    Last time around I had my first full day in Finland, and even though the scenery around me was really stunning I still found there was something missing to make this into that epic adventure I was expecting. Gravel. But this third day promised lots of it, as I was preparing to ride through a large wilderness area up in northern Finland. This is bikepacking wild Finland.

    People like you, and Ryan Van Duzer have inspired me to get out and go biking, something I haven't done much of since I was a kid forty years ago. I dont remember the bike seat hurting my ass so much back then though.
    Cheers!

      Than you can also mention that there is a shelter just a few km after the fork at Neiden(N). Before the bridge you go left to Finland, at the end of the climb on your left side was a shelter with toilet and fireplace.

    The skiimobile trails are great with the fatbike, they’re like a highway through the forest. Have to ride them with the lights, though. If we have no darkness at the summer, we only have darkness at the winter. The tracks by the roads are a rarity at the middle of the finland, they might cross the road here and there but mostly they’re middle of the forest. They’re groomed and maintained by the local clubs, too.

    20:00 Maybe I'm mistaken but I think the gentleman rule is actually that those who came earlier will be the first to leave if it gets too full, because assumption is that the last one to arrive had the least rest - but you can leave things in laavu to dry out.

    Hello, my friend! I noticed that the fork on your bike is turned 180 degrees. Why did you change the geometry of your Kona? The large base makes the bike more stable and softer, and shortening it will be tough.

    Hi Mike. Your journey looks amazing so far.
    I am a big city dweller and have a new found love for biking. I don't know the ins and outs about camping and such so I have so many questions that you just seem to skip over:
    Where do you poop? Toilet paper? Shower? Clean clothes? Clean socks? Washing clothes? Brushing teeth?
    Do you need a lock for your bike, surely when you get further south?
    Are you not scared of wildlife? I mean such as bears or wolves.
    Is the "running" water drinkable, you say you "warm it" but do you mean to bring it to boiling for killing off the bacteria?
    Thx Mike
    I wish to do one of these adventures of my own soon.

    • @fnbtt
      @fnbtt Місяць тому +2

      Wildlife you would see in Finnish/Swedish lapland is reindeer,foxes and rabbits. Wolves and bears exist but you won't see them if they hear/see you first as they are quite timid. Water is mostly drinkable as is from a stream (at least in northern parts of the nordics) but many people still boil it or use water purification tablets.
