Makes - 5 (1 litre) Containers
My Meal Prep Glass Containers - amzn.to/3KgqpDM
Chicken & Pasta -
2 Tbsp (40ml) - Olive Oil (Divided)
750g (1.6lbs) - Chicken Breast or Thigh (See Note)
2 tsp (5g) - Onion Powder
2 tsp (5g) - Garlic Powder
Seasoning To Taste
750g (1.6lbs) - Penne or Pasta of Choice
Basil Pesto -
2-3 - Garlic Cloves, Minced (See Note)
30g (1.06oz) - Parmesan Cheese, Freshly Grated
30g (1.06oz) - Pinenuts, Toasted (See Note)
1/2 - Lemon, Juiced
2 - Bunches Basil, Picked + Stems, Chopped
1/2 Cup (125ml) - Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Seasoning To Taste
Recipe Notes -
Chicken Thigh -
If using chicken thigh, sear for 4 minutes on each side and instead of baking for 13 minutes, do so for 16 minutes.
Garlic -
The flavour from 2 garlic cloves would be enough for most palettes. If you really like garlic, use 3 cloves. Like is said in the video, it's easy to add but once in, it cant be removed.
Pinenuts -
Pinenuts can be very expensive and can be substituted with a wide range of nuts such as macadamia, almonds, cashews and walnuts and pistachios. If allergies are a concern, they can be left out completely.
To store, place the containers in the fridge for up to 4 days and in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight, before reheating or taking it out with you.
It’s recommended to freeze and thaw overnight when needed, especially if you know you won't eat it all within the 3-day time period
To heat, place in the microwave, pop the air vent on the lid of the container and heat in bursts until the chicken is hot in the centre.

I really appreciate that Jack doesn't follow the silly trend of wearing plastic gloves to prep the chicken. It's wasteful and pointless. Props to another great video. It looks delicious!
Thank you 🙏honestly I have done in the past but that was due to skin irritation from
Working in commercial kitchens. Now my hands are healed I’m good to go 😊
I highly recommend growing your own basil especially if you make a lot of italian dishes. It's easy to grow and keeps your kitchen (you can grow on a windowsill) smelling amazing.
It definitely helps save money as a single bunch of basil is like $5 here in Australia right now!
Pasta recipes and rice bowl recipes are always my favorite coz of the amount of variety that can be done with em. Great watch as always! And i know meal prepping can get boring as the years go by but the amount of convenience midweek is unbeatable and with awesome recipes like this you're able to make something that's still healthy but tastes awesome without having to get stuck in the routine of the boring monotonous recipes.
Hey jack, im a student so your meal prep videos are a life saver, but like most dorms room mine doesnt have an oven, so it would be amazing if you could maybe put alternative cooking methods in the description. Anyways great content as always!
Thank you! I’m glad they’re helpful to you. In future, I’ll start adding alternatives if I’m using an oven. Ill also add it to the description of this video when I get a chance 😊
This is so true
Obviously I'm not Jack and he can delete this if he doesn't think it's helpful or prefers to provide his own amendments but for this recipe you can toast the pine nuts (or any unroasted nuts) on a pan over low heat until they start turning brown and for the chicken, either butterfly the breasts or place them between cling film and use a meat hammer to bash them into a thinner and fairly uniform thickness so it cooks evenly and quickly enough so they don't become dry.
You can always finish cooking the chicken at a pan. With just some practice you will find the appropriate cooking time. You can also cut it in smaller pieces so you are sure it will be fully cooked. You can also put the peanuts in the pan and move them as they are being cooked so they dont burn!
grab yourself an air fryer on the cheap. :) make foil parcles for the chicken to keep the moisture
I just recently found your channel. I haven't tried any of the recipes yet. But I really appreciate the style of your videos. Short and sweet and to the point. Too many other channels want people to watch several minutes of food simmering and blending.
