    Thank you for this. I love trifle at Christmas. One idea I got from my mum was to drain the peaches before you start and use the juice from the can mixed in with a little less cold water than this recipe states to use in cooling the jelly.

    This trifle is very similar to way I make it. I use the syrup of the peach to soak the Swiss roll. Red and green jelly. And of course fresh cream and nuts.

      Oh yes I also only use instant pudding and not custard and I cut my sponge cake into small pieces😊

    Traditional way is the best way. Just like my mom and my grandmother made it. Sherry was the secret ingredient.

      Exactly Sherry you’re so the Sponge in it this was the way us English make it not like UA-cam.would put cocktail fruit in the jelly then thick custard after it sets then thick cream put on the top hundred and thousands

    we broke the cake into pieces,(or jam roll pieces) whipped cream, ginger jam pieces, nuts, jelly and custard (homemade), all in layers---the mystery ingredient that gave that special taste ...was...either Hanepoot sweet wine or sherry drizzled over each layer...our family tradition for special days

    I remember when we lived in South Africa, for Sunday lunch dessert, my mother regularly served peaches and that Nestle cream. It was the most delicious dessert. I now live in Australia and I don’t know if that cream is still produced.

    I use the syrup of the peaches or apricot to moist the sponge put jelly first and then fruit on top then custard finish with whipped cream Simple

    Instead of the red soda, we make use of the syrup from peaches to moisten the cake; then top the cake with a thin layer of caramel, followed with home made custard. The top layer is jelly - sprinkled with nuts. Different colours of jelly add to the trifle's festive appearance.

      @ would have just been so much easier dissolving it in a round jug where it can be stirred much easier than it could in a square container, either way works anyway.

    My mother made gelly with hot water while the jelly was melted she put in the sponge with sherry make custard made let it cool ed down and gelly was set she then placed the custard ontop of the gelly shile it set she whisked cream when it all ste before serving shed pour the whiped cream on the curstard and sprinkeled coiord sugar to decorate thats the English way

    We soak the sponge cakw in the jelly to avoid soggy or mushy servings. The next step is to use different jelly flavor with half required water to and mix canned fruit... The next morning we finish it off with layer of custard, cream topped with cherries and wallnuts...

    I find Madeira loaf works better
    I had been using Swiss roll slices for years

    You can soak the sponge with alcohol. Sherry or whiskey. Just like grandma’s. kids one gets double. (Just kidding)😮

    Good gracious, never chop up the jelly. Never put the custard on the sponge. Never use that milk stuff & where is the fruit???

      Maybe you haven’t heard me say that this was my late grandmothers way of making it, next time listen before you comment. Also, not everyone makes trifle at a specific standard, maybe try it before you judge it because our family loves it this way and so have many others after trying it.
      Food is an art so there’s many variations of doing things

      Listen I cannot emphasise this enough, it was my late grandmothers way of doing it and this is how we enjoy it, everyone enjoys food differently so you may make it another way and that’s perfectly fine, I am sharing things the way we do it 👍🏼
