I remember when I was 12 years old, I went to the library with my father and into the adult fiction section. I saw The Legend of Drizzt, "Exile". The luminescent green glow of the Underdark shown on the cover. Drizzt had both curved blades out glinting deadly in the eerie light. His white hair flowing behind him along with his colorful piwfai as he engaged in battle with the illithids. It drew me in and I became obsessed with Drizzt's journey to Icewindale and beyond. Thanks R.A. Salvatore
R.A went to town on some of these questions, enthustiastic in depth replies that left Mike just nod and trying to look like he was still on track what was being talk about.
I absolutely loved this interview! Drizzt is one of the greatest single heroes of all time! I remember at age 16 working at Pizza Hut learning how to make pizzas, thinking, how would Drizzt do this? 😆. It actually helped me to develop my ability to focus on a particular subject and not let my thoughts wander.
My first high fantasy book started with R A Salvatore. I am from Spain and back in 2008 we didn't have as many translations of fantasy as now so a publisher dropped this monthly collection of Salvatore Demonwars saga books and I couldn't stop reading them, my mind was blown. Then I discovered Drizzt. All Salvatore's early works are extremely entertaining and exciting.

It’s amazing that the Drizzt books haven’t been made into a tv show. Homeland was incredible I read that book four times, such an interesting society he created.
Incredible. Ty guys. Love the Drizzt books. They gave me warrior mentality during high school soccer hell-week, doing suicides in the cold rain. Great memories
Besides the obvious LOTR and Harry Potter I consider RA my introduction to fantasy is a sense. It was the first time I got truly invested in a character and after hearing this interview I understand why now. It’s awesome to see him so caught up on drizzt as a character. With that said jarlaxle is absolutely my favorite character, I just found myself laughing so often from his scenes
Describing action with prose is only a pale imitation of manga. Better to leave such things to artists and record only the outcome of battles with a brief explanation of how the victor prevailed.
Great interview (I’m late) thank you for facilitating. I’ve been reading Drizzt since high school, slowly enough that I’m not caught up yet haha. Watching this made me want to get back to them. :)
This was a great interview! My old friend Insomnia visited at 2 am this morning, so I was able to watch it in it’s entirety before leaving for work. I’m already a Drizzt fan, but I’m definitely going to check out Demon Wars.
As much as i love his novels and have for a long time if i could i would thank him for kingdoms of amalur. Such an amazing game with heavy scottish folk lore influence
Terrific chat with a much admired author. Driest was one of my first reads in fantasy that wasn't yet another LOTR look-alike Spirit panther had me hooked.
So glade to see you featuring Salvatore on your channel. Demon wars is definitely worth it if you enjoy lord of the rings and wheel of time it definitely has some influences and would be interesting to see your thoughts
Wasn’t able to catch this live but what an interview! Great job Mike! Now the hard part for me is deciding which series to read first, Demon Wars or Forgotten Realms.
Currently going through Icewind Dale after having finished The Dark Elf Trilogy. Loving it so far. I'm at the point where the barbarians are about to attack and Drizzt and Bruenor are setting up the ambush, or at least talking about it.
Science fiction book club was fantastic. It was like the first time I could choose books that weren't at the book store. It was the precursor to Amazon, in my thinking.
Dude. The interviewer totally tuned you out entirely on that joke, Bob! 😂😂 (1:06:00) A switcheroo using the wand + 500 ft of fall dmg = reaping what you sow 😂 Also, the "Glad you did your homework first" from the interviewer (who has barely read Salvatore BTW) to the guy who actually DID the homework on the guy interviewing him😅 Priceless
He's a great writer. I loved the Halfling's Gem. If it came out in the early 80s I'm sure Arnold would play Wulfgar (Sortof). Chris Hemsworth is around.
I asked Robert which book i should read first from the Drizzt Legends, he didn't give me a definitive answer so i picked up the very first he wrote, The Crystal Shard, had its flaws but it was a great adventure.
Interesting that RA keeps using the pronunciation of Drizz’t in two ways, “Drizzd” and “Drits”, through each other. And yes I got that! “Wobbah wobbah!” - that was epic
I love this! So much of his personality comes through on this interview. I wish the dude interviewing was a better conversationalist cause I feel like it could have been better.
Someone needs to let Bob make his drizzt movie, give him full creative control. If they made these movies and then ruined it with a weird woke disney style i would literally cry.
AAA Drizzt CGI 3D MOVIE SERIES !!!! ...... C'MON !!! Would CRUSH at the box office !!! HAS to be all CGI to be able to properly "Capture" Salvitore's Masterpiece !!! ... Then ... The VIDEO GAME !!!
How in the world are you so prolific with such great quality!? Why don't you spend a weekend with GRR Martin to help him get over his massive writer's block? If anyone can do it, you could!
A movie has to be done.. CGI like how to train your dragon.. or Japanese animation.. all you need is a voice.. if he's still alive Arnold Schwarzenegger would be wolfgar.. he has the voice for it.. I'm not sure about the rest of them..
This was a great conversation and I can't wait to watch more of your interviews and videos, but damn man you seemed super distracted throughout the entire conversation. It really felt like you just had a conveyor belt of questions and couldn't wait to cycle through them. Please stop trying to be an 'interviewer' and have a conversation with these people.
54:25 - people get preconceived notion of you because of certain statistics that make your people as a whole stand out. Just as people have individual characteristics, they also have collective characteristics and Bob tries to completely ignore the latter. As much as I like him as a writer, he definitely needs better understanding of racial dynamics.
I freaking cringed when he brought about his wife told him "we won't go to the theater or out to eat" because if you test positive we can't fly. Jesus lord people STOP BUYING INTO THE COVID CRAP!! it's FEAR!!
So dissapointed.... Attack of the Clones wasnt hated on by MOST PEOPLE... in fact, the whole theater was reacting like it was phenomenal... you people who lie about other people are the worst... UNSUBSCRIBED
Did you watch the interview fully? He keeps saying things that seem like it, throughout, but then he says that his son had talked with him about people calling him Woke, or something. And he gets on a bit of a soapbox, or at least kind of states his case, about it.@@cheapshot2842
Just finished the interview and I see what you mean. I see you're upset but I'm super happy about. Thanks for letting me know! My partner is actually gonna start reading his books now because of it. Thanks again
Haha, well I hope that wasn't condescension and a gotcha moment, but I'm not really upset, I just think that it probably speaks ill to his character that he has gone off on that way. That said, I should have known someone who didn't detect the wokeness before he spoke about it more specifically would be not detecting it because they didn't detect any jarringness in what he was saying. Anyway, if there wasn't condescension in your response, then I guess I'm glad to have led you to something relevant, but if there was, then that was a strangely nasty gotcha thing. Either way, I guess there's a reaction, lol. Oh, well.@@cheapshot2842
@@mixedmattaphorsOh there wasn't any condescension. I'm always happy when I see a content creator that people think is woke. Tends to mean I'm going to like them. But, as an author, I was curious what lead people to think he was. You were correct in your initial assumption that I hadn't seen (much) of the video when I'd originally commented. By the end, I definitely saw why people think he's "woke". I'm just happy he is the way that people will use the word for him. All that to simply say my thanks is genuine and no trickery was involved.
This interview was fantastic. Thanks for bringing us this gem Mike! Can’t get enough Salvatore!
Our pleasure!
Icewind Dale trilogy was the first fantasy trilogy I read in 1990. Thank you for that, sir.