I’ll never drag out a video as i agree, it’s annoying sitting there and watching excess stirring haha. Glad you enjoy the style and I promise you’ll enjoy the recipes 😊
Thank you so much for these meal prep recipies. I'm a nurse so don't have a lot of free time to make food but I love on a day off being able to prep my meals for the rest of the week to ensure I'm eating good food and not always grabbing something unhealthy from the shop.
❤️🙏🙏
This looks really good. And as for your video editing and extra info, superbly done. Remembering the early days of posting, its lovely to see how you've progressed over time. Keep at it man, nothing but the very best is for you. 🙂❤
I really appreciate that! Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for this I made it tonight and I was pretty impressed Super easy to make, and taste pretty good, and I made my chicken in the air fryer instead I'm looking forward to upcoming meal prep recipes 👏🏽💯
Happy to hear! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
,"Some basil would be good"😂😂 basil pesto is something so comforting and delicious... another awesome recipe...loved watching you enjoy it😋 Thank you Chef Jack...take care and stay safe 💕💕💕💕
Haha 😂 It definitely helps having some basil for this one. Thank you as always, Smita! Take care and stay safe too 🙏
You’ve just fed me for…months man , I’ve just moved into my first home with my fiancé & it’s about time we start the cook book !
I’ll let you guys know how it tastes :) thanks again for this wisdom 😁🙏
Man, hats off for the quality content. I've watched a bunch of these meal prep videos now and I love how there's no messing around, the recipes are super simple and taste great. They fit perfectly into a busy lifestyle
Much appreciated! Glad you’ve been enjoying them 😊🙏
love how how he doesnt waste the scraps always says a way to recycle the scraps or use in another dish love this page
Just done this for my weeks meal prep and my just changing a few ingredients I've managed to get it under 350 calories per serving ,amazing as ever mate
Very nice! Which changes did you do to cut it down so much
How?
Tip I learnt whilst working at an Italian restaurant.
Pulse the pesto when blending because if you just let it blend you will cook the basil slightly creating a bitter taste.
Mate, the effort that you put into this channel and your videos is amazing. Keep killing it mate. Well deserved.
I really appreciate it! Thank you 🙏
Perfect timing
I have lots of basil in my herb garden. Ty great video.
It’s a pleasure! Please enjoy
The pesto sauce looks delicious and I'm sure it is!!!!!!!💖
It’s so good
Your meal prep is so fabulous
I make all the different meals on one day and have enough food for the whole month
Saves me so much time
Continue with more recipes
I love it 😀 ♥
Love that! Nice work. Glad you've been enjoying them. Ive got hundreds more to come.
Loving the new prep videos! Please keep making more! Already working on trying to make these regularly each week
Happy to hear! Thank you. I’ll be making them indefinitely for now 😊
thank you for all the detail you put into your vids
It’s a pleasure! Glad you enjoy it 😊
One of my wifes favourites. And If I meal prepped it, we would be eating it every day (that might not be a bad thing) 👍
Haha. Brownie points 👌
I cannot watch your videos when I haven't eaten. The meals look so good.
Glad you think so! Thank you 🙏
Thank you. I made it tonight with Costco's rotisserie chicken and linguine. It was yummy.
Very nice! Glad you enjoyed it
Notes to myself for next time:
-use 1 whole small lemon
-use all stalks
-half the pasta
-toast the pine nuts in a pan and stir continuously
👌👌
As a university student that sometimes struggles with what to eat, your channel has been helping me for weeks now so thank you!🙌🏾 Also, can you do some sweet recipes as well? Would really appreciate it.☺️
That’s awesome! Glad it’s helpful to you. I’ve kind of stayed away from sweet recipes for a while as they don’t do well and cost a lot of money and time for me but I’ll see what I can do 😊
@@ChefJackOvens alright thank you so much!!
OMG Jack - that looks tremendous 👍👍
Glad you think so!
