Nice vlog Jon well done for the end result and your composure after a few lost at the start, I do learn a lot from you, thanks for sharing, good luck on next round 👍
Hello John. Like you always say on the way to Makins, it's a moody place at times but really moody! Your attitude to change ways of fishing / feeding shows attention to detail and has rewarded you! Great angling, tight lines 👍
I think I got so many of my predictions bang on in the morning! Forgot to add that Lagoon dominated with the top three off there, just one 100lb weight and 70lb framed, so a relatively low weight day considering the space and times we fished.
@@JonArthur Thanks for your reply. Makins not too long ago went through a really bad case of poorly fish and this was across all 3 phases. I have never found out what actually happened but the fishery and sport just totally changed and switched off? I know that it is on the selling market right now too! You didn't say it in this upload but Makins fish do tend to have smaller mouths considering the size of some of the fish. Well like I said trial and error but you sorted it out and that is what makes an angler a great angler! I do agree too that 16 metre pole limits should be a rule in all matches! One more thing, ,,,,,you still haven't gotten around to painting your top kits lol 😂 👍
I think it's just that the fish are old and wise and they venue is very silty so they feed when they want to. I really like the place as catching anything more than 50lb is not easy on a lot of days and 100lb is a mega weight. I mentioned the small mouths near the start and, yes, still not painted my kits! Every chance I get it rains... just like today!
@@JonArthur Let's be honest about most fisheries in the Midlands especially East Midlands you are out and out carp fishing as there are not many F1 dominated venues like you are used to targeting. Lol John, excuses excuses you know painting them gives you a definite edge and fishing at your level you know it makes sense! Tight laggey 👍
Well done Jon! Persistence and being willing to change paid off! Casters dead maggots long and meat short? Fishing’s a funny old game sometimes. Regards Bill
Another great enjoyable video Jon! Glad it's not just me that curses when I loose fish😬😆. 3 lost fish before you net 1 is tough to take! You showed great composure & professionalism to change things up & started catching. I'm learning alot! Thanks Jon. PS:Still wanna get a coaching session with you pal.👍🏼
The lake has been totally transformed now, desilted and only two little islands, one each end. Id start dobbing bread all over (even down the sides) and then try and catch on expander or corn over micros or maggots.
@@JonArthur thanks John, went last weekend. Had 3 carp and a dustbin lid. All on the method a few metres short of the island from peg 1. Only one other bloke fishing on the lake with me and he caught a similar number. Tough going, nothing on dead reds, corn, or bomb and pellet. First time fishing the lake and very impressed with the fish in there.
I used 14-16 Slik mugging on the day and actually used red 12-14 Core for general fishing on the deck. I'm swapping between Slik and Core a bit at the mo as sometimes Slik stretches further than I need it in summer with a standard long kit. Love 10-12 Slik for F1s etc but when I'm stepping up to 12-14 for carp I use both types. For bagging it's green 16-18 and red 18-20 Slik all the way for me! (for now!)
Hi Jon another great video thanks. I am not in social media so other than a message here am stuck. I just wondered if at some time during the 4 different seasons of fishing matches. Could it be possible to do a video say from draw to match readiness on commercials as one of my biggest failings is over complicating my match and tactics and never ready at all in. If that makes sense
Call the police It's criminal the mugging you do!😂sorry mate couldn't resist that one.Great video I'm a real fan of the Green Swim stim pellets/groundbait and the pellet soak it's a bit of a catchall Carp, Bream and Tench all seem to love it
Tut tut swearing like that Mr Arthur when your little girl is on the video, I'm a mugger to and it's a bugger when they come off after literally hooking themselves. Well done anyway Jon, keep on muggin 😂
Welcome result which is what your after in reality. Losing fish is part and parcel at this time of year, but as you showed small changes make a difference. Watch the blood pressure 🤔🤔
It's only natural to have a good rant when it goes tits up.no idea how the hell you handle that pole at 17.5 metres. Well done Jon. Very entertaining and i loved the film alot.
I'm still at the start of the video but the high frequency of subtitles is a bit off putting. Bit of a bigger that match John, good luck for the next one.
You all right our kid, who stuck em on reptile. i did billy to keep them away from your prize stock......good thinking our kid you wouldnt want them on lake 2 in match heaven...no billy you wouldnt..........any clonking big roach out....no billy theyre all carp.
Persistence and the willingness to experiment with baits and tactics won the day, great match fishing Jon. Good luck in the next round.
Thanks, I won my section and lake on Round 2! :-)
brilliant viewing during the covid period , easily the best fishing show about... great stuff JA !!!
Many thanks Richard. So nice of you to say that :-)

well done mate, tough day but turned out ok in end ;-)
At makins in the early spring/ summer I use muscles, when the fishing is slow they have caught me fish when no one else could catch
Shhhhhh! Great tip! ;-)
Well fished there Sir. Thank goodness for Casters?
Yes gotta be my favourite all-round bait and we sometimes get preoccupied with pellets.
Brilliant blog
Cheers Tommy
Will you be doing some river videos when the season starts?
Yes, hope so!
Hi John, how would you approach Makins/this lake in the winter?

If the fish do not want to play it seems no matter what, the only thing is to change all the time
I have more beeps in a match than you do. Good result in the end.

Mugging can be a mug's game, ha ha!
I'd give up on the mugging game pal. 🤔😭😂😂
Yep, some days they do, some days they don't. Can't believe I had 177lb on that lake just a year earlier!
Are they the compact keepnets or the carp ones ?
2.5m Compacts
Hey Duggee....... brilliant. Ha.
Hey Duggee is the best!
Great video Jon I think you better take Zen Buddhism up. Your stress levels must have been going through the roof lol 😂 👍
Ha ha, yes indeed. Fishing = relaxing. Match fishing = stressful! :-)
Love the swearing. Lol where did ya get them rubber hooks

Great informative video, but no need to put the subtitles at the bottom or whatever you call them, it does spoil it a little bit.