Such a great interview, Bob is such a humble and great dude. I'm glad you got to talk to him and that you are enjoying the Novels!
Wow! Thank you for this interview! Because of you Mike…I have picked up 9 of his books…starting with the Dark Elf!

wonderful interview. I totally forgot about the Cleric Quintet! I remember loving that a lot in my late teens/early twenties. I should do a re-read
It’s amazing that the Drizzt books haven’t been made into a tv show. Homeland was incredible I read that book four times, such an interesting society he created.
Best video you’ve ever done! Loved the video, love Bob, thank you Mike.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Found homeland in my attic in 94 and it's been my favorite series ever since 🍻
Thanks for the interview. I loved the Drizzt books but I fizzled out around book 20 or so. I’ve got Demon Wars on audio and will bump it up on my TBR.

My favorite author. Thanks for the interview.
This was fantastic. Like many others...his books got me started and I never looked back. Looking forward to read many more. Learned lots
Love it so glad for these books helped me cope threw some hard times
DEMONWARS is a great read. I recommend them to all of you...
Waldenbooks! I spent a lot of time there. We didn't have internet or anything. We had to read book covers and the first few pages.
Salvatore is so good at describing action. This makes me want to dive back into the Drizzt books. Nice interview! 👍
Describing action with prose is only a pale imitation of manga. Better to leave such things to artists and record only the outcome of battles with a brief explanation of how the victor prevailed.
Manga? That’s like comparing apples to oranges. I happen to read both manga and books and I enjoy both in their own way. But hey each to our own. 👍
Man , Salvatore is cool as heck. Loving this Interview!
So glad to watch this! Definitely a bucketlist item. I have to agree...Demonwars is fantastic!
I could have listened to this for hours more! Great conversation!
Bob is a decent guy and is the most responsive famous author I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
