specifically we grow Coffee beans and many others.
of course not to forget the Saudi Dates. 😉 Have a good time in Saudi Arabia.
Colour me odd, but I love these supermarkets' cost comparisons for food products.
My initial reaction is that costs are not that expensive, especially the beard dyes 😂
But, as we all know, locally produced, and most often consumed by locals, products are always cheaper.
And, I concur with other commenters, a big thanks for putting up the prices in so many denominations.
Take care.
It's always interesting to compare prices and see what others have to offer. At least now you know where to go if you are in the market for beard dye. 🤣
One thing that baffled us there was that Australian grown carrots were way cheaper than locally grown ones and surprisingly cheaper than they are in Australia!! How on earth does that work??? 🤔

I can say from my experience that Saudi is still the cheapest country in the middle east
Rent are half as compared to Qatar or UAE
Local grown fruits / vegetables / meat and products are cheaper as compared to the imported ones in other countries due the big size of country they can grow more local products
There is still a lot of unexplored Saudi tourist locations as they are more opening up and the investment power they have Saudi is the power house of this region
Thank you so much for providing this excellent information. We always appreciate local knowledge, and love hearing from people there!
Jeddah is cheap but Riyadh on the other hand 💀
I definitely don't agree with this. Keep in mind that residents in Saudi pay the highest VAT (15% while in the rest of gulf it is 5%) it certainly makes a lot of things more expensive than the rest of gulf and yes rent may be cheaper in Saudi, as an expat you get looted considering the dependent fee and visa renewal charges and overall Riyadh is very expensive! Jeddah on the other hand, still comparatively much cheaper (talking about the restaurant prices)

I’ve been buying groceries, and cooking my own food since 2017, in Abu Dhabi. I can’t stress enough, how much my monthly expenses have dipped ever since. Somewhere around the region of 93% lower, in-comparison to when I was eating out, or having takeouts, or worse, food delivered to my doorstep. Not to mention how much fun cooking is, along how much safer and healthier it is, to eat your own food.

Great video! I love grocery store price videos. They give me an idea of where to travel for good cheap food. I am a very frugal person and unfortunately these prices compared to where I live in Canada are very high. The only thing I found within my budget were the potatoes, carrots and the cheapest pasta. Butter and cheese seem very expensive. Even the peanut butter at $7.50 Canadian for a 450 g jar is ridiculously expensive. when peanut butter goes on special here in Canada you can get a kilo for $2.99 Canadian dollars! The coffee also seemed expensive. Unfortunately the price of food seems to be going up every day. Everywhere around the world. Still a really great video. I appreciate your hard work.😊

@@Hanadsrequiem your thinking is flawed. You must be very poor if you think like that. I actually earn 7 times more than minimum wage in my area which is considered an above average income but what about people who don’t like students, seniors and the disabled??Forget about Saudi Arabia but let’s talk about the rate of food inflation in general. Is it ok for governments to allow this exorbitant rate of inflation which some say is considered price gauging from these high end grocery stores? The CEO of these stores are getting richer and richer abusing of price gauging while blaming the global economy and while our seniors are starving and malnourished because they cannot afford the basics due to their fixed retirement income . Is that how you would deal with the problem? Tell an 89-year-old that they need to earn more money to buy the basics to survive in life? Personally I would not shop in these stores even though I am privileged financially. I would not only prefer to support local honest mom and pop shops but I don’t support these selfish price hikes from these high end stores. I also respect my hard earned money and would never throw it away . That is how people get rich while others stay poor!
Mom and pop shops don't exist in Saudi Arabia anymore because they became prohibitively expensive to operate. Also keep in mind that hypermarkets usually aggressively undercut each other in Saudi Arabia and ma and pa shops have been simply priced out of the competition. I know this for a fact because we used to run a shop in Saudi Arabia and things just got so bad, not only with prices, but also with regulations that do not apply to the big boi princes who run the hyper markets. @@Busybeeee

Comparing my grocery bill in Canada vs KSA. My grocery expsnse would be cheaper in Saudi Arabia. Canada has so many ridiculous taxes on food. Like the useless carbon tax to help save the planet and stop climate change. This tax is implemented on sales goods, farmers fuel, farmers products per pound transportation and EVERYTHING. So literally the food you eat has been taxed 5 times before hitting the shelf. So a load of bread (Cheapest no name brand is $3). I am hoping to move back to KSA in the next 5 years. I've lived in Canada my whole life, and under the current inflation, and federal government. It's literally a bankrupt country with ZERO future potential of growth or stability for it's citizens.

Thank you for sharing this information, as we know very little about Somalia 🙏😁
It was a lot cheaper before but still not bad
cheaper than Europe, The bulk buying options are cool. Wonder about the taste and nutritional level imagine its sound.
The food we tried was all tasty. It's definitely a lot less expensive than food shopping in New Zealand.
Make sure you make a stop at Jordan!
We are planning to go to Jordan in the next few years 😃😊
The tip water is clean and helthy in saudi arania but some people not sure if ther house water reservoir clean or not so its more safe for them to use water buttels
That makes sense. Thank you for sharing this information 🙏😊
Al-Kbous tea is Yemeni tea and it is the best❤
Yes, it is excellent! 😁😀
Hi. I'm about to go there in 3 days time and renting a car for the duration. Do Carrefour or other retailers/supermarkets sell cheap camping gear that I can buy once I'm there eg sleeping bags/cooking gear etc?
Love your videos btw......very refreshing to watch people mixing with everyday locals rather than typical you tubers given freebies as they stay in 5* hotels and take luxury tours for promoting them....they get very tedious unlike yours
I'll be watching more of yours before I depart!!
Thanks and all the best. Mark
Hi Mark. Thanks for the lovely response 🙏. If I remember correctly you could pick up things like cheap camping gear in the big stores like Carrefour. If you can't find what you want, just ask a local. They are so incredibly friendly there and will go out of their way to help you out for sure. Best of luck with your trip. Hope you have a fantastic time!
All the best, Lee and Mandy. 👍
Thanks very much for the reply 😊All the best guys and take care. M
Judging by the euro rate and the average costs here in Ireland it seems pretty good.
We found the prices quite reasonable.
I wish that u compare 5he prices to usa and europe
Thanx for this nice video
Thanks. That is a good idea 🙏👍
You should try Almarai المراعي very good Saudi brand
Thanks so much for the tip. We will try it. 🙏
The best brand 👍👍👍 i worked for Almarai for 21 years directly and for the owners also 🤲
The picture of the video shows a great well known Yemeni tea called Al Kaboos tea.
I didn't know it was Yemeni. It seems to be very popular there. 👍
@@FrugalTravellersThis is not Yemeni tea. It is packaged in several countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Yemen, and it is originally from East Asia.

