I thought it would be fun to make a trailer with archive footage of the battle of Kursk. Maybe I'll make more in the future about other famous battles of the Second World War.

"The Battle of Kursk was a Second World War engagement between German and Soviet forces on the Eastern Front near Kursk in the Soviet Union, during July and August 1943."
I remember reading about this battle around 15 years ago. WW2 in general has always fascinated me. Specifically the eastern front. This was certainly an epic battle! The Russians knew, for many months, that this German offensive was coming and built multiple defensive rings to prevent a breakout. This is a scale of war that few can even imagine today. Millions of men against one another and hundreds of thousands of causalities in just a few weeks. Terrifying numbers when you compare them to current conflicts. Would love to see more WW2 videos.

I hear that a real movie of Kursk is in the making. Stalingrad, Kursk and Berlin are what I call Meatgrinder battles. Not even Iwo Jima came close to the casualties of Kursk. Kursk was Germany's last chance to gain the initiative after losing at Stalingrad. Georgi Zhukov (One of few USSR generals not exterminated) came up with a plan to stop an expected German blitzkrieg. Once Zhukov had his position confirmed, he used forced labor to fortify his flanks. There were hedge rows, other tank traps, mines, artillery, sapper teams, well hidden reserves and people... lots and lots of people. Children had mines, babushkas had PKSH burp guns. EVERY person on the USSR side played a part in the battle. A large open expanse with essentially no cover became the biggest tank battle in history. It was highly machined German tanks versus throwaway USSR ones. (A T-34 was only expected to last ca. 40 hours in combat). Even as the battle raged, the USSR was still making more ordnance. The USSR won... but at a horrible cost. There were over 1 million USSR casualties and ca. 800,000 German ones. like Stalingrad in a way, this victory was pyrrhic.

The 1st Gulf War was easy by comparison...look at the losses here at Kursk?
All Governments (and the press) based there analysis ON The battle of Kursk...but look at the statistics AT Kursk....many men (on both sides) LOST for just a MILE of a sector of front...remarkable to read in a history book...but TRAGIC for all those involved...
And to see and be there...it’s JUST fields..miles of rolling countryside...a very humbling place to be..and I was there at a very similar time when there was a cloudburst too...awesome..and once again..very humbling
there were many soviet casualties thanks to light vehicles like the bt and t-60.
Tragic...and a battle of such total conventional war that has not been seen since the 6 Day War...and latterly the 1st Gulf War...
But compared to even the 1st Gulf War (that I was involved in) we didn’t have to fight for several days in bogged down trenches..the infantry fighting through strongholds defended by well prepared infantry (like the press wanted us to believe)...it WAS NOT the watershed they (the press, governments and the public thought)...But..the battle of Kursk...WAS...and it was EXPECTED...that each Nation would/should/will DO THEIR DUTY...
However this battle at Kursk involved nearly a million men that fought in many small battles that have now died with the survivors that are totally insignificant to any historian other than the individual

Because of 1 pilot got shot down in russian territory have got top secret documents that they attack at that time and day so the russian knew about their plan 1 mistake and they lose
