Hi If you are considering a rip cut on a 8x8 timber A bandsaw mill is the way to go. If you have a 16” circular saw, you can do it with 2 rip cuts on opposite sides, but not recommended as it is difficult to match the cuts.
Do you prefer this method over the skilsaw spt? I'm sure it gives a cleaner cut but one pass vs four seems easier unless there is that much of a difference
Hi John The makita with 4 passes makes a nice cut ….. but it’s 4 cuts and 4 flips of the timber. For my 8x8 or larger Timbers with tenons I like using the SPT. If your Timbers are square, you’ll get a square cut with the SPT. When making tenon cuts, I use the SPT for the end cut, then the Makita for the cheek cuts, then the Mafell bandsaw for the tenon side cuts. The end of my tenons, I use 1” quarter round router - So virtually there is no end cut from the SPT visible
Good job. Thanks for sharing that. This will be the first time cutting 8x8 and I dont have anyone to mentor from. You are it!
Thanks again!
Hello Sir, new sub from just up the road in Nova Scotia. Time to binge!
Welcome aboard!
Great video. I have to cut some 6x6 wood. This was very useful. Thanks
That was helpful. I was trying to cut a 4x4; I couldn't get it plumb. Thank you!
Glad to help!
Thanks for the demo! Cutting beams today.
Hope you enjoy it!
Nice cut!
That was useful to know about rolling the wood towards you
I need to cut 8x8 vertically… what would you recommend? Same method?