Thank you for taking the time to comment.
(1) Saudi Riyal is about (0.27) USD as of Aug 2023. So these prices are very affordable for Expats with Income, Remote Workers, etc.
Thank you for sharing this information.
that's bullshit honestly. it is not cheap or very affordable as you say
actually the water in saudi arabia as long as it's from the saudi water company it is safe to drink but i would highly suggest a 3 piece American filter that costs about 190 riyal as somtimes water can get dirt or sand from the tank in your home as it's probably not cleaned regularly , but if you put a filter you should get a very clean safe water to drink
That's great to know. Thank you for that. As we are travelling permanently we use a small Sawyer water filter and a steripen to filter and sterilise our water. Your solution sounds perfect for residents there. 🙏👍
Born and raised here in Madina, Saudi Arabia..
Yeah it was less expensive 10 years but for me it’s still affordable than in Europe
Thank you 🙏 To us it seemed very affordable for everyday food compared to UK, Europe and Australia. Great choices too. 👍
yes they are affordable than all western countries. this is true.
Alkbous Tea 7:35 is actually a Yemeni company
We didn't realise! Thank you for sharing this information 🙏😊
Note:
- There is no income tax
- Electricity, water and petrol bills are very cheap
- There are no property taxes
" The average salary of citizens is 13500 SR/month = 3600$ " + " Financial support for every citizen monthly 2000 SR/month = 533$ "
Thanks so much for sharing this excellent information 🙏. It's great that there is so much support. 👍
@@FrugalTravellers You're welcome 🤍
Cause it’s a supermarket prices tend to be higher, but local shops are much cheaper….
Thank you for sharing that information. We now know to go to a local shop next time.
@FrugalTravellers you welcome 😘 local shops that mostly sell in bulks but they also sell by the piece, these area are well known in Riyad, ask any local person & he/she will tell you where
Welcome to KSA & enjoy your time 🥰
@@sre1065 Thank you 😁🙏
Fruit and veggie are heaps cheaper than Australia.
Plus it was good to see decent sized potatoes there. All the ones at coles and woolies now are rubbish since they pledged to cut down on waste AKA giving the customer worse quality food for the same price 😂
We've been buying potatoes from.Spudshed, and have had some enormous ones! It's great to get a 10kg bag for $6.99 when they're available.
A bottle of Saudi Vimto is $7 U.S. here where I buy it at a import market
Oh my word! 😯🤗
Only items wildly more expensive than here are tea n biscuits. But us Irish n English are addicts, at those prices we'd cut back a little... just a bit 😂
Hahhha, just a little indeed 😁🤣
My country 🇸🇦❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love it there 🙏🇸🇦❤️
5:29 6 rows is 1 riyal or 0.21 pounds in every bakery except for big supermarkets
Ah, that's great to know. Thanks for sharing this information 🙏😊
The comments are saying this place is on the more expensive side, but it's still much more affordable than prices in Australia.
Yes, and far less expensive than groceries in New Zealand!
Always welcome to Bahrain 🙏🙏💜💜🫡
Thank you so much! 🙏🤗 We had a wonderful time in Bahrain, as you can see from our many videos:

@@Imru_gamer Thank you 🙏🤗😃
I'm from Canada, I found most items in your video are cheaper in Saudi Arabia then they are here in Canada, some items like eggs and peanut butter, but everything else seems cheaper
That's interesting to hear. We'd like to travel in Canada and understand it can be expensive.
We're getting ripped off.
Bottled water in saudi is WAY cheaper than in the UK, thats insane.
That is crazy!
Thank you very much ..
by the way, bakery is too expensive in Carrefour. you will find better price bread everywhere else
That's great to know. Thank you so much. We love the bakeries there. 😍
The plan also calls for strengthening the presence of women in the labour force and easing Saudi hardliner social norms. "Our vision is a tolerant country, Islam is its constitution, and its moderation is moderate," he said when announcing the vision.
10 Riyals is £2.10 as of 11 August 2023
“I didn’t know they would grow potatoes in Saudi Arabia” is quite possibly the strangest comment I’ve heard so far….😭
Hahhha... but it genuinely surprised us! They grow potatoes in cold, wet countries like Ireland, Peru, and Nepal, and no-one would immediately think of Saudi Arabia as being a cold, wet country 😃🤣
Potatoes grow in anything lol they can grow them indoors too which is what I'm betting.
you will be surprise that saudi arabia is very large country with different climate we grow Mango , Olive , Corn , Brown rice in east province , coffee and alot of vegetable , and for fish east area fish is different then west area
Although it might seems these are affordable prices it has increased a lot after the pandemic, at least 25-50% to the result of putting VAT and overall inflation,
It's a shame that prices are rising fast and it's making it harder and harder for people.
they product good
The food was delicious!
