Thanks for your video. I am waiting for my my25 ec40 in red. Hopefully it will arrive in a few weeks. Your video makes the waiting a little bit better.
Kristian, the rwd ec40 has a different battery than the awd version starting in MY24. The rwd uses new CATL prismatic cells and the awd uses lg pouch cells. IMO the CATL battery is a better battery with slightly higher energy density and expected longer life. It is why I bought one. I believe that Volvo will transition to the CATL batteries in both versions soon.
Are you sure? I'm actually not sure about cell chemistry differences. Just know there's two different batteri sizes available for the RWD, and this is the extended range, so same size as the twin version. Not sure if there's different chemistry
@@volvo_kristian It is only the extended range RWD version that has the newer CATL batteries in MY24. Chemistry is essentially the same but manufacturer and form factor are different. The newer CATL prismatic cells should out preform the LG pouch cells. Your Volvo contact should be able to verify.
One more thing the Volvo battery engineer stated " Because of the battery pack difference, single-motor versions fast-charge a little quicker. They get from 10-80% in just 28 minutes and reach a peak 200 kw, while dual-motor versions do it in 34 minutes and reach a peak 150 kw.
I expect Volvo does not want to publicize the change as there are a lot of cars ( C40 and EX40 ) in inventory ( in Canada anyway) with the LG pouch cells. RWD 2024 EX40 also have the CATL cells.
I like it a lot … but Volvo is failing on the interiors by emulating Tesla too much (lack of physical buttons/dials, not enough information in instrument panel, no option for all-metal roofs). And we all want to see 800-volt architecture plus optional larger battery packs for long-range driving. It’s hard to justify having a BEV for long road trips unless you can drive a minimum of 485-550 km (300-350 miles) at 130 km/hr on a single charge at outside air temperatures of 0-10 degrees C.
I took a test drive with this car last Thursday. I was happy with how quiet the alarm beeps and boops were while driving. Manageable. I was happy there were quite a few physical buttons still in the cockpit. Thank you. The navigation screen / UI was okay quick (not like Tesla though). Good enough. About the Black Edition: It doesn’t tick any check boxes with me. I’ve owned a black car for 10+ years. I quite tired of trying to keep it looking clean.
Drove an EC40 yesterday and have to say I liked the drive but the old plastic looking dashboard is an absolute dealbreaker for me. The guy designing that should be fired. The cockpit in my wifes Renault Zoë looks more modern than this.
Volvo dashboard looks stylish like Audi e-trons, while Renault looks like just putting a dual-screen monitor setup - like they have put PC with steering wheel. It is not as awful as Hyundai or even some luxury brands (I thin it was merc) but I would take Volvo/Audi interior and dashboard over Renault anytime.
I’m curious to get your opinion about who’s needs the AWD. And, did you know if the overseas delivery programs is still offered for the Canadian customers?
I need the AWD because I'm often driving on snow covered roads, and partly hard packed snow or ice as well. So AWD are a must to get up and around. Live outside the city so the snow builds up rapidly before the trucks are coming to clear it away. With the occasional mountain trip I wouldn't want a car without AWD. And also lately studded tires. But sometimes I or others pick the AWD version just to get access to increased performance 🤣
Hello Kristian thanks for the 1st look at the Black Edition of the new 2025 EC40. It's exactly what i was looking for! Been following your videos for the EX30 that we're still waiting here in Canada. We will get the 2025 models and I've ordered it (twin motors) but now looking at the upcoming EC 40 I'm not sure what would be best. Volvo Canada dealers haven't even received yet the price list for EC 2025 so cant compare the pricing list on EX30 Ultimate twin motor vs the same in the Black edition for the EC 2025... For those with the pricing list is the difference huge? Is the Black Edition more expensive than amother EC 2025 different colors? Thanks and keep up the good work!
@jesuis1837 Great to hear you enjoyed the video. Understand your questioning the EX30. Regarding the price. There's a huge difference there. At least here in Norway we're we have both. The price gap from 30 to 40 with similar spec (twin. Ultimate) are 170.000 NOK.. However it's also a "much" bigger car, and you get more of everything. More tech, better seats, more interior amenities, better range, faster charging +++ In my opinion it's a much better car than the 30. Hence the price
@@volvo_kristian Wow your price difference is way bigger than us! Our EX 30 are overpriced here in Canada by about 10 000$ compare to US Market and because of that i think the value here (sweet spot) is to go for the EC 40 if you have the budget as the difference from the whole enchiladas package on the EX 30 AWD Twins ultra and the EC 40 AWD twins ultimate version is about 5000$ 6000$ max !. Once the price of the EX 30 goes down here (if it goes that way) then the difference between those 2 models will look like what you have in Norway.
I got my C40 in 2022 and if RWD would have been available at that time, I‘d have gone for it. I really don’t like FWD, so I chose the Twin back then. Completely agree, one doesn’t need 408 horse powers. One question: did you test the new digital mirror? The look back is really bad in my C40

@@marliesvd04067 nice to hear 👍
I had to laugh a little at how many times you said EC40 Black Edition but hey, thanks for the video.

@ontrakcontrolsystemsinc.9147 What? That can't be correct. My XC40 that I just sold was a MY24 Twin, and that had a peak of 208kW

Let's see what happens at the next launches. Crossing my fingers
Idk about you but doing a road trip with 3-4 people I can guarantee you one stop every 4 hours is too little.
I’d love to see 800v architecture too. The charging just takes too long.
Not a fan of OS bricking a car but such is the way with EVs

Wish they offered gunmetal grey wheels and logos. Would help make this car pop

2025 onwards all 2020 build AAOS entitle to get a free upgrade for the latest 11.9 screen OS system which might include the wireless ACP.
I absolutely love the interior. Pure class.
I have to go down to Gothenburg to visit the new Volvo world 😊
Highly recommend 😎

Recommend you make a video of a light coloured car so that we can discern what it looks like.
Light colored black edition? 😅 they are all black
No rear wiper is what puts me off and steers me to ex40
@grilnam9945 understandable..

not enough of saying "black edition" in this video! 😅🤣

Can see nothing, the car is just a black blob