The meal prep range idea is a good one, mate and adding that nutritional information for the meal is great.
Glad you enjoy it!
Tried 3 or 4 of your recipes now and every single one I loved!
I just made this and it came out so delicious!! Thank you, Jack.
That’s awesome! Glad you enjoyed it
“To taste 👅 … obviously don’t taste the raw chicken 🐔 “
Hilarious! 🤣
Thank you!
Haha 😂
I did your chicken mealprep recipe, it was awesome! Now i’m going to do this one next week 😃
Please enjoy! This ones amazing
Made this and served some roasted grape tomatoes on the side . . . YUM! Thanks for the recipe and I really like the new format for the nutritional information.
Glad you liked it!!
Love all of your pasta recipes, Jack, and this one looks amazing!🤤 Pasta is such a weakness of mine 😄😅
It's so good!
Please make more chicken pasta meal prep videos, ideally high calorie too 🙏
I love this! I make something similar but I add zucchini and cherry tomatoes, adds volume makes it more healthy and goes really well with the pesto.
Very nice additions 👌👌
Always a great dish from you, chef.
Thank you so much
I just made this, it took me 2 hours. I torched the pine nuts in just 2 minutes. Parchment went with it too. Broil on low. Didn't preheat the oven for the chicken. Didn't have a big enough bowl to mix this amount of food. I made 4 meals with half of it. Ate the rest for dinner. Forgot to add it was fcking delicious, definitely don't forget the lemon squeeze at the end as it makes it irresistible.
Another bravo job, chef! 👍
Thank you 🙏
Hi Jack,
Just thought I'd drop a comment to say I love your meal prep Mondays and can't wait for more recipes, you're very informative and have motivated me to cook meals each Sunday to prepare for the week.
Thanks mate lifesaver
That’s great to hear, Dylan. Glad you’ve been enjoying them 😊
Great video! Just a small correction, searing the meat does not keep moisture locked in. That is an old wives tale that is probably one of the most common myths in cooking. It DOES add texture and browned flavors, and is still a good idea.
best chef on UA-cam by a mile love all your recipes and the way you show us how its done.
What do you recommend against or when the pasta and sauce become too dry when it stays overnight
Thanks mate. I could really eat that at work right now. I brought scottish stovies to work to eat but someone got into it before me and ate all the sausages 😆. So ive had a plate of peppery potatoes. As always mate appreciate your time in sharing. Another one for the vaults of Jack Ovens.
Always a pleasure mate! Did someone eat your lunch??!!
@@ChefJackOvens lol yeah but I know who. It's all good👍
Haha fair enough! That’s my fiancées biggest fear, someone stealing her work lunch haha 😂
@@ChefJackOvens I'll keep my fingers crossed she always gets to eat at lunchtimes. That's my gift to her 😆
Thanks
Thank you so so much! You really don’t have to do that. It’s extremely appreciated 🙏🙏🙌
Great video, basil is so expensive here in the U.S. 🙄
These meal-prep videos have been a boon for me who likes to batch cook for work lunches and was looking for new ideas.
Happy to help
@@ChefJackOvens I’m trying other recipes of yours too. The creamy garlic chicken is a favourite!
interestingly, if you make the pasta some shirataki noodles this could be a low-carb recipe for diabetics on keto like me :) love it--ill try this soon! 😊
You are a life saver for all bachlers.
🙏🙏
Love your work, Chef! Keep rocking!
Thank you 🙏
How do you determine the nutrition facts when you mixed it all together ??? That’s where i struggle with meal prepping
It’s put through a nutrition calculator. It’s based on average values from each ingredient and multiplied to create a whole amount
I love pesto chicken! You make it look so easy to prepare! Thanks for another awesome recipe!
Always a pleasure! Glad you love it!
I love how you make plenty so that you have future, easy prepared meals.
In these times of hardships, I wish you would cover your pans - it means less energy is needed.
