Seed Signer - How To Build And Use A DIY Bitcoin Hardware Wallet
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 жов 2024
- The SeedSigner is a do-it-yourself Bitcoin hardware wallet that can be constructed cheaply from very basic parts off Amazon. This video will walk through parts, assembly, initial testing, and creating your first wallet in conjunction with Blue Wallet on a mobile phone.

Didn't know that it was possible to build up your own bitcoin wallet. MIND BLOWN. I'm so glad to be part of this Bitcoin revolution.
Thanks a lot Ben! Best Bitcoin tutorials for sure!
Fantastic project! Slightly cheaper than the cheapest Ledge or Trezor device, completely open-source, and able to be updated as and when new tokens and standards come about.
One of the best wallets on the market, I would say the best one.
Very cool, this is what all "paper wallets" should look like!
Problematic that you need to expose your Xpub and risk all transactions being tracked. Both past and future.
Excellent tutorial! Best teacher on UA-cam. Thanks!
Awesome video. QUESTION: 29:13 You're filling in the printed QR sheet. I haven't printed a sheet yet (I don't own a printer, so I'm going to a copy shop to have a bunch of copies made). Based on your experience of making a QR code with SeedSigner, what dimensions would you recommend for printing the 29x29 QR template?
In other words, what are the dimensions of the QR code you made, and do you think it would be easier if the template was printed a bit bigger? Or not? If so... what dimensions? 3 inches by 3 inches? Something like that?
I think the SeedQR concept is BRILLIANT! I don't own a SeedSigner (I own a Jade), but what an awesome project. I hope it catches on.
EDIT: 44:13 I really hope people take the time to watch this video. As I watched your demo, I kept thinking about how amazing this project is, and then at the end, you summed it up so well. Bravo.
You did an amazing job with this video, great quality. I have one question, is it possible to create your own seed words like you writing them down from a long poem you know ?
No. The seed words need to be completely random, if they are related with one another or with anything at all they are not secure. Your seed is actually a really long random number, which is then converted into the seed phrase, using a standard list of 2000 or so words. The seedsigner lets you use a physical dice to make sure your seed words are truly random (makes sure the software didn't create any relation that could be used to find out the number).
So technically speaking you could get a list of words that work with bip39, throw them all into a hat, then randomly select all but the final word. You can then input the first 11 or 23 words (depending on how long your phrase is) and have the seed signer generate the final word - also known as the checksum. I didn't showcase this method because it was a bit too involved for the purposes of this video. I also didn't find documentation for acceptable words.
Mind blown. I'm on this.
Fantastic tutorial! Bravo! 👍🙏💪
Holy shit, this is what I've been looking for!
Great tutorial. Really easy to follow. I already built one and soldered the pins. What a pain in the butt. Where did you find the Pi with the pins already installed? I’ve been searching and can’t seem to find a zero with the pins installed. Looking to build a second one since I cracked the display while assembling the device.
This is so cool! Definitely trying it out
My concern with seed signer is Rasberry pi isn’t designed to be a security device, how do you know that your seed isn’t being written to storage or doing something it shouldn’t? A dedicated device with a secure element seems like a better idea.
Coming versions should allow to load the system in ram and eject the SDcard. So no more possibilities to write seed somewhere....
Same question here, the software should be audited :-). If the sdcard is mounted as Read Only then nothing will ever be written on to it, just read. This way all your input will have to be only in RAM, after the device is turned off, your information is gone.
It's really cool, thank you! I hope it does not save anywhere those image files to /tmp or swap partition and they are not ocationaly written down to the memory card if there is a memory preasure...
Excellent job‼️👍 Thank you 🚀
Thank you Ben!
Where can we get qr templates? link in bio doesn't work.
Xmr supported?
If I was to use this, (and didn't loose my keys in fire).. I'd use the QR code print out (once filed in) as a template on a piece of 316 Stainless steel.. ;)
Is this hardware wallet?
Thank you!!
Newbie question: Is this for bitcoin only or another crypto too?
No worries Andrew! You're right, this is Bitcoin only. Typically in terms of security, even if you have multiple currencies, I usually advise people hold their BTC on a bitcoin-only device. The reason for this is that when the firmware is more complex and works with multiple currencies, it increases the likelihood of bugs and attack vectors. Protect your corn 🌽🌽🌽
Because unless it is Bitcoin, it is a shitcoin!! people see alts going up and think they have long term value (without having a clue how any of it works).. Everyone learns this in there own time..
Great job!!!!
Thanks for the video. Please excuse my neurodivergence, but it's really bugging me: it's pronounced sadering (Soldering (AmE: /ˈsɒdərɪŋ/, BrE: /ˈsoʊldərɪŋ/)), and it's a soldering iron not a gun. Apologies.
Yes. I almost hit dislike because I got very very triggered by it as well. Few understand the pain
Haha thanks for letting me know. I was feeling awkward saying it the whole time - now I know why.
There is a thing called a soldering gun but it's not what you'd use for electronics (unless very desperate). Probably saw that in a hardware store or something and it stuck in the brain as the term to use.

44:48 imagine living in a country banning crypto (and so also blocking hardware wallet supply)
This is Huuuuuuge!!
Cool. Thank you
