Idolatry and idealization are always harmful, they go hand in hand with the social pressure artists feel to wear masks to be perfect and not be who they really are. Because we still had hope that technology would be wild and then reality hit and we ended up getting stuck on social media. In the eighties we still dreamed of the future being out of this world. Now we know it’s mediocre. Aurora is not from Earth though. She seems so alien to me. She is beautiful.
Bo Burnham says it so well in his song the Internet. Honestly, no one could have explained it better. That song of his makes me cry every time I hear the middle part. Makes me long for the eighties and nineties.
I'm loving the more playful fun vibe of the entire album. It took a little time...I prefer the darker "sadder" songs lol. But I've since been 100% won over by the album. And after such a playful extroverted(by Aurora standards lol) album, I'm super curious to see what she'll do next. Actually.....I would LOVE an album with some heavier influences. She's often talked about her love of Gojira, as well as Tool and A Perfect Circle and Deftones, as well as heavy metal in general. It would be very interesting if she expanded into that kind of creative territory. I think there's definitely a way to let that influence bleed into her usual sound/vibe. And she's got a ridiculously powerful and versatile voice, so she could easily pull it off.
But can you imagine Aurora writing a song that has elements of Tool or Deftones? How cool would _that_ be?!? Hell, I'd be happy if she just covered a song by either of those bands...

Anyone notice that at 2:29 the group is moving around her very similarly to how they did in the Queendom music video, mean to showcase the power she has, and the love she gives the people in her Queendom so they dance around her happily as she says "you have a home in my Queendom", but the difference is that in this version there are people circling the outside of the group. The people can't leave the space of power and need for love. In Queendom it was a partnership, a home. In this it's a cult, a prison.
The image of people worshipping this light also brings to mind Plato's Cave, an allegory, where people have lived chained to the wall of a cave all their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall from objects passing in front of a fire behind them and give names to these shadows. They become obsessed with the shadows. The shadows are the prisoners' reality, but are not accurate representations of the real world. This perhaps could represent the inescapable warping of reality that happens in these cult like situations, unaware of the outside world. You can also see the focus on shadows at 0:54 and 1:54.

Yes, I saw the cult references too, especially with how everyone's similarly dressed and moving in unison. I wonder if that was Aurora's intention, because cults definitely can be "safe havens" where cult members' beliefs are validated, they are accepted and supported by the group, but at the same time the cult also draws them in and isolates them from their family/friends/real life and suddenly they're trapped. The comfort of the cult turns out to be temporary. If this was the intention though, I wonder what was going on towards the end, when Aurora joins the crowd looking at the...ball of light/moon and laughing/smiling. What was that supposed to mean?
I think her songs most always about love in some form or fashion or manner.. so to me it feels like she’s referencing Diana or Themis; both moon goddesses known for their demanding nature and associated principles. I could see them being entranced by the moon. To say the queendom is going dark..? Possibly, maybe.. I hope not.

Here's my interpretation of this clip:
- Aurora is playing our dear Artemis, the Greek goddess of the Moon (1:05);
- The scenes in which she appears in front of a light source represent a solar eclipse (0:33, 2:38);
- The scenes with red tones represent the "Blood Moon" phase of a lunar eclipse (0:51, 1:47);

After listening to the song a couple times and watched this MV, my interpretation of the meaning of temporary high is that it's not necessary a person, but a bad habit that you can't seems to fully get rid of. In the video, People are standing soullessly and watching the time funnel, implying that we all have something that keep stealing our attention, and wasting our lives. The things give us temporary high feeling, but you know it's not good for your health or life in the long term. When you try to get rid of it, it keep come after you. At the end of the MV Aurora push down the time funnel, meaning that she no longer want her life to be wasted on that temporary high.

OMG! I just got an email from the uni program I applied to and I shuffled aurora's album and this song came on and I opened my acceptance letter to this song! Will never forget this!!! I'm so happy! I've been stuck in the house with my toxic/drunk parents in a city lockdown cus of a snowstorm and I was starting to feel numb again (aurora is the only thing that's kept me sane), but I'm so happy now even if I can't feel the happiness! I am OBSESSED with the 80s influence in both the sound and visuals. One thing I adore about Aurora is that she doesn't limit herself to one genre or sound. She's so endlessly adaptable, while still carrying a unique character to all of her songs. I've especially loved hearing her style, lyrical ability, and vocal strength mature over the years. She's just such a phenomenal talent.

HUGE observation there! I definitely agree that could be part of it. This song seems to have a lot of layers to it. The MV suggests to me that time is some kind of god or idol. We fight it by trying to make time stop, but those attempts in themselves are only a temporary reprieve, because the harder you try to get ahead, the faster time flies. It will always catch up to you. So what is Aurora proposing as a solution to the striving?
If I had to guess, it has something to do with love, and loving as big as you can to as many people as you can, reaching out not with desperation to cling to your time in life, but reaching out in love to touch hearts. Maybe that is infinity, the ultimate reality. Loving and being loved.
It sounds to me like a song about a woman with ADHD. She might be hyperfocused on you and make you feel loved when you're still new and novel to her but will she still be there for you when she moves to another obsession? Maybe but maybe not. I don’t think she needs it tbh, reaching our hearts and souls through her music is a big achievement for her. Like her mother said when she almost rejected the offer to be an artist, something like, don’t keep your music to yourself use it for healing others.That’s what she does, and she is, a healer with her music. Aurora,Lorde,Ellie Goulding,Lana Del Rey & Marina are the rare gems of modern music. Ellie’s more popular and mainstream but her lyrical content in her albums Bright Lights,Halcyon & Brightest Blue are just mind blowing.

Incluso aunque no comprenda al full sus letras porque son bastante abstractas, su música tiene el efecto de curarme y hacerme sentir parte y continuar entendiendo el mundo en lugar de sólo llorarlo y lucharlo. También su música ha validado lo que siento por la naturaleza, porque los sonidos de sus canciones me llevan a sentires de mi mundo interno. Yo creo que esto ocurre porque es una persona que se muestra auténtica y trata de capturar su interioridad y lo que para ella es lo más importante, y nosotros somos personas similares con las mismas inquietudes y sensibilidades y podemos comprenderla incluso a través de sonidos. La música sí es muy importante y extraña y nos conecta.