Also using the oven - you said 12 minutes in oven - so I would turn the oven off after nine minutes - leaving the oven door closed - then I'd open it after thirteen minutes - the chicken would keep cooking and I save 3 minutes of electricity.
Pans I use lids - if I'm boiling something and recipe says 15 minutes, I will turn off the heat after 12 minutes but leave the lid on - the food will continue to cook in the liquid.
I always put two dishes in the microwave when I'm heating food up - place them one on top of the other. Again I'm saving energy, but I'm also making sure the food is cooking all the way through - when you stack you don't get cold centres anymore.
My electricity comes from my Solar 8,5 kWh roof panels. And your's?
Why so finicky?
Just made this one mate. Really good stuff. My chicken come out as good as it ever has 👌
So delicious 😋.. drooling much. Love your recipes!
Thank you so much 😊
Jack, keep making these meal prep videos! That is all
Sure will if everyone keeps enjoying them 😊🙏
I make something similiar but add sundried tomatoes, delicious
Very nice
That knife!!!! *chefs kiss*
I made this today and it was amazing! Thank you so much for your tutorials
Hi chef, great video! What is your opinion on pans with non-stick coating? Heard mixed opinions about how healthy they are while cooking. Which pans do you use and why? Might be an interesting video idea to do as well about your cooking gear where you explain which pans/tools you use for specific ingredients. Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!
Thank you! I rarely ever use non stick and am not a fan. The coating that’s on it won’t allow for any sauces to reduce properly and they don’t create very good sears on meats and veggies. Also, like you said, some can be quite toxic. I use stainless steel with a copper base. It’s one of the best materials to use as well as cast iron. They both retain and distribute heat very well, will last a lifetime if well looked after and you can cook pretty much anything in them 😊
Delicious. Yummy yummy. Thank you Chef.
Anytime! Glad you like it
I just wanted to suggest rounding up or down for converted cooking temperatures. As you can understand, no one attempts to set their oven to 390F, so I feel it would be better just to round up to 400F or round down to 375F to avoid confusion.
I get what you’re saying. If I say that though it will be incorrect cooking temperatures. I’m very precise as this is what’s needed to achieve perfect results. If it’s 400 it will over cook and if it’s 375 it will still be raw. That 390 is perfect. 🙏
I hear you, but Fahrenheit offers more flexibility than Celsius, and you're already rounding anyway since 390F technically converts to 198.889C, and 200c converts to 392F. Western ovens adjust in 25-degree increments, so anything in between is not something we aim for. I assume it's the same for you. Adding 8°F (4°C) is not going to make a drastic difference.
So, although it's not technically precise, 190C is 400F. Of course, when cooking proteins, it's more important to check the internal temperature than it is to rely on precise cooking times.
For the record, I'm not trying to give you a hard time. You are my absolute favorite chef on UA-cam and every recipe of yours that I have cooked has been amazing. 🤌
most ovens are not that accurate anyway
Looks a TOP Dish mate. Many thanks for sharing.
Always a pleasure mate! Take care 🙏
@@ChefJackOvens You too mate
Nice one Chef it looks delicious it’s not a recipe I’ve tried before guess I’ll have to now lol. Thanks Jack.😊
Definitely try it! It’s incredible. 😊😊
Just tried it and wow that was incredible, great job making this recipe 😊
Really enjoying these recipes.
Happy to hear!
You've had your hair cut Jack! Excellent recipe, will do this tomorrow.
Please enjoy
This is on my this week’s meal prep plan😍thanks a lot for sharing!
You are so welcome!

Please do
look lovely and delicious 😋 😍 thanks for sharing
Thank you 🙏
This is pretty good thank you for the recipe
Thank you 🙏
Oh yes! Thanks chef Jack !
Can’t go wrong with a good pasta dish!
Where can I buy your cookbook? 😍 I love every recipe. They add such depth to weekday cooking!
Thank you so much! I don’t have a book just yet but I do have my website 🙏
This looks so good! I don't have much experience but will try this tonight. Any idea what type of pan i should buy for the chicken?
Please enjoy it. It’s super easy and taste so good. I highly recommend stainless steel with a carbon base. You can’t go wrong.
This was absolutely amazing and easy to make!
The chicken and pasta alone are 700 calories a serving. This is more like 1200-1500 calories per dish
Not to mention all the olive oil
Pesto Chicken Pasta is the 🐐
You know it!
Look, the food was truly tasty but when I calculated the calories it came up to 1000 per meal out of 5, and that without even including the added oil from cooking the chicken, please correct me if Im wrong because I just dont see how I miss calculated it.
I like pesto that a good one another one to the collection
This pesto is so good!
I've never eaten basil pesto in pasta or any dish. Maybe I should try it after viewing your recipe...
Definitely worth a try! It’s amazing 😊
Thanks again chef 👩🍳
fabulously done
Thank you 🙏
Chef jack you’re awesome keep up the good work recipes niiiiice man hail hail
Thank you so much 😊
Hi Jack, what pot did you use for searing and baking the chicken? I’m looking to purchase a good pot that can be used on both the stove and in the oven. Thank you for your amazingly delicious recipes!
Hello! I used my essteele per vita sautéuse pan for the chicken. I have a full list of everything I use on my website If you need more info. www.chefjackovens.com
Ah, you did the magic. Good.
Haha I sure did 🤤
Good stuff as always, Jack! Question... Do you rinse or cool off the pasta/noodles with cold water
or is that not necessary?
Thank you 🙏 no, don’t rinse the pasta as you’ll wash the starch off and the pesto will no longer stick to the pasta 😊👌
Can I replace the pine nuts and basil leaves with let’s say spinach and regular peanuts? 😅
Very well done.
Hi! Can you replace the pinenuts by cashew nuts? I’m allergic unfortunately… also for every nut except cashews!!
Love your videos
Hello! You definitely can. I’ve got lots of notes about this stuff in the description 😊
Thanks!!!
Looks so delicious! MVP 🥇
Much appreciated
I just got a food processor for Christmas and this meal will be my first to use it! Doing this for dinner tonight. Can't wait!
thank you. This helped
Happy to help
Yum
🤤🤤🤤
Could you share how you came up with the calculations of 749 calories for each portion? Because when I do some basic calculations I reach approx. 730 kcal ALONE with the amount of olive oil you use in your pesto (125ml=1006kcal/5=201) and the amount of uncooked penne (750gram =2665kcal/5 =531kcal) you use in your recipe. Maybe you used the caloric amount for cooked penne in your calculations instead of the uncooked penne?
I use a nutrition calculator
@@ChefJackOvensthat calculator seems to be wrong sir
Great video and recipe. 😋😋👏👏
Thank you 🙏
Hi if i were to use pre-made basil pesto as it is quite expensive to buy bunch of frsh basil (Korea), how much of basil pesto sauce should i mix in when adding to pasta and chickin?
How long do you think I could put the chicken in the air fryer for instead of the oven?
Nice one as usual Jack 👍
Thank you 🙏
Hi Jack , I love your recipes. Just with the pesto is it ok to freeze it?
Great to hear, thank you. Yes, the pesto is fine to freeze. You may lose a little bit of colour upon thawing but other than that it’s completely fine
Dude! You gotta stop uploading such delicious recipes! I've put on about 10kg since I found your channel 6 months ago 🙄
Haha 😂 glad you’re enjoying them though 😉
Looks great!!!
Thank you 🙏
I really love cooking chicken breast this way. It keeps it juicy and tender!
It’s so juicy!
Honestly reckon I could help you treble the view count with some simple title changes. Great video
I’m always trying new things and always open to suggestions. I used this title for my honey chicken and it gained 1.1m views in 1 month so far. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t but would love to hear your suggestions!
